See, this is what I mean by Seeley’s tendency to reduce Dick into a sex object.
The “pretty boy” usage feels excessive but livable. You would, as a public hero, probably face this kind of treatment.
It’s moments like this:
I know it’s supposed to be funny. Whoop-de-do. But the scene being referenced was CPR because Dick was drowning. It wasn’t even an instance of CPR that, by some fictional trope, turned into a kiss or a romantic moment. Dick was unconscious, then he wasn’t, then he jumped away and got back to what he was doing.
Or this, which was more clearly supposed to be humorous but still fell flat:
Note that Jim and Juan are the names the girls gave to Dick’s individual ass cheeks, which kind of exemplifies the point
I don’t even know how to describe what bothers me. It feels uncomfortable to have characters automatically default into thinking of Dick as a sex object first and everything else second. It’s a thing that is casually accepted as true. And to have the narrative implicitly support this as well, because we see no negative consequences or challenges to this behavior from Dick or the world at large. That is what bothers me.
Seeing Dick as attractive is one thing. That’s fine. Even sexualizing him, or fixating on romance, is fine in limited dosage. But the dehumanization is bothersome.
Months after developing an unexpected friendship with Dick Grayson, you start to notice how he sees you...truly sees you

Here is a song that kind of reminds me of this fic! Enjoy!
Dick Grayson gave you what no one had ever given you, their undivided attention. He would stare at you while you spoke, asking questions and coaxing you out of your shell. It was weird...it made you feel weird.
Your throat would close up and your cheeks would flush and then suddenly your vision would go blurry because suddenly you were hit the realization someone cared about you enough to notice.
It was shortly after that realization that the two of you became more than friends. Stolen glances turned into hugs that lasted too long until fate decided to take matters into her own hands.
What appeared to be another movie night at your apartment turned into a kiss that led to you freaking out and blurting out your feelings for him to hear.
"I'm sorry I should have never said anything...I should leave I-i mean you should leave...it's my apartment—not that I want to leave—"
"Hey, calm down. I like you a lot too."
Your breath hitched and instead of overwhelming you with instructions on how to calm yourself Dick simply pulled you into his chest, hugging you in that way that he knew you liked.
"I love you actually... everything about you."
A laugh left his lips as he laid down on the couch, head resting on the armrest while you stayed on top of him, listening to his heart beat into your ear.
"Gosh, where do I begin? I remember this one time, you were sitting by this group during a lecture and they must said something funny because you were laughing to yourself and you were just so beautiful. And the way you just listen, you devote your mind to what is around you and I just wish you didn't do that because you have so many things to say and kills me that you don't say anything, you just watch. You see things and you stay quiet about them. It's beautiful but I know you can do more than watch....I strayed away from my original point but, I love you. So much"
The silence was tense, you couldn't comprehend how someone like Dick Grayson could give you the time of day, let alone love you.
"What do you see in me?"
"Everything."
Dick sat up straight, and he looked at you with that stupidly pretty smile, and it killed you.
You slapped him. Your hand stung and so did your eyes as you held back tears.
"How can you look at me like I'm this great thing? I don't understand, I don't understand why you came to talk to me at that party and why you are treating me like this great thing! I'm not great, I don't understand how you can stand being around me. There are so many beautiful girls who know how to talk to people and who know the right things to say, and they don't have all this baggage like I do and they would be so much better for you."
You waited for him to get mad. To yell and change his mind about what he wanted with you...but he didn't, of course he didn't, he just held your face in his hands as you cried.
"I don't want them. I want you, stop pushing me away, you deserved to be loved."
He paused, watching how you looked everywhere but that him, and it hurt way more than the sting on his cheek.
"You don't have to shove yourself in some dark place just because others don't understand you. I want to help you, I want to be there for you. I know how much you struggle, it doesn't scare me. I don't see you as some charity project."
You were sobbing now, and all Dick did was pull you back into his chest, feeling your hands tug at his shirt
"I see you as this beautiful woman that I love, and all I want from her is for her to see how much she deserves all the good things in life."
Dick felt your breath hitch as he ran a hand through your hair, his movements stilled for a moment until he felt you lean into his warmth. Your breath still stuttered, but it was starting to even out.
He watched as your breath got slower with each minute, tears staining your cheeks as you started to drift to sleep in his arms.
Minutes passed before Dick carried your limp body to your bed, pausing in the doorway as he felt you stir.
In the morning, you woke to the smell of breakfast filling your tiny apartment. After laying in bed for about fifteen minutes you finally mustered up the energy to get out from underneath your blanket and made your way out of your bedroom.
"Morning, did you sleep well?"
Dick asked as he poured pancake batter onto a griddle. You let out a soft sound as you nodded, rubbing the sleep from your eyes.
"I figured since you were talking in your sleep."
A small chuckle left your lips as you walked by him, grabbing a chocolate chip from his hand before he could add it into the batter.
"What was I talking about?"
"Wanting pancakes."
You nodded, fidgeting with your fingers as you looked at the stack on pancakes in tortilla warmer you had laying around your kitchen. You felt that weird feeling in your chest, the one you got when there was a question you needed to be answered but were too scared to ask.
"Dick."
"Hmm?"
"What are we?"
He stayed silent, taking the fresh pancakes off the griddle and adding them to the stack before turning to look at you, a soft smile on his face. Not the one he would use for parties or galas. It was the way he would look at you like you hung the moon that let you know it was for you, and only you.
"Whatever you want us to be."
You shifted nervously, trying to get more words out before he spoke for you.
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
You nodded, a smile forming on your as you wrapped your arms around his neck, kissing him on the cheek.
After so long of relying on the wall that kept you standing, that let you watch the world, you had finally found the sun.

Content: Dick Grayson x gn!reader, College boy Dick, sfw
Summary: After a frat boy part you wake up in Dick Graysons bed, naked and sore. Of course you had to sleep with the notorious campus heartthrob but for some reason he isnt in a hurry to let you leave
Tw: mentions of alcohol, sex and nudity
The first thing that seeped into your consciousness is the way your body aches, specifically your head. You probably shouldn't have gone to that dumb frat boy party your friend had dragged you to, nor should you have tried to drink away the unbearable playlist that was blasting out of every window that night. Big mistake.
The second thing you noticed is the warmth of someone next to you, their arm slung loosely around your waist, holding you against a plush, bare chest. The realization that you were dumb enough to have a one-night stand with a frat boy himbo in an alcohol-induced rush was quickly adding to the throbbing pain and growing regrets. Similar to the faint smell of cologne mixed with a hint of sweat and beer from whoever was breathing down your neck in slow, deep puffs, clearly your Romeo wasn't quite back on track either, nor was he willing to let you go.
"Mmm... jus' a lil... longer..." he murmured into your ear when you stirred in his arms, his voice rough and weirdly familiar. His nose and lips brushed against your bare shoulder as he tightened his grip on you. The guy was awfully clingy for a one-night stand, you thought, but you had no chance to take a glimpse at your mystery lover since you couldn't remember whatever heinous things you committed to with a nigh stranger.
That's when his hands began to wander again, not greedy nor hungry, at least not yet, but exploring the softness of your skin, the curve of your chest and back down your abdomen. Lazy kisses were now pressed against your shoulder with a low, hoarse hum.
Okay, you thought, that's it. You turned around and looked up into a pair of killer baby blues that stole hearts everywhere they looked. A small, cheeky smile curled his lips upwards as you realized you didn't sleep with just any old frat boy himbo. You slept with the ultimate frat boy himbo. Dick Grayson. The guy that everyone loved and who had a long track record of breaking hearts and beds alike.
You had a few courses with him, though calling you friends would have been an exaggeration. You got along well though he had a habit of not showing up to class, or criminally late, and asking for your notes with a sheepish smile and a promise he would make it up to you.
Seems like he did just that last night, judging by how certain body parts feeling rather sore. And he seemed very satisfied with himself as he looked down at you, eyes sparkling warm and sweet before he had the audacity to lean down and kiss you square on the lips, soft and slow.
"G'morning, baby. Sleep well?"
At this point you wondered if you missed something, if you had somehow forgotten more than just a steamy night. Like, for example, a full-fledged confession of sorts or a meaningful heart-to-heart, anything that could explain why he didn't ask you to get dressed and get lost. That's what you expected from cocky college boys, but Dick was in no hurry to get rid of you just yet.
"Ye-yeah." Your voice broke, hoarse from screaming over music at the party (or his name while he pounded into you, who knows). You cleared your throat, trying to swallow away the roughness of your throat. "I think I'm a bit hungover, though," you admitted to him without outright saying that you didn't remember a thing from last night. He didn't have to know just yet.
What you didn't know, on the other hand, was that Dick had just been waiting for an opportunity like this. You weren't just a sight for sore eyes (especially now) but you were smart, sweet and kind enough to help him out every time. He loved the slightly crooked handwriting and the occasional rough doodle on the sides of the pages. You were just cute! So he may or may not have had an eye on you for a bit, but you had always managed to resist his charming smiles and slip right through his fingers. Damn you and your responsible attitude.
But last night he got to you when you were drunk, hanging on your friends' arm and nagging them about the noise, the music, the party, everything. He had just been delighted to pluck your cranky ass from your friend and get you somewhere quiet. The initial plan had been to be a gentleman and take care of you to show off how good of a guy was, but then you kissed him and every thought had left his mind.
Dick was not complaining. Not last night nor right now. How could he when he got you in his arms? Now he just had to get you to stay, just a little longer, here with him. Maybe you would think a little more of him, like about what a lovely boyfriend he would make. But he was getting ahead of himself.
"You got a headache? I can get you something for that." He answered you with an easy smile, planting a kiss on your head before he slipped out of bed to get you painkillers and some water. "I can make us breakfast too! I promise you, I make the best pancakes you ever had."
You hummed along absentmindedly without even really listening anymore as the full figure of him in all his naked glory sauntered through the room, all broad, muscular back and a very plump cake blinding your eyes. Maybe you could stay a little longer... for the pancakes, of course.
“that’s it, baby. look at the camera.” dick murmurs against your cheek, softly angling your face towards the camera dick set up. “show ‘em that pretty face.”
his thighs slap harshly against your ass, his hard abs against your back. your mind is hazy and your words sound more like gibberish as dick fucks you in front of his camera.
it was a crazy idea. you’ve been seeing dick for a couple of months, after being friends with him for years. it’s nothing serious (yet), just sex. when he asked if he could record you two fucking… it threw you into a shock, but you agreed anyways. the thought of dick watching the video when you weren’t around him was hot. it made your mind buzz.
“you look so pretty, baby.” dick whispers, his eyes flicker to the camera before turning all his attention onto you again. “don’t look away from the camera.” his lips press against your cheek, kissing your face gently.
his hand moves from your face down to your neck, pressing on it firmly. he thrusts his hips harder, causing a small cry from your throat. he always knew what made your body happy, your skin crawl and mind empty. he definitely used it to his advantage. “go on, show how needy my girl can be.” he praises easily, his voice smooth and soft. dick calling you his girl warming your heart.
you moan softy, now moving your hips to match with his. trying to match with his tempo. “good girl, you listen so well.” you know he’s smiling, you can hear his smug voice. “keep moving your hips.”
“move faster,” dick shifts slightly, letting his free hand roam down your body. raising it up, he smacks your ass. “keep going, show off for me, angel.” he murmurs again, continuing to press kisses into your skin. your body shivers, knowing it won’t be over anytime soon.
