In fact he has multiple of each starter (the three starters he battled the protag with first weren't his main three either; in fact, they were the offspring of each starter) as well as many other Pokemon. He also has a Gardevoir named Cordelia, an Absol named Henry, and a Lucario named Frederick. Though not used as often as the Kanto starters, he loves them equally and spends a lot of time talking to them, cooking them food, and playing with them.
