Prompts For Your Feels

Kaze often wanted to default to kindness and a light hearted smile if he could. Though he often kept his own counsel, he found a softer gaze got him the results he needed when not in combat. Unfortunately, these words made his expression harden as he rolled them through his mind and considered whatever answer he could give.

Could he help with such a thing? He would certainly try, but it wasn’t so simple as trying.

        “Are you supposed to be something other than who you already are?” He asked, head tilting to the side. “You’ve chosen to follow your heart, despite the consequences that may bring and you’ve fought diligently to stay above it all despite the weight it may pull on you. Isn’t it enough to know you are strong enough to not lie to yourself.”

This gave Robyn pause. She’d been excited to delve into a new strategy book she’d received, but making time for Lucina was a higher priority than her love of reading. Unfortunately, what Lucina had to say made Robyn’s heart clench tight and she sucked in a breath.

       “Would it help, if I said that all I see is what you give me to see?” True, she tried her best to read between the lines and understand a person’s body language, but Lucina was a big a mystery to her as her own memories were at times.

Settling Dust Prompts

Ingrid knew she was too wounded to keep fighting, but she had struggled the entire way to safety. Nikolette was as stubborn as she was, it seemed, but Ingrid felt a nasty taste of steel in her mouth. Not the steel of blood, but the bitterness of defeat and guilt. 

They’d found a safe place, tucked away enough to keep them from view, but what now? They’d also left everyone else behind and Ingrid felt every worn out muscle in her body scream to get back out there. 

        “What if they need us?” She asked, watching in fascination as Nikolette began to bandage her wounded arm. The cut was shallow, but long enough to make her Lance useless.  “They’re strong, but.. but what if-”

She didn’t want to say it. Imagining her closest of friends harmed because she couldn’t keep up was too painful to consider. With every second that passed, she flinched, glancing back towards her cousin with regret deep in her eyes.

      “I don’t think I’m asking for much.” Ingrid was puzzled, looking at Sylvain as she failed to read the expression on his face. Oftentimes he was all smooth smiles and flirty remarks, but this? He seemed more serious than usual. What had she said to spur this on? She couldn’t recall. 

But she had to admit, she didn’t like it. As much as his transgressions towards other women left a foul taste in her mouth, Sylvain was still someone very dear to her. If there was anything she could do to ease his own mind, she’d willing to do it. 

     “Is asking you to stop breaking hearts really that difficult to do? I don’t buy it.  And what is this about what I deserve? Does anyone ever ask me what it is that I want rather than just assume for me? I think not. It’s exhausting.”

She had to resist going further, turning this interlude into a lecture. Ingrid knew she did it too often. Was too hard. Too narrow minded too... so many things. Before she went too far, she gently touched Sylvain’s shoulder, head tilted as she tried to find the truth in his somber gaze.

     “Don’t!” 

There’s more force, more emotion, behind that word than Beles knew she could express. Almost panicked and full of agonizing frustration. She moved quick, hand in the air to signal his silence, stepping closer into Seteth’s space to stare hard into his eyes. 

The faith magic she’d worked so hard to use sung from her fingers without a second thought, reaching out to heal the injury he sustained on her behalf. She would have been fine. She knew it. If he hadn’t been there, if she couldn’t take the attack, one Divine Pulse was all she needed to reverse and prepare for the outcome yet again. 

He didn’t know this. And his reaction, while a nice realization towards how far she could trust their safety with him, was an altogether new set of problems she wasn’t ready to deal with. 

      “Don’t put that on me.” She finally managed after her heal spell dispersed. “To you, it’s a sacrifice to protect someone. To me, it’s an added pressure. An added concern. An added weight to what I’ve already been given before I ever had a choice in the matter.” 

Her banner is what brought many to Claude’s side. Her strength and so-called connection to the Goddess is what gave them religious backing. Beles knew, without a doubt, she was being used and she allowed it. But everyone looked to her. Everyone wanted her guidance. Everyone trusted her to make the right decisions and keep everyone alive. 

       “... don’t think that my life is above your own. Don’t make me have to hold the guilt of your death if I wasn’t strong enough. Don’t do that to me. Don’t do that to Flayn. Please.”

She hoped, that for once, she’d gotten her point across before the words and emotions became too much for her to process and she fell silent yet again. 

        “Take care of yourself, Seteth. I can’t lose you too.”

      “.. I have no doubt of that.” Robyn answered, voice far calmer than she actually was. It was difficult to look him in the eye at that moment, fingers twitching in apprehension inside her sleeves. 

Of course she was safe with Chrom. He’d made it abundantly clear since the time she and her brother had met the Prince. Not only had he given them trust and a place to belong, he’d been more than willing to put his life on the line at any turn for them. He was reckless, but she was grateful. 

Too grateful. 

        “I trust you Chrom. You don’t have to assure me, I already believe it.” Feeling safe and trusting him was easy. That wasn’t the problem. Behind her closed eyes, she remembered the strange dream. The vision she shared with Robin in their sleep, before waking to Chrom’s outstretched hand, greeting them from the dirt where they lay. 

His death. His trust in them. Their betrayal. She couldn’t forget that vision no matter how hard she tried, but she couldn’t find the words to express it to Chrom. Couldn’t risk causing everyone to distrust or throw them out if they knew the truth.

There was a hidden frustration beneath Beles’ blank expression. One that spoke in the tap of her feet while she proceeded down the hall. The sort of frustration that’s more felt than seen. She refused to speak of it. Circumstances as they were made it simple enough for those around to form their own assumptions either way.

Most were accurate. Some less so. But her current ire was not settled on anyone in particular, but over an entire situation that they had zero control over.  

Beleth had disappeared. Off with Edelgard. War had been thrown at their feet, and they were sorely unprepared for the attack coming their way in a matter of days. Were the students prepared? No, of course not. Was her own class ready? She wanted to believe they were more capable than even they knew, but...

      “Claude.” She said the name as if speaking a statement. No question. Nothing. But it was enough to gain his attention while she joined him on the road.  

      “You should be resting or preparing yourself, not staying up this late. What are you doing?”

Her plans to vent in the training grounds were halted due to whatever nagging feeling in the depths of her wanted to ensure he would be ready and prepared before the coming battle. She could handle the exhaustion, the irritation, but her students? 

They deserved some peace, didn’t they?

      “Maybe I’m just not ready to give up, have you considered that?”

She snapped it out before she could even consider it. They’d been surrounded for quite some time, somehow cut off from the rest of the battle, but they’d held their own well enough. Her body was tired: sore and bruised. Ingrid was certain some of the smatters of blood staining her outfit were more than just her enemies, but she couldn’t stop to asses her own damages. 

After all. She was breathing. She was moving. She’d live through whatever they were. And Felix... try as he might, he didn’t look to be faring too much better. (Probably a little less damaged, but... again, she didn’t have time to assess.) Where was her Pegasus when she needed her? The blood pounding in Ingrid’s ears made it hard to remember what had possessed her to dismount in the first place.

We could have been back with the others if I’d only taken Felix onto her with me and flown off.. why did I-

Her legs wobbled, and she looked to the ground, fists clenched tightly against her spear.  “I’m no damsel, Felix. I wont wait to be saved, but I wont stop believing in my comrades either. If you think we’re lost... then-  I’ll believe enough for the both of us.”

She couldn’t protect him. But she could try. And he could... Felix could-
