I went to an early showing of Fire and Ash a couple of days ago and I needed some time to process.
Spoilers below vvv
The franchise in general has hit me hard with the destruction of hometree in the first movie, the death of Neteyam and the whaling scene in the second, and the events of Frontiers of Pandora. I was not expecting to be in shock after the third one. I think I was silent for at least fifteen minutes.
I knew the Ash were going to be brutal and cruel but wow. I think they were done well and I liked their designs. I also really liked Varang’s character and how she is the opposite of Kiri and Neytiri. I wish we saw more of her backstory in the movie.
There were only a few things I wasn’t the biggest fan of in the movie. The kiss between Kiri and Spider was a bit weird to me. Mostly because Kiri has referred to him as her brother and they share the same adoptive father. I also didn’t like how Ronal’s death wasn’t talked about at all after it happened. I was at least expecting to see her family in mourning paint at the end.
The scenes that hit me the most were probably the opening scene where Neteyam told Lo’ak it wasn’t his fault, Lo’ak su!cide attempt, the final member of Payakan’s clan, Jake almost killing Spider, Ronal’s death, and the final scene. I cried a lot during this movie.
I’m curious to see where they go next with the franchise. I hope that Neytiri continues working through her trauma and accepting Spider, Jake leans more towards Na’vi ways, Neytiri becomes almost like an aunt to Ronal’s baby, and that we get to see Tsireya as tsahìk.
I heard that the series eventually goes to Earth and I think that would be really cool. Maybe Kiri with her Eywa powers could help plant the seeds of change I the hearts and minds of humans. Like the humans and Na’vi could work together to restore Earth to her former glory.
Idk sorry this was a lot of rambling lol 🤷♀️
