In a tradition formed from Kazue's first meeting with Seiten, all Suigin women hike to the icy forest of the mountain peaks upon beginning their training to meet the owl they will summon. And Ryū happened to meet Fubuki.
The pair became close very quickly. After Ryū’s training in Kusunokizan, she physically traveled back to Konoha with her, spending all of her time not out delivering messages in the shinobi village with Ryū and her eventual family.
PERSONALITY
Meek and shy, Fubuki is very quiet, but affectionate and loyal to her summoner. Lacking confidence when they first met, she too grew considerably after their training…even becoming a bit haughty in her manners as she became older and gained her own form of strength.
APPEARANCE
Fubuki is a white owl, standing approximately 2'6” tall, speckled with black markings, with gold eyes. Her wingspan is 5'3”, and she is outfitted with powerful black talons.
[ Reika’s summon: Tsurara ]
In a tradition formed from Kazue's first meeting with Seiten, all Suigin women hike to the icy forest of the mountain peaks upon beginning their training to meet the owl they will summon. During her journey, Reika met Tsurara.
While up in the peaks, a snowstorm blew in. Though she attempted to use a barrier for protection, Reika quickly found herself exhausted, but was led to safety by a male owl, introducing himself as Tsurara. They bonded during the storm's run, and chose each other as summoner and summonee.
PERSONALITY
Proud, stoic, and devout, Tsurara is staunchly polite, but also holds lofty opinions and standards. He stands for no ill words against his partner, and has maimed offenders for words alone. But he is exceedingly affectionate with Reika, and Ryū during her early years.
APPEARANCE
Unlike Fubuki and Seiten, Tsurara is completely without black markings, a marless white from top to bottom sans for black talons, with the tribe's notable gold eyes. Standing taller than most at nearly three feet, his wingspan is over five feet, though still nowhere nearly the largest of the tribe, with rumors of an owl that stands taller than a man.
[ Kazue’s summon: Seiten ]
In the tallest peaks of the mountain range that is home to Kusunokizan, a tribe of owls resides in an iced-over forest known as Kōri no Mori. During the later years of her training, Kazue took a hike into the snowy peaks as a test of her endurance. While there, she rescued an injured owl, eventually taking him on as a partner and summon as he insisted he repay his debt.
The pair took to traveling together after Kazue's training finished, and after Seiten's debt was repaid by saving her own life, they formed a summoning contract so he might always be at her side when needed. This led to the tradition of all Suigin women taking the same hike to find their summoned owl.
PERSONALITY
Seiten is a young owl when Kazue meets him, full of energy and spirit. But though lighthearted, he is also a fierce fighter, never backing down from a conflict, and taking more than one pair of eyes from Kazue's enemies during their time together.
APPEARANCE
Like most males of his tribe, Seiten is very lightly marked compared to the sooty females, with only a few dustings of black along his shoulders. Otherwise, he was a pure white, with a pair of bright gold eyes. Small for a male, he is only about 2'5" tall, with a wingspan under five feet, but also boasts wicked talons and a sharp beak.
[ Katsumi’s summon: Mibōjin ]
Unlike her siblings, Katsumi held no interest in the creatures of Kōri no Mori, finding none of them suitable to her tastes or skills. Instead, she took to hiding away in a cave, discouraged, only to find it infested with spiders. Within was one the size of a house cat, who caught and ate a snake preparing to bite. Impressed by the creature's stealth and venom, Katsumi asked her - Mibōjin - to become her partner.
Despite her family's protests, the pair formed a contract, and Katsumi took to studying the venom and making unique poisons with it. She also utilizes spider silk to make traps and restrain foes. Since then, the original summon has added her many children to the contract.
PERSONALITY
Quiet and observational, Mibōjin rarely speaks to anyone but her summoner, keeping a low profile and exhibiting few personality traits beyond a bloodlust and motherly nature to her countless offspring.
APPEARANCE
Upon growing fully, Mibōjin is now the size of a carriage, with bright pink, purple, and black markings. Tarantula-like in build, she boasts all eight of her legs and eyes, and is covered in coarse hair that can cut flesh. Her fangs are as long as a man's forearm, and can puncture completely through a human.
[ Tadashi’s summon: Sakushi ]
Though he exhibited his father's kekkei genkai, Tadashi was still a child of the Suigin line, and was thus invited to try and find a summon owl up within the peaks of Kōri no Mori. However, before he could make the attempt properly, he ended up finding an abandoned white tiger kitten.
Too worried about the creature to consider trying to find a summon, Tadashi brought the kitten back to Suigin for help. Confirming his mother had been lost, Suigin suggested taking the kit on as his summon instead, as it still rang true to Kazue's original journey. Tadashi accepted.
PERSONALITY
Though a bit reserved and overly-cautious as a kit, Sakushi has grown into a patient and observational summon, loyal to his summoner and his work. Working foremost to keep Tadashi from harm, Sakushi also helps with stealth takedowns to allow their work to go undetected. When Fu joins the ANBU, he balances between being a swift help for restraining criminals, and also a means of distraction.
APPEARANCE
A soft white littered with black stripes, Sakushi's belly is white, with a stout build and a long tail for balance among the peaks of the mountains. His eyes are a pale grey-blue, with a black nose and broad paws for walking through the snow and ice.
[ Reika II’s summon: Junsui ]
During her time looking for a summon up within Kōri no Mori, Reika became lost. Trying not to panic, she eventually broke down to cry...only to be approached by a white weasel. Not wanting to see the girl upset, he began to frolic to try and calm her down, eventually leading her back to the familiar path...but not before sneaking up through her top to settle around her neck.
Though not an owl as tradition dictated, Suigin agreed to form the contract, though the weasel - Junsui - insisted on staying with Reika full-time like her mother's summon.
PERSONALITY
Carefree, energetic, and a little bit mischievous, Junsui forms a natural pair with his bright and extroverted summoner. Working together with her dance-like taijutsu, the pair slip around their opponents like water, the little weasel serving mostly as a distraction and mild fighter.
APPEARANCE
Pure white save for a black tuft at the tip of his tail, Junsui is long, lithe, and limber. With his thin form, he can fit into almost any nook or cranny. He can usually be found looped around the back of Reika's neck. Long whiskers help him navigate the environment, and sharp teeth and claws can make for daunting weapons. From nose to tail, he's nearly three feet long.
[ Reiji’s summon: Suzume ]
Like his sister, Reiji went up into Kōri no Mori in search of a summon. And like Reika, he also opted for a creature beyond the owl clan: a fox kit named Suzume.
Not as confident as his sister, Reiji ended up separated from her, and instead tried to hide in an abandoned fox den. It was there he found Suzume, an orphan, who helped him find his way back down the mountain.
PERSONALITY
Sly and almost cheeky, Suzume is prideful, but tries to help his summoner overcome his fears and doubts. Beneath his haughty nature is a caring creature, often allowing himself to serve as a makeshift plush for nervous child patients. He vehemently denies enjoying it, but has been caught sleeping protectively over them, and growling at anyone that tries to wake them.
APPEARANCE
Like most creatures of the mountains, Suzume is a pure white with warm gold eyes. His nose is black, with a few tufts of black fur along the insides of his ears. Unlike the beast of legend, however, he only has one tail.
[ Katsumi’s secondary summon: moths ]
A contract found in Konoha's summon library, Katsumi took on the secondary summons as a means to deliver messages, and for transport, with moths ranging from the size of her thumb, to one that can bear her weight. They vary widely in color and specie, and she also uses moth wing scales to help initiate genjutsu.
[ Tadashi’s secondary summon: magpies ]
Like his sister, Tadashi took on a secondary contract: his with a flock of magpies. Used primarily for messages, they can also confuse enemies with their calls and darting flight patterns...as well as help with genjutsu with the markings of their forms and the shine of their feathers.
