PART OF YOUR WORLD ,

“  the closest thing i had t’ swimmin’ wit’ the dolphins was my trainin’ for the royal marines.   they taught us t’ hold our breath underwater,   so i stared at the dolphin decoration inside the pool.  “ 

she   couldn’t   help   but   laugh   -   a   bright   expression   across   her   face   .    ❛   well   -   maybe   SOME   time   i’ll   have   to   let   you   swim   with   REAL   dolphins   .   ❜   she   was   still   laughing   ;   though   it   was   slowly   fading   out   .

bright eyes slightly widen at the unexpected gesture. too long had passed since she had left a life empty of reciprocate gentleness behind. nonetheless sweet gestures of sincere warmness such as this still ignite a spark of surprise within. 

slowly her muscles start to loosen. a little of the tension dissolving into this friendly welcome. she stands before a queen like herself, with child like herself- another happy surprise - , worried about her husband and her people, much like herself. rosy lips spread gracefully. the sweetest of smiles an offer of gratitude. “you must be your royal highness. it’s a great pleasure to meet you too despite the unfortunate circumstances.” - shadows of gloom sneak through the corner of her eyes. faint brush of sadness she is quick to remove from sight.

“you can call me ella ! i see we already have a lot in commom.” - gentle eyes full of laughter fall upon the other’s growing belly, hands protectively laid upon her own. “how far gone are you?” 

❛   please   ,   call   me   ariel   !   ❜   the    bright   smile   remained   ,   though   she    pulled   away   from   the   embrace   with   a   light   chuckle   .   it   was   nice   to   have   someone   else   around   ,   a   WOMAN   companion   ,   someone   she   could   talk   too   and   whom    understand   her   troubles   .   with   a   kingdom   on   the   brink   of   war   and   the   queen   HEAVILY   pregnant   ,   ariel   felt   very   isolated   with   her   feelings   ,   unable   to   even   express   them   to   her   own   husband   .

she   looked   down   at   her   growing   bump   ,   light   fingers   playing   with   the   fabric   that   was   stretched   around   it   .   part   of   ariel   was   TERRIFIED   to   bring   a   child   into   the   world   whilst   the   kingdom   was    in   great   danger   ;   but   another   part   just   wanted   to   hold   her   child   ,   close   to   her   chest   and   promise   them   THE   WORLD   .

❛  I wanna be good, life’s just not letting me.  ❜   Probably the lamest excuse he’s ever given, and the sheer sarcasm dripping from his tongue doesn’t help his case either. 

ariel   lifted   an   eyebrow   at   his   words   ;   she   almost   scoffed   at   him   .   he   may   be   the   son   of   her   DEAR   FRIEND   snow   white   ,   but   that   didn’t   mean   ariel   did   not   WORRY   about   him   and   the   life   he   was   living   .   ❛   that   may   be   one   of   the   worst   excuses   i’ve   ever   heard   finn   .   ❜

Jay had been in Auradon for a while. And now that he was in his junior year, he’d finally come to a decision. He’d never known how to swim growing up on the Isle – besides, the waterfront had always been Uma’s territory, and that of Harry and their wharf rats. He’d always been wary of deep bodies of water. After coming to Auradon, he’d learned nearly all the hero kids knew how to swim – and he’d felt way too embarrassed to admit he couldn’t. 

But after thriving here for so long, and growing in confidence (not merely cockiness) in his abilities, finally he decided he wanted to know how to swim. He felt comfortable enough, or at least ready, to seek out lessons – but he still felt just slightly too embarrassed to ask someone he knew. It turned out, however, that the one person who taught swim lessons at Auradon Prep was someone he’d never met – in addition to being an expert at the sport. Who better to teach swimming than a mermaid?

Still, he was a little nervous as he approached her. “Um, hi,” he said, fidgeting a little, but trying to keep a casual composure. “I hear you give swimming lessons?” he asked. 

wrapping   another   class   with   her   students   that   were   hopeful   to   peruse   a   career   or   have   more   skills   in   AQUATIC   BIOLOGY   ,   gave   ariel   enough   time   to   clean   up   the   mess   that   was   left   behind   ,   pens   and   papers   scattered   across   the   class   ,   erasers   and   misplaced   items   that   she’d   save   for   students   to   return   to   them   .   hearing   a   voice   coming   from    behind   her   ,   ariel   quickly   turned   ,   with   a   warm   smile   on   her   face   -   she   had   always   held   a   SOFT   SPOT   for   the   isle  kids   and   had   really   hoped   they   would   join   some   of   her   lessons   .   ❛   i   do   ,   why   do   you   ask   ?   ❜   

yes   ,   she   gave   swimming   lessons   ,   generally   to   the   younger   children   ,   most   of   the   older   kids   knew   how   to   swim   by   now   .   but   he   was   from   the   ISLE   and   everything   was   different   there   .   he   must   not   know   how   -   and   it   made   ariel’s   heart   MELT   in   her   chest   .

          “WHAT KIND OF A FISH–?!”

          IT HAD BEEN ONE OF THOSE DAYS where LeFou had some time to himself. Gaston opted to go on a solo hunting mission, much to LeFou’s relief, and he was free to explore the area outside of the forest– the valley and the river running through it, specifically. LeFou had stopped by for a drink before heading to the orchard as he always did, when he spotted– a half-girl, half fish? What in the world?

          WHATEVER SHE– WHATEVER IT WAS, it frightened him enough for him to fall into the river head-first. Not knowing how to swim, LeFou was left struggling and gasping for air as he started to sink.

ariel   let   out   a   gasp   ,   not   expecting   to   hear   a   voice   ,   not   even   see   anyone   ,   quickly   she   turned   ,   just   as   the   figure   that   CAUGHT   her   fell   into   the   river   .   and   without   even   thinking   ,   or   even   hesitating   ,   ariel   dives   back   under   ;   pushing   her   tail   through   the   water   towards   him   ,   carefully   wrapping   an   arm   around   him   ,   puling   him   up  to   the   surface   .

 “   my sweet grand daughter.   ”   currents  ripple  between  them  and  she  strokes  the  younger’s  hair  gently.    she  hums  softly , using  the  same  voice  that  calms  her  husband’s  hurricane  of  a  temper , lulling  tsunamis  back  into  riptides.  “  i  know  my  son  can be ,  brute .   he  is  much  like  his  father , toughened  by  the  sea.  however , he  is  not  wrong , my  little  siren.    the  humans  fear  what  they  do  not  understand , and  i’m  afraid  it  will  not  be  what  you  think.  ”    her  regal  fingers  come  to  cusp  the  other’s  chin , and  she  spreads  her  lips  into  a  wide  smile ,  “  return   with  me  to  the  festivities.   if  you  still  wish  to  go  to  see  the  surface  tomorrow , we  will  go  together.   ”  

❛   but   grandmother   ...   ❜   ariel   spoke   up   ,   lifting   her   head   when   the   other   gently   touches   her   chin   ,   her   heart   still   HURT   after   the   argument   with   her   father   ,   his   demands   that   ariel   stopped   her   curiosity   with   the   human   world   above   ;   to   keep   her   head   UNDER   THE   SEA   .   her   bottom   lip   pushed   out   ,   a   lump   was   growing   in   her   throat   and   she   felt   as   if   she   was   going   to   break   and   the   tears   were   going   to   ESCAPE   .    ❛   he   doesn’t   understand   ...   he   doesn’t   WANT   to   understand   ...   ❜
