Can a woman who is masculine and not revealing skin in public settings not date a man? It was her guise as a man that caused a sexuality crisis for another male character. Will it be an affront to cishet men’s masculinity if they date a girl that’s often mistaken for a boy? ‘Are traps not gay’ as the joke goes, but heterosexual bifauxnen are? Ouran High School Host Club, for its many flaws, depicted a gender ambivalent (one could even say nonbinary or genderfluid) female character who dates a man (one who is far from a paragon of masculinity) much better - that is saying something, considering Haruhi is also forcibly feminized and is treated with misogyny.

For the sake of debate, let’s say Naoto is a trans man. After the defeat of his childish Shadow that wants a gender affirming mastectomy, there’s several gags about his breasts being the largest of the group. The game thinks that Naoto living as a man (regardless of the internalized misogyny message of thinking they can’t be a woman in a male dominated workforce, because any woman in the 90’s would not have cross dressed and lived full time as a man for years just for a job, I know this because my mother was a career driven woman who dealt with misogyny in a male dominated workplace, wanted to be respected and taken seriously and refused to wear skirts because of it) is a psychological distortion that needs to be corrected. And once it’s corrected, they will be pressured into behaving like a traditional woman, because being a masculine woman comfortable with their womanhood wasn’t acceptable enough.

The only way you can initiate romance with Naoto is if you tell him you’re glad he’s a girl when he verbalizes his wishes to be a man, and he will make his voice higher and will wear girly clothes for you - this is so common among trans men who date cis men, that an abusive cis man forcibly feminizing/detransitioning a trans man or a trans man feminizing/detransitioning himself to date a cis man is a running joke within the trans community. He says as much on the Valentines date that he’d be willing to change for the player.

This all rings true for many trans men that felt pressured to detransition from family, friends or community. The irony of the Shadow being visually and in personality childish because of the insistence of wanting to become an adult man, when this is just Transandrophobia 101.

Naoto not only accepts her female sex and her womanhood by literally saying IWNBAM, but can be forced by the player to accept traditional femininity - and will do so in the epilogue anyways, because being a masculine woman secure in her sexuality, her womanhood and her career was out of the question as well.

In P3, every guy commits a sex crime against the girls via the hot spring except for Ken and Shinji, simply because they were not present. But they had plenty of other opportunity to do some misogyny and they did not, so congrats to them. Still, I only count Ken because Shinji can't exactly be called a 'survivor'. Atlus really said there can only be one dude who is decent and lives.

In P4, every guy harasses the girls at some point except Kanji who minds his own business when he has a crush. Good for him.

In P5, every male phantom thief harasses, ogles at, or coerces the girls into some degree of nudity except for Akechi. It's frying me how there's a literal man versus bear situation going on in the Phantom Thieves. Yeah let's make the assassin the only boy who isn't sexist, why not. He might kill you but he won't assault you. If anything, his hit list skews heavily male, so women are statistically safer with him than men are, and three of his confirmed kills were canonically sexist (Kobayakawa, SIU director, Okumura). The decision to make him exclusively obsessed with Joker spared him from the misogyny beam. It's crazy how P5 would have ZERO surviving non-misogynist male party members if not for Royal and the True Ending.

Between Shinji and Akechi, you have a higher chance of dying if you're NOT sexist in a persona game. Welcome to Atlus, where boys who treat women like normal people are narratively punished more than the ones who harass them. The jokes write themselves.
