perfect moment | iwaizumi x fem!reader
fandom: haikyuu
warnings: none, though with the amount of tooth-rotting fluff contained, I can say with utmost certainty that this is not dentist approved
a/n: I’ll probably format this later on, but I wrote this on mobile and quite frankly my bed is too comfortable to leave, so 🤷🏼♀️
I recommend listening to a slow, romantic song while reading this. I wrote it with songs like True Love Ways by Buddy Holly and Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers in mind, but honestly you can pick what you want
Y/n wished the moment could last forever, just the two of time - alone. Forever.
It was like something out of a movie. The moon shone brightly in the starry sky, reflecting perfectly off the calm waters. It was as if the heavens witnessed their bliss and wanted nothing more than to shine a spotlight on it.
A small smile graced y/n’s lips as she gazed up at his lounging figure, trying desperately to commit this picture to memory so she could replay it whenever she wanted.
It was their anniversary, and their original plans had been ruined. The romantic candlelit dinner they had both worked to achieve ended in complete disaster, but Iwaizumi Hajime wasn’t about to let a small kitchen fire and a badly burned dinner ruin their night.
He told y/n as much, grabbing the keys and grabbing her hand, dragging her out of their shared apartment before either could truly assess the damage.
They had picked up some food to eat along the way and settled in at their favorite spot in a nearby park.
Iwaizumi was broken out of his blissful haze when a small giggle came from his girlfriend, and he looked down at her. He could see the cogs turning in her head and knew he had to proceed with a little caution.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
“It’s.. it’s nothing,” she insisted, but of course he wasn’t buying it, a single raised eyebrow evidence enough. “Just a stupid idea..”
He kept staring at her, knowing his silence would get her to talk more than his words ever could. Y/N sat up, her head no longer resting on his toned chest, and turned to face him.
“I want to..” she broke within seconds, and he could see the blush creeping on her face. “I want to dance with you.”
Now, it was his turn to laugh.
“H-hey! Don’t laugh at me!” she said, an irritated look gracing her scarlet red face.
“Sorry, it was..” Iwaizumi said, calming down. “It was just unexpected.”
She let out a huff of irritation and crossed her arms, turning away from him.
“Hey, don’t get like that.” He chided, softly chuckling.
She was too focused at her annoyance that she didn’t notice he had stood up until he held his hand out for her to take.
Y/n eyed it for a moment. “Do you want to dance or what?” he asked, and it was at that moment she realized he’d even turned on one of her favorite slow songs to act as a backdrop.
She took his hand, her anger melting as he pulled her in to a close embrace, the two of them beginning to sway gently to the music.
“I can never figure you out,” Iwaizumi suddenly admitted, and she looked up to see his intense gaze focused on only her, as if nothing else existed. “I love you.”
Her (e/c) eyes widened for a moment, speechless at his admission before he leaned in, capturing her lips in a soft kiss.
Once their lips parted, her eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him, a smile more beautiful than any he had ever seen before now gracing her delicate features. “I love you, too.”
The world ceased to exist beyond the two of them in that moment, every worry seeming inconsequential and every problem surmountable.
A perfect moment borne out of a spontaneous wish to salvage what was left of their ruined plans.
