; IS CURSED

❝ Oh, that’s ESP kitty. He likes to linger around my house. I guess because I feed him food.❞

Ichimatsu had to look at the other male while he holding the orange cat for a few moments. Even when the other male placed the orange tabby on the ground and it was walking around freely, Ichimatsu still felt a bit nervous because the cat was known to repeat what he feels to the public world for all to hear.

satoshi  watched  the  tabby  cat  walk  around  in  circles  near  them,  causing  him  to  smile  and  nod  his  head.  “  i  see.  well,  i’ll  be  sure  to  bring  him  back  here  if  i  see  him  again.  “

raising  his  head  up,  he  now  put  his  attention  on  the  boy.  “  are  you  ..  new  to  the  village ?  i  don’t  think  i’ve  seen  you  at  school  before.  “  he  asked  curiously.  they  looked  around  the  same  age,  though,  satoshi  was  positive  he  has  never  seen  this  boy  at  his  school.  HE  WASN’T  HARD  TO  MISS  BY  HIS  APPEARANCE.

✁—- “ As long as you don’t mind staying the night with a girl! “ Shion wouldn’t want him to be uncomfortable with the circumstances. A slim finger started tapping on her chin, as she began pondering. Sure she had no idea what was going on with Satoshi and Satoko at home, but if Satoko was spending the night at a friend’s house, why couldn’t he? She smiled at him, before giving a thumbs up.

✁—- “ Just be sure not to tell your family who you’re staying with, ‘kay? I’d, uh, hate for you to get into trouble… “ Shion tilted her head. “ We can stop by your place, so you can get what you need! “ She smiled.

"  e - ehh ?  “  satoshi’s  head  lifted  to  look  at  shion  more  directly.  his  cheeks  began  to  burn  &&  turn  a  warm  shade  of  pink.  using  his  hand,  he  started  to  rub  the  back  of  his  head  in  embarrassment.  “  h - hah,  i  guess  i  never  really  thought  of  it  that  way  ..  but  i  don’t  mind.  “

“  get  in  trouble ?  “  he  knew  that  it  would  be  much  worse  than  a  slight  punishment  from  his  aunt.  he  knew  what  was  yet  to  wait  for  him  even  if  he  asked  to  spend  a  night  with  a  friend,  let  alone  a  female.  and  even  worse  ——  A  SONOZAKI.  “  heh  ..  don’t  worry  about  that,  shion.  “  he  used  the  palms  of  his  hands  to  push  himself  up  to  his  feet.  turning  his  head  &&  looking  back  at  shion,  he  forced  a  smile.   “  lets  leave  after  the  game  ..  okay ?  “

Oh? How delightfully interesting. This boy, so far gone as to ask this demon for the knowledge he seeks. It does not know, and it does not care - but it would act as though it knew. Why? Because it was more interesting this way, fun this way. Lead him on a scavenger hunt for something just out of reach, let him taste darkness when he realizes his hands are empty. That his grave is already dug.

HE  WAS  NOT  EXPECTING  TO  HEAR  SUCH  WORDS.  but  he  was  absolutely  right.  even  if  that  meant  taking  out  the  entire  village.  no,  no !  he  couldn’t  do  that.  satoshi  shook  his  head  rapidly  as  tears  began  to  stream  down  his  cheeks.  ❝  i  can’t  do  that !  no  ...  not  again.  ❞  he  remembered  the  mess  it  made.  how  he  buried  the  body  deep  in  the  woods.  IT  WAS  TRAUMATIZING.  there  was  no  way  he  had  the  strength  both  mentally  &&  physically  to  do  it  not  only  once  again  but  to  an  entire  village.  but  is  that  really  what  it  would  take  to  break  the  curse ?

he  then  heard  it.  THE  FOOTSTEPS.  he  twisted  his  body  to  do  a  180  degree  turn.  there  was  nothing  there.  ❝  did  ...  did  you  hear  that ?  ❞  his  pupils  darted  around  the  area.  trying  to  spot  if  there  was  anything  ...  ANYBODY  around.  ❝  tell  me  ...  you  heard  that  too !  it’s  oyashiro-sama,  isn’t  it  ?  ...  he’s  finally  came  to  make  me  disappear.  ❞

✁—- Truthfully, Shion could feel her heart ache from his response. She wanted to know what happened, but from how little he spoke, she figured she wouldn’t press right now. Maybe later. She nodded slowly as she followed behind him.

✁—- The day went by as normal, with Shion passing glances every so often to the other ; make sure he was doing well. She’d make sure to write her notes and homework down much clearer, figuring if he didn’t get the work down, Satoshi could just copy off of Shion. That’s what friends were for, right?

✁—- The day came and went, and Shion waved off her friends with a smile as she headed out to the baseball field. She took her time with getting there, reviewing her notes and homework and finalizing some highlighting. Shion smiled softly down at Satoshi and swayed from side to side, shifting on her own feet.

✁—- “ Hi! “ She greeted back, before taking a seat next to him. Hands fell to her lap and she tilted her head. Satoko was spending the night at Rika’s, huh? Shion’s smile grew into a toothy smile, and she placed her hand on Satoshi’s shoulder carefully, unknowing if any of his limbs were sore. She wouldn’t be surprised if his face is that scratched up. “ Hey, if that’s the case, why don’t you spend the night at my place? “ She realized how weird that sounded, and her cheeks flushed red. “ S-So I could help you with schoolwork! Ha… Good job, Shion… “ Shion gave Satoshi a firm thumbs up, and a grin. She knew he’d do well!

✁—- …Until he fell. Shion’s face warped with worry, and she stood up on her feet, pressing her hands over her eyes while squinting. He was hurt? Shion’s heart ached again, and a hand went up to her chest, clutching over her heart. Oh gods- Oh no- Was he going to be okay?

✁—- Shion would sit next to Satoshi, and carefully wrap her arms around him. She’d sigh, before giving him a smile. “ Don’t worry, “ Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper. “ You did your best… ! Don’t apologize, ‘kay? “

her  words  were  kind  ——  BUT  NOT  REALISTIC.  NOTHING  WAS  OKAY.  though,  he  couldn’t  blame  her.  she  had  no  idea  what  satoko  &&  himself  were  going  through  day  by  day.  but  being  a  sonozaki,  she  had  to  know  nothing,  right ?  satoshi  lifted  his  head  &&  stared  towards  the  ground.  ❝  i’ll  come  stay  the  night  with  you.  ❞  he  finally  answered  her  request.  he  knew  his  aunt  would  not  approve,  but  it’ll  all  blow  over  by  tomorrow.  he  hoped.

Delightful, delightful! Mischief brewed within word and it knew it had him. Wild vibrance in his eyes that spoke of fear without having to vocalize it. Every tremor that dripped from his tone suggested it, solidified it. “The dead do not remain silent. Rather chatty. They speak things, they know things.” Forbidden things, things he wishes to hide. Things BEN could draw out of him with enough force and careful lies. “You’ve only delayed your fate.”

“  my  fate ?  no,  no  ...  “  satoshi  grabbed  his  blonde  locks  with  both  hands.  HE  COULD  FEEL  HIS  SANITY  CRACKING.  he  didn’t  want  to  believe  it.  but  he  could  feel  it  even  know.  eyes  watching  him.  knowing  what  he  has  done.  knowing  he  will  be  pay.  “  i  ...  thought  i  was  doing  the  right  thing !  i  was  protecting  satoko !  “  his  little  sister  rised  about  everyone  else  ——  even  himself.  her  happiness  was  the  most  important  thing.  but  now  that  his  aunt  was  gone,  he  sees  he  is  still  cursed.  forced  to  walk  amongst  the  villagers  carrying  the  hojo  family  name.  &&  THAT  WAS  SOMETHING  NO  ONE  WOULD  LET  GO. 

✁—- “ You’re welcome…! Get home safe, okay? “ Her voice was soft, and filled with a welcoming tone. She herself turned away to start making her own way home which she probably should’ve done earlier, given how far away she lives. But she turned back one last time, to make sure she wasn’t imagining things. What happened. And she smiled.

✁—- The next day, Shion’s head was bobbing softly, as if she was floating on water. She wanted to sleep longer, but she had to travel a while to get here, wake up early. Satoshi’s voice made Shion perk up, albeit lazily, and she turned her head in the direction of him. Shion tilted her head, giving a soft smile.

✁—- “ Ah… Morning Satoshi-kun ~ ! “ She chirped, bringing a hand up to stifle back a yawn. “ Oh - !! Your face… Satoshi, are you okay…? “ She shook her head - That was a dumb question. She sighed softly, before rubbing the back of her neck. “ Y-Yeah! I was… planning on being there… “

when  she  pointed  out  his  face,  he  quickly  raised  his  hand  &&  lied  it  over  the  scrapes.  ❝  o-oh  ...  it’s  nothing.  ❞  when  hearing  she  would  attend  his  after  school  activity,  this  made  his  smile  once  again.  it  made  him  happy  to  hear  this.  ❝  oh,  good.  ❞  with  that,  him  &&  satoko  headed  into  the  school  to  start  the  school  day.

throughout  the  day,  satoshi  was  quiet.  it  wasn’t  like  him.  he  stared  out  at  the  clouds.  watching  them  pass  by  as  he  rested  his  head  on  his  hand.  even  dossing  off  a  few  times  throughout  class.  when  it  was  time  for  lunch,  satoshi  lied  his  head  down  &&  rested.

the  school  day  was  soon  over.  satoshi  headed  towards  the  baseball  field  where  he  was  already  changed  into  his  baseball  uniform.  he  sat  on  the  wood  bench  staring  down  at  the  dirt  below.  he  listened  to  the  voices  of  his  team  prep  talking  &&  laughing  with  each  other.  slightly  lifting  his  head,  he  saw  shion.  ❝  oh,  hey  ...  ❞  his  voice  was  weak  as  he  continued.  ❝  satoko  is  with  rika,  again  ...  i  think  she  is  planning  to  stay  the  night  with  her.  ❞  knowing  that  she  was  made  him  happy,  though  he  could  not  smile  about  it.  at  least  she  won’t  have  to  go  back  to  that  hell  hole  again  tonight.  ❝  ...  i  guess  i  better  get  up  to  bat.  ❞  with  that,  satoshi  stood  up  on  his  feet  &&  headed  over  to  the  base.

tightening  his  grip  around  his  metal  baseball  bat,  he  stood  ready  to  hit  the  ball.  first  pitch   ——  MISSED.  second  pitch   ——  ANOTHER  MISS.  last  pitch   ——  A  HIT !  if  you  could  even  call  it  that.  he  barely  hit  it  as  he  started  to  jog  his  way  to  first  base.  suddenly,  he  tripped.  falling  to  his  knees  &&  hunched  over,  he  began  to  cough  and  gag.  he  clenched  his  fists  while  trying  to  compose  himself  from  throwing  up.  the  game  stopped  as  his  teammates  ran  over  to  help  him.

satoshi  found  himself  back  on  the  bench  with  a  cold  bottle  of  water  in  his  hands.  ❝  i’m  sorry  ...  ❞  he  spoke  to  shion  with  hurt  in  his  voice.  ❝  i  guess  ...  i’m  just  feeling  a  bit  off  today.  ❞  he  had  a  lot  on  his  mind.  not  only  because  his  living  situation,  but  because  of  satoko.  he  wanted  her  to  be  happy  above  anyone  else.  HE  KNEW  SHE  WASN’T  &&  IT  WAS  TEARING  HIM  APART.
