āYou were [...] raised by a bunch of teenagers with a penchant for sugar and artificially flavored drinks.āĀ The Phoenix Witch (to Girl) about the Danger Crew (True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, vol 5)
In 2012, fires devastated the country. In the aftermath, Better Living Industries (mission statement here) rose with the solution- they would protect the good people of Battery City, and help rebuild their lives. Through medication and relaxing music, BL/Ind would provide for the citizens, and handle all of the dirty work. They promise a clean city, a safe home, a conducive environment for young and old alikeāand all they ask in return is a small monetary value and the citizensā blind faith. Many are willing to fall into the pattern, much preferring safety and security over the desertās heat.
Ā But then there are those who refuseāthose who stand up against what they view as tyranny. BL/Ind reprograms those who wonāt bend to their rules- and thus the Analog Wars begin. The rebels- groups of teens and adults alike- are called Killjoys, and they refuse to be caught under the heel of Better Living Industries. Many of them are caughtāprisoners of war, meant to be reprogrammed. When that fails, the former Killjoys are terminated.
Ā Those who survive the wars, those who manage to elude BL/Ind escape into the unforgiving desert terrain, taking up a life of freedom. Among those are the teenaged Danger Crew, consisting of Party Poison and his brother Kobra Kid, Jet Star, and Fun Ghoul. In the sands, they fall into roles to keep themselves alive, focusing on survival, and following Partyās lead- and belief- that Girl, the daughter of one of the other rebels- will save them all.
Ā California 2019. The Danger Crew takes refuse in a diner out in the zones- four teenaged boys and the Girl that will save the future.
