So the heatwave affecting India right now is insane. For my fellow fahrenheit folks out there, 60°C (the white areas) is 140°F.
The highest recorded temperature in Death Valley was 134°F.

ICE came in two SUVs to try and grab a pregnant mother who was picking her other child up from a west Oakland (like three miles from my house) elementary school yesterday afternoon. Neighbors and other community members immediately boxed the ICE vehicles in with their own cars, surrounded the âofficers,â and harassed them until they left (without their target). This is the only kind of response thatâs acceptable from anyone witnessing this shit, and as Oakland Councilwoman Caroll Fife said after the incident, âthere were too many white people around for them [ICE] to stick around.â
Fellow white people: if youâre able, put your bodies/vehicles/voices in between these kidnappers and their targets, ESPECIALLY if you look ârespectableâ (eg soccer mom/dad, business attire etc). Theyâre much, much less likely to engage violently with individuals and crowds who look like ppl they respect/view as human (white/white passing) so use their prejudice to your advantage.
Also: Karen the FUCK outta them. Eg. âI want to see badges and identification containing your full name and title, I want the names and contact information of your direct supervisors, I want to see a warrant signed by a judge that includes the full legal name of the individual you are attempting to detain, and I want to see these items now.â Speak loudly but as calmly and firmly as possible, donât touch them but stay in between them and whoever theyâre trying to grab if possible. Repeat.
Also, if you are an employee of whatever location ICE is entering to get somebody, you can do the following:
- Straight up refuse them entry. Not all workplaces will allow you to do this (e.g. I work in a public library and can't do that) but if you are on private property you can straight up tell them to GTFO or get trespassed by the cops.
- Announce their presence over the PA system. Say "Will the ICE agents who just entered the building please come to [your department] immediately?" and anyone else in the building is going to be made aware that ICE is here and that they're likely to be headed towards wherever you asked them to go, giving them time to escape if necessary.
- Be strict about weapons policies. If your workplace only allows LEOs to carry weapons, ask to see their badges, and ask to copy down their badge numbers and names, too. Take your time doing this, waste their time with as much bullshit red tape as you can muster.
- Be VERY strict about harassment policies, and make it clear to the agents that you will not tolerate them harassing or detaining patrons of your establishment unless they show you a warrant signed by a judge. If they have one, ask to photocopy it "for your records," again making sure to waste as much of their time as possible. Let them know that you will call the cops if they attempt to apprehend anyone without a warrant, and follow through on that if they try it. Tell them it's "policy" if they object. (It doesn't matter if it's actually policy, you can just lie to these assholes.)
- If you manage to repel them from the building, they might try to hang around the parking lot to snatch people as they exit. Make it clear to them that "loitering" is not permitted and they have to vacate the premises if they are not there for legitimate purposes.
and the homeless
I worked mall security - if possible, call security when you ask for badge info, photo copies, etc. It slows the process down, but it sounds like a reasonable thing Management may have instructed you to do.
If they go for a kid, call a Code Adam. Lock the house down. Get the cops called. In my limited experience, if someone calls a Code Adam - local news pick that up on their radios set to the channel local police use, and they tend to show up with (or ahead of) the police.
If you can do this, set off the Theft Alarm when the ICE come in (if you can't stop them, or if they ignore your attenpts). This makes people look up, and they will see what is going on up front, but it will make it harder for the ICE agents to communicate with each other, and nearly impossible to sneak up on their targets.
Film them. Stream it live.

Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind
I get really frustrated with the people who treat hEDS as the "causes everything disorder" because it really doesn't and this mentality leads to other diagnoses being missed.
hEDS itself actually has a very narrow range of symptoms. the majority of the symptoms people ascribe to hEDS are either entirely unconnected or come from hEDS comorbidities (which are not particularly well understood- we know they're there but we don't have a good grasp on why they're there)
hEDS does not cause allergic reactions, MCAS does. many people with hEDS have MCAS but not all people with hEDS have MCAS and not all people with MCAS have hEDS.
hEDS symptoms primarily have to do with direct impact on collagen causing things like joint instability and prolapses. hEDS comorbidities cover a broader range but even then people ascribe some conditions to hEDS without a whole lot of research backing it up.
it's more harmful than just pedantics. sometimes people miss more dangerous disorders like lupus because "well, hEDS can cause inflammation from joint damage and arthritis from repeat injuries." this way of thinking has likely killed people.
so, no, hEDS does not cause "everything." hEDS has a lot of comorbidities that still don't cover "everything." if your symptom isn't neatly explained by a well respected connection to hEDS or a comorbidity then seek medical advice about it because something else may be going on.
i think we should always take predominant sexes and races for psychiatric disabilities into question.
are men really more likely to be antisocial or narcissistic, or are women just overlooked because ASPD/NPD are seen as too "aggressive" for them?
are women really more likely to be borderline or histrionic, or are they just seen as so "hysterical" that they have to be feminine?
are black people more likely to have schizophrenia or ODD, or are labels of "psychosis" and "defiance" simply used to further dismiss, oppress, and imprison BIPOC?
are white people more likely to have autism and ADHD, or are doctors just more willing to accept that white children are disabled and not just "bad?"
oppressive biases are everywhere in psychiatry. never take psychiatric demographics at face value.
When I was diagnosed at age sixteen, after having one period in the eighth grade and then never again till a medically induced one my junior year of high school - my uterine lining measured in centimeters because it was so thick, my mother turned to me in the car. She was upset. Literal tears in her eyes. And she told me her friend had PCOS, but was still able to have kids. That this was still a possibility for me if I did injections and fertility treatments, etc. My mom had never asked me if I wanted kids, she just assumed.
My first conversation about PCOS with my new endocrine/OBGYN was about weight management and how that could improve my fertility when I eventually wanted kids. It wasn't asked what my goals were for my health or if I wanted kids, just assumed.
I was a hormonal, depressed mess. I hated my body. My body dysmorphia was so bad that I cloistered myself away from so much. I wore hoodies and jeans in the 90°F, 80% humidity summers. This was considered fine. I was given metformin and birth control pills and told this was all that could be done. That PCOS wouldn't affect my life until I wanted to be pregnant. I wasn't asked if I wanted to be pregnant, just assumed.
I don't know how many PCOS groups I joined on my early 20s hoping to find community and commonality for body dysmorphia and symptom management, only to be bombarded with fertility treatments and tips and 'inspirational conception' anecdotes. They never asked if I was attempting to conceive, just assumed.
It's a problem. It's been a problem. And thank god I learned to speak up and find medical professionals that would help me with *MY* goals. I shouldn't have had to, someone should have recognized the needs of that sixteen y.o. and protected her, but I can only hope the conversation changes as awareness increases.
House drugged that coffee btw

My friend really changed once she became a vegetarianÂ

Gonna chill out the rest of May and then change my entire life in June. Possibly July if that doesn't work out. Certainly no later than September or October.
Some rando: You should think about stopping your prescription
Me: My pills make me not want to die tho
They: You shouldnât want to die, thatâs not normal
Me: Yeah thatâs why Iâm taking my pills
Again: But you arenât the *real* you when youâre on your pills
Me: Iâm the alive version of me
An actual doctor, once: âRelying On A Chemical Crutch For A Hormonal Imbalance Denies The Fortitude Of The Human Soulâ
Me: Cool so like Iâm agnostic
They: âBut you might be on pills the rest of your life!â
Me: âSo?â
Good! That means that I have a ârest ofâ my life to continue living!
Thanks to the pills.
Meanwhile, no person ever: âYou should think about giving up your insulin/antiretrovirals/beta blockers/anti-rejection drugs/prosthetic legs/daily multivitamin, because using those your whole life is bad for some reasonâ
Oh no, they do that too.
I have a kidney transplant. A woman once told me she didnât believe in organ transplants and that people should just die when theyâre meant to.Â
Sounds like a great set-up for a murder
People who are fully healthy, fit and neurotypical seem to think they are that way because theyâre doing something right that the rest of us havenât thought of, and not just because they got lucky
Speaking of the luck of the non-disabledâŚI once terrorized a Karen who was using me to teach her entitled kid that disabled people are Other and should not be treated with respect. I told her (truthfully) that until I was twenty-eight, I wasnât visibly disabled. Then a defective chromosome that I hadnât known about kicked in. So my luck ran out. But until then, I had been normalâjustâŚlikeâŚher.Â
The sheer terror on her face as the concept of âYou mean Iâve just been lucky so far?â seeped into her brain was a thing of beauty.
