BUT YAY MORE QUESTIONS YAHOOO so the isles yes are set in olden times, like around the late 1700’s early 1800’s, and it is fictional so it’s not going to be historically accurate with their language or with their clothing, i just wanted it to be like fairy tale aesthetic and in the olden days because it felt real
and yes it does take three days to see one another, the isles are large (my map is poorly made) but it is large, the smallest isle is Marithen as it is an island, despite them being neighbors, Caliriel and Eloweth are in great distance from each other so the way Mark and reader keep in touch is mostly through letters, they write letters to each other almost every day, sometimes the letters will arrive in batches and sometimes their letters will be out of order like timeline like smth will happen one day they write about it but smth else happens and then the old letter is irrelevant, but they don’t care because they want to know everything about their lives when they’re not close in proximity. it’s why Mark and reader enjoy their company so much, because they know it takes a while for them to arrive to their grounds, so they cherish it a lot, it’s sweet

YES ofc he did, but he wasn’t loud abt it, he was quiet bc again mark is such a quiet person and is usually in his head abt things that make him uncomfy and this is just that. he cringes at it, he’ll try to fall asleep and is brain will be like yo dude, remember when you told y/n to not marry jaemin bc you love her but u didn’t tell her u love her? no? BC I DO AND NOW YOU ARE TOO!!!!
so mark does crash out, just quietly because he’s so in his head about it. he goes through every single different scenario of how it could’ve gone and it all ends badly, but at least in every different scenario he told you his true feelings for you. johnny noticed it too, the quiet of it all, how in his head mark was, how he constantly looked like he was thinking and out of it because he was. he was so in his head that it became his home rather than the castle he grew up in. his journal was filled with messy scribbles as he wrote everything down because he brain got so full with his inner thoughts that it weight him down.
his parents noticed it too, how their once lively son was suddenly down, sad and gray. he wasn’t alive anymore, he wasn’t the good kind of quiet they knew was an observer, but quiet in the way that was empty. it scared them, so they’d ask johnny if they’re son was okay, johnny would only reply with a shrug, not knowing what was wrong.

to be honest, as soon as y/n or the reader said she couldn’t marry jaemin, and dashed out of there with him, everyone knew you and jaemin weren’t gonna tie the old knot. everyone already knew it wasn’t right because it’s one thing to see you force yourself to like someone and then watch you actually love someone, so no one was really shocked, maybe a few people who aren’t caught up in the royal drama from a few kingdoms away, but your parents, sister, haechan and renjun, and marks parents knew you couldn’t go through with the wedding. now, mark just going straight to the inn???? mad weird
here’s the thing, that whole segment is told from your point of view, it shows what you saw. what you didn’t see was how mark tried to stand, he wanted to go after you, he genuinely did want to check up on you, mostly out of selfishness because if you couldn’t marry jaemin, did that mean you wanted to marry him instead. so, he tried to stand but a firm grasp held his arm in place, forcing him to remain seated.
haechan gave him a curt shake of his head, begging him to not interrupt your conversation with jaemin. this cut off wasn’t about you and mark, it was about you and jaemin. it was you thread to cut, your relationship to end and not have so many eyes on, especially marks, the person jaemin worried about, but never voiced it, but always knew that it would boil over.
mark clenched his jaw, feeling an agitation to stand and find you, beg to know what happened and how to make you feel better, how to comfort you, but selfishly, he also thought that this could be his opening after years and years of trying to move on, but it never working. he’s a horrible friend for thinking that, wanting that.
haechan could sense the tension in the room and sighed, knowing what he had to do. he stood up, clapping loudly to catch everyone’s attention as he announced that eventhough the ceremony was through, the reception was still alive and well, not his problem to solve, but the king and queen of both velendria and caliriel appreciated the distraction. everyone stood up, ready to go into the other room where thousands of finger food and full plates of whatever jaemin decided to serve and music for people to dance to. mark stood up, still debating on finding you, but haechan stopped him.
“don’t do it, the last thing i’d assume y/n or jaemin would want is to see you, or anyone” he explained, not wanting to sound mean or harsh, and eventhough mark knew that it was true, it still hurt. at the end of the day, he’s still your best friend, a shoulder to cry and lean on. stability. “come on, let’s go get some drinks? yeah?”
haechan’s arm that was thrown around marks neck felt heavy with guilt, his stomach wanting to bubble over as he realized that maybe, just maybe, he was the cause of all of this. it all hit him, his confession, your doubt, you words of uncertainty as you said you couldn’t marry the one man you said you would. it was his fault, his guilt to carry.
“i don’t think i can handle drinking right now. im gonna go actually”
haechan sighed, knowing that his words hit harder than he wanted to, knowing that it all dawned on mark that his confession was a catalyst that caused this outcome. what he didn’t know, was that even if he never said anything, you still couldn’t have married jaemin. you still would’ve said no at the alter.
SO that’s how mark ends up walking away and towards the inn and what happened during your conversation with jaemin. ik it’s short and prob not what ppl expected but it’s what i believe the characters would do considering how i wrote them to be and act 😛😛😛😛😛

LIKE IDK WHY but mark and renjun, it’s hard for me to write sad scenes with them, like i can do it (obv look at lucky) but it’s like i have to imagine the characters evil twin brother to do it justice bc like idk, but jaemin, jeno, jisung, YHEYRE FULL ON ANGST MALE LEADS like it’s so flowy to write them in angst, it’s why im amping up the angst for their stories because it just feels right to seem them in anguish, that makes me sound like i have a vendetta against them I DONT I LOVE YHEM but like i said they just give angst vibes

okay so i think it wasn’t planned, at all, i think mark knew he wanted to marry y/n, he wanted to be with her and it was so evident, but mark isn’t an action person, he uses his words as a weapon and as a way to show his love, while y/n loves his words and how much weight they carry or how much it can lighten up a situation, his actions are sparse so they hold the whole universe and that’s what y/n loves about mark, that he holds his actions to the people close to him like his parents or y/n, even haechan.
so, i don’t think mark planned it, i think it happened in the quiet. the quiet has always been y/n’s and marks safe space, its always been a space where they can be themselves and feel at peace in a rather stressful role as long and queen. so, i think it kind of just happened without a second thought, i like to think that mark already had her parents blessing and had the ring ready since she left jaemin at the alter, like right after their kiss, the day after mark spent so much time speaking with different blacksmiths and ring makers to create this ring that spoke true to who y/n is. so i think he kept it hidden, not yet ready to propose, but also not knowing when he’d do it. so he kept it hidden maybe under his pillow at night, in his nightstand in his nightstand.
so, i think he kept it hidden for a few months, just because each time he wanted to propose to y/n, it just wasn’t the right time, i think mark is intuitive on that. he didn’t want to mess up something he’s been waiting for for so long yk? he wants everything to go right, he doesn’t want to lose you, he doesn’t want to ruin something so new and something that has been seven years in the waiting. he wants to enjoy your time together, so each quiet time, each date he arranged, each random hang out, it was just time to spend together, it was sweet.
now, as for the actual proposal, sorry i took so long. i don’t think he was nervous, i just think he was consumed by his love for you. its mid day, the sun is at its peak, you’re both on the castle grounds of eloweth, at the wishing well you both love so dearly and the one you still use to this day, whispering about a perfect wedding and life with mark. it was quiet, the two of you on a blanket on the plush green grass, the gentle hum of the breeze hitting you both, the soft sounds of buzzing from the bees getting the pollen from the flowers that surrounded you both. johnny, making his rounds around the castle grounds as it was his duty to protect mark and now you. mark was scribbling away when he decided to look your way, the way your hand moved across the pages filled with ink, how your innermost thoughts flowed so easily. how quiet you looked, soft, gentle, like the air he breathes in. he studies you, your lips, the slope of your nose, your breathing and how when you were passionate about something you wrote, you breathed a little deeper. you were a sight he wanted to wake up to, go to sleep go, dream about, he wanted you so badly. he was consumed by you as every thought he had was about you, how would you rule your kingdom? what would you do in this situation? how are you doing? what were you doing? everything was about you.
mark hadn’t felt like this, this all consuming thing since you were both eighteen. he tried to move on, he did, especially during your courtship with jaemin, it just didn’t work. and now that he had you, dare he say he wanted to crawl into your skin and live there. you were everything he wanted and so much more.
the words were about to bubble up, about to come out but they were stopped when you sighed, stretching your arms above your head as you tilted your head up to face the burning sun. it was warm against your face, looking over at mark with a smile. you instantly caught how he stared at you, like he had hearts in his pupils.
“what?” you asked, confused with his stare.
mark froze. “uh, nothing, nothing” he said, shaking his head as he looked back at his journal as the simple words stared back at him. ‘i want to marry her’. it clicked for him, the timing, the place, everything was right. perfect weather, at the wishing well, the ring in his pocket. he looked back at you, watching how you decided to stand up.
“come on, let’s walk. it’s a perfect day and i wanna see what the grounds people did to the garden” you replied.
mark nodded, standing up, watching as you moved without him. your slow steps were like a break in time for him, instantly grabbing the ring box out of his pocket, calling your name as he got down on one knee. you turned around and there he was, kneeling as a ring box was opened up to show the ring he spent so much restless nights designing and working on with his people.
you felt your heart sink, not in horror, but in shock. you knew it was coming, you knew you were going to marry mark, but still it’s shocking to see the man you love on his knees, asking to marry you. he wants to be your husband.
“make me the luckiest person in the world and let me marry you”
simple words and the change of verbiage from saying marry to, let me marry you. it showed how much thought mark puts into his words, how much thought he puts into you. an action, no more interpretation, no more wondering or doubt. mark wants to marry you, he wants to be yours forever.
you instantly said yes, lucky tears filling your eyes as mark chuckled with joy, own tears filling his eyes as he stately got up and put the ring on your finger. it wasn’t heavy, wasn’t even light, it was the perfect weight that reminded you of mark when he held your hand, kissed your lips, and held you in a hug. it shined brighter than any star in the atmosphere, but mark thought it couldn’t shine brighter than you. you were everything to him.
