Child labour is defined as work that is mentally and physically harmful for children. It interferes with their opportunity of attending school and getting education. Child labour is commonly practised in poor countries like India where people send their children to work under hard circumstances and make ends meet.

When child work like adults, it deprives of their childhood. Very often they cannot attend regular school. Child labour is fundamentally different from casual work done by children, like guarding other children or helping here and there. Child labour is banned in most countries but in India, we often see minor boys and girls working in tea stalls, restaurants, huge brick factories, carpet making factories, cracker making factories. Although our government has imposed a ban on child labour, population growth and poverty remained the main hindrance to curb child labour. If children work as labours, they lack physical growth and development, inappropriate development of mind, socially and intellectually. As the child cannot attend regular school, they become socially dangerous and harmful citizens of the country. Crimes become a part of their life due to lack of proper education.
