here’s the thing about the merthur/patrochilles parallels: they line up perfectly for almost the entirety of bbc merlin. arthur is the golden boy, the one everyone sees as the hero. merlin is the shadow keeping arthur alive, the hidden lifeline, trading pieces of himself to bend fate just enough. achilles/patroclus the same deal.
BUT THEN: arthur dies first. he becomes like patroclus, waiting for achilles in the afterlife. but at least patroclus got to wait knowing achilles would eventually return. merlin’s immortality makes that impossible for them. merlin is still here, arthur isn’t, and unlike patroclus, he’ll never get that reunion. there’s no eventual closure, no resolution, just endless waiting. for both of them.
Went to the zoo with @tracle0!!!!!!!! We saw many animals but these are the best pictures I was able to take :)! In order-- bearded emperor tamarin, meerkat, dwarf mongoose, sand cat, La Plata three-plated armadillo, indigo bunting, black-throated green warbler, a male ruddy quail-dove, a female bufflehead, and a rock hyrax! I do have a more flattering picture of the rock hyrax, but this is objectively the best.
