warnings: fluff, this chapter is super soft, some Veronica bashing. (I love her so much but for the sake of this chapter shes a b-i-c-t-h-...ignore my vine reference rip vine.)
summary: dani, FP’s daughter with another woman is finally going home to southside and staying there for good. she’s glad to be back with her brother jughead, best friends toni, and fangs, and her something more than friends, sweet pea.
Riverdale’s Northside sucks, what else is new. The school though is great because you’ve never gone to a school with working… well everything. The teachers seem to actually care, the textbooks are unmarked and legible, Hell even the desks are in pristine condition and not bolted to the floor.
That being said the students leave a little to be desired. Their prejudice isn’t masked behind smug smirks anymore. Their hatred is blatant and their fear is palpable. Being at this school is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to us but you won’t just roll over to some Northside pricks who think they’re better than you and your friends just because you are from the other side of town. You’ve been in fights that you hadn’t started but you certainly ended. Of course you were the only one punished for said fights but like you said,, you won’t just roll over and take it.
That doesn’t mean you want to just give up on education because despite what people think you’re actually quite smart and this may be your chance to get you and Danielle out of Riverdale. You both don’t want to leave the Serpents because they’re your family but you also don’t want to be drug smuggling the rest of your life just so you can get by while some already rich bastard gets even richer. You want to go to college, you like numbers… math comes so easy to you that you’ve already been placed in advanced calculus. You think maybe you’ll be ok with some boring 9-5 job if it brings you and Danielle some stability. You see a real future with her.
You’re brought out of your musings when Fangs and Danielle join you in the student lounge. You all have a free period so you mostly spend it together. Toni has a free period but she’s usually off with Cheryl. A weird development that’s for sure because Cheryl used to be the Queen of Hating Serpents but if anyone can change someone’s world views it’s certainly Toni.
Dani sits on the couch beside you, snuggling deeper into your side. Another thing you like about this school is that it’s easier to show PDA to your beautiful girlfriend. Dani leans over and kisses your cheek and you inhale her perfume. It’s the Sweet Pea perfume from Bath and Body Works that you got her ironically and she hasn’t stopped wearing it. You take in her outfit too, she’s wearing blue jean shorts, a white long sleeve with her ever present Serpent jacket except this one is her dark jean one instead of her leather.
You smile down at her and continue on with your conversation with Fangs, after about twenty minutes you look down at what Dani is doing that’s kept her so enraptured. She’s reading a book of poems and writing notes. She must be writing a new song.
“What are you doing baby?” you ask, and smiles up and you and your heart clenches. God you love her.
“Writing a song. There’s a talent show coming up and I hear that Josie and the Pussy Cats always wins or more recently Veronica Lodge.” she grimaces at the name. “I wanted to write a song and perform.” she finishes with an insecure smile. She’s the baddest most confident woman you know but when it comes to her singing she always gets so insecure.
“Oh yeah whats the song about?” you ask her. “You.” She responds simply.
“Oh yeah? You writing a love ballad about me or paying ode to my sexual prowess?” you smirk.
“Ha ha. Very funny Sweets.” she rolls her khol lined eyes. “If you must know I read this poem by Anna Uhlich. It reminded me of you…”
Fangs rolls his eyes at how lovey dovey you two are and goes back to texting a certain boy on his phone.
“It goes like this: ‘my eyes are an ocean in which my dreams are reflected.’”
You smile at her, “What does that mean to you baby?”
“You’re so passionate and despite how you portray yourself all your emotions are expressed through your eyes. Everytime you look at me I fall in love even more, you’ve got me stuck in your ocean eyes.” She whispers that last part and for a few seconds you forget you’re at school.
The moment is disrupted by none other than Veronica Lodge herself. “Aww how cute,” she coos giving you both a grin like the cat that got the canary. “I see you signed up for the talent show… I didn’t even know Serpent Scum had talent.” she bites. You see Danielle squeeze her fists together in anger and you can feel your face grow hot with rage.
“Jesus Christ Veronica. It’s a high school talent show. Are you really so threaten you resort to playground insults.” you look up at Betty in surprise. You knew that the blonde was dating Jug and you knew she was ok with the Serpents but you never thought she’d stand up for one.
“No V, you’re being ridiculous.” Betty grabs Jugs hand and goes to sit down on the chairs beside you. “I think you should leave if you’re going to be like that…”
Veronica’s face looks almost comical. Her look of shock quickly forms to anger as she turns tale and walks away.
“Thanks Betty.” Danielle smiles.
“Anytime.” Betty responds. You scratch your head, thinking about how you just saw a new friendship bloom.
Two long grueling weeks later, (You’re still not used to all this school work) you, Jugs, Betty, Fangs, Toni, Cheryl, Kevin, and even FP are sitting front row in the schools auditorium waiting for the talent show to start. Dani has been working so hard on this song and she hasn’t let anyone hear it yet.
A few people perform, a little magic act here, some dancing there. Josie and her Pussy Cats sing some obscure pop anthem about sex and girl power that really gets the crowd going. They’re talented, you’ve gotta them that that.
Veronica and Archie are next on stage singing Mad World which is boring but decent. That is until she just storms off stage. Always with the dramatics.
Lastly Dani heads to the stage, her electric piano is being set up. You hit Fangs in the chest in excitement because you love your girl so much and you are so proud of her. Toni grabs your hand and grins from ear to ear.
“Go Dani” Fangs and Toni yell followed by some whistles from FP and Jugs.
She takes a seat and you see her inhale a big breath.
“Hi everyone, my name is Dani Jones and I’m going to be singing a song I wrote…”
The music starts, it’s some and melodic. Dani hums out some notes, fingers tapping away at different effects on the keyboard.
