As for tips, i don’t really know what tips to give. I’m not a professional 😭 and im still learning too. Just starting is one though ! Like, you’ll get better the more you write. And, whilst it may seem daunting to post for the first time, readers aren’t looking for anything perfect. It’s just fanfiction ! Whenever I’m reading something, I’m not nitpicking at everything 😭. I feel we’re all pretty easy to please.

Also, I feel like if you already read books, you’ll just sort of know what to do. Reading lots of books as a child always helped me to do better than other kids in my class whenever we had to do creative writing bc they just refused to read and that’s how you naturally pick it up and learn vocabulary and how stories are structured. And everyone here’s a reader so! Just think about whatever you usually like in books and fics, what tropes and plots and write it too !

For me, characters make plot. All my favourite media is less to do with plot and more to do with well written characters and their relationships with other characters. My older sister is an english tutor and sometimes I’m in the same room when she’s doing her online classes about creative writing so her advice subconsciously seeps into my brain bc I hear it all the time 😭 But she always says first and foremost, thinking about what your character wants. Giving your mcs personalities and something they desire and want, it could be something really minuscule or big and it probably changes towards the end, but giving them something they want at the start is always good. Adding obstacles in the way of this is always good too.

Also, inner monologues of characters are great too, explaining and showing how they feel and how they react to what someone said or an event. And whilst it’s basic things you learn in primary school, it’s easy to forget, but the 5 senses, really are the best ways to describe things in writing. The ‘show, don’t tell’ advice does work too

Also having more words doesn’t mean a higher quality work ! And you shouldn’t feel bad if your fic is short ! Honestly, it’s always the people that think writing is just flowery prose and fancy metaphors and complex sentences and trying to show off that just gets lost and cluttered and doesn’t work 😭 sometimes my sister shows me the creative writing works of her students and some of them will have lovely vocabulary but it’s just a whole lot of yap that doesn’t make much sense or have much purpose and they end up getting lower than students whose writing were a bit more simple and they’re confused why they do.

Also just searching writing tips on tumblr always gives great results, they’re so helpful

The Easter weekend 1963 we played one of the Rhythm and Blues Marathons at the Cavern. The marathons would start in the middle of the afternoon, some nished around midnight, and others went right through to the following morning. The place was always really chocka. They tended to be on holiday weekends, so people weren’t having to rush to get back to work. I was wearing a long corduroy coat I’d got in France and Paul came up to me and said, ‘Wow, that coat’s amazing. Where did you get it?’ Eppy was down there, and he said, ‘Come and look at this Brian.’ They were wearing their white shirts and blue velvet waistcoats instead of the jeans and leather jackets. When they went on, they were just amazing, so far ahead with their ideas. We’d sometimes mix it up a bit, different members of different groups, and we always had to share the same gear for the marathons. We played the nal night the Beatles played the Cavern as well. It was another holiday weekend in August. They were getting big by then and the place was heaving. It was sohot in there that the condensation was running down the walls. They had to stop the show a couple of times to mop up the oor of the stage and they wouldn’t let us plug in our ampli ers in. There were far too many people in there and it was complete chaos.
