Where better to escape trouble than a theater?

The doctors there called me psycho and assumed I couldn’t think for myself. They held me down against my own will. I could only go outside if I was in a cement area surrounded by a fence. The rooms were equivalent to jail cells. I cried and told them to stop and they would say “the psychosis…”.

Psychotic people and others with demonized or “scary” mental illnesses are often not treated as humans. Please don’t leave people on the schizophrenia spectrum out of your activism.

on 23 June a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit Mexico with its epicenter in Oaxaca, where there is a predominant indigenous demographic. the majority of the damage occurred in indigenous pueblos that are still curently recovering from the devastating earthquake that happened 3 years ago. these same indigenous communities are also simultaneously experiencing displacement due to COVID 19 and lack of government aid. these are places that have the most vulnerability and need the most direct action and attention in recovery and aid.

Medda sat on the edge of the stage. She had just finished upwith her stage manager and was sitting on the stage arranging flowers for theshow’s set.

The vaudevillian smiled as she saw Crutchie approach, but as she noticedthe girl’s appearance she got concerned.

“Of course, dear. You can always talk to me.”

She forced it down in regards of Crutchie’s feelings. “If you’re willing to accept, I would like to congratulate you.”

The vaudevillian knew it was a complicated situation, but she could bring some joy to it.

At the sound of Davey’s name, she became wary. The Bowery owner has always seen him as a responsible boy. It would shock her if he didn’t step up to the plate, but men tended to let fear get the best of them in these situations.

Medda inched closer in attempt to hold Crutchie, waiting for her permission.

She ran comforting caresses across her back while giving her reassurance.

“Shh. I’m here. You’re not alone.”

The mother figure continued to keep one hand on the girl’s back and placed another on hand.
