Unlike the Imperial family and White Kingdom, the Black Kingdom does not have an established royal family. A newer kingdom, they separated from the White Kingdom after much conflict about twenty-five years ago under the influence of Ghetsis. They tend to elect their leader based on "signs", as they believe that the ideal king would present themselves to them. Because of this, the kingdom has gone on without a monarch for three years, with the royal advisers overseeing duties in the absence of royalty. N was found in the nearby forests, and was thought to be the sign the kingdom was looking for. 

Technically, there is no line for the crown.

Unova is an empire. The protags and rivals live in the White Kingdom, protected by Reshiram, while Team Plasma is protected by Zekrom. Kyurem sleeps in the Giant Chasm.

The emperor oversees the two kingdoms to keep the peace. Originally, his grandson, Benga, is first-in-line for his title, but when he relinquishes his rights--preferring a free life to roam the lands--the second person in line is Iris, who is the Dragon Village leader training under Lord Drayden's care.

Turns out, the legends of the twin brothers and the king were true, and Hilda and Rosa are descendants of this royal line. They are aligned with the older brother who sought out for Truth. Those who agreed with the younger brother and his "Ideals" separated into their own kingdom. 

Hilda is the heir to the White Kingdom's throne, with Rosa second in line. Hilbert, Nate, Cheren, Bianca, and Hugh’s parents are of nobility. Cheren is head knight, Belle is the daughter of a count, and Hugh is a squire, aiming to become a knight.

Cheren, Hilda, and Hilbert are members of the Order of Truth, a group of knights that have been found worthy by the Swords of Justice. Eventually Hyuu joins as well and is realized as a knight.

N is the King of the Black Kingdom, raised for the position ever since he was found as an orphan, though when he doesn’t do as his adopted father and advisor says, he relinquishes his crown. Ghetsis, who says that he knows of the ways of the younger brother and his ideals, insists that pokemon and humans are not meant to live together in harmony. In actuality, he simply wants to destroy the white kingdom and rule the empire.

No one has tamed the Kami Trio, though Black is graced with their appearances. Meloletta is elusive as well, but graces White with her appearance. Genesect is extinct at this time due to the technology not being available to revive it.
