   but that’s not the case here. in fact, the reason behind these scathing words was because hilda had beaten him in chess for the fifth time in a row. he’s got a hand running through his hair, his voice full of both frustration and confusion. “ you don’t even like chess! you don’t even play it! how are you so good at this!? ”

   claude didn’t consider himself to be easily startled--he will always deny, deny, and deny, no matter how many times hilda says otherwise--but he figured he couldn’t wiggle his way out of this one, since he screeched when he turned around and saw vincent behind him.

   after collecting himself, his hand clutching his chest, he says in between gasps, “ oh my gods, vincent, give a guy some kind of warning next time! i feel like i just died of fright in another life! ”
