Yoga for Weight Loss Workshop Why Yoga for Weight Loss? Scientifically, weight loss seemed to be a simple equation. Output of energy being more than input of energy (calories), and the net will be loss of weight. However, in reality, it is more complicated than you want it to be. And from the Yoga perspective, wellness in terms of food, sleep and exercise, can play a huge part in it. In last Sat's workshop, our Yoga Teacher Kelly, talked about the different body types based on our elements. What elements you may asked, it is the elements of metal, earth, fire and water from the ancient science. And the reasoning is very intriguing. Different body types are drawn to different types of food for different reasons. But the best part is there are food that can counter certain imbalance. Also, eating is an art form too. Mindful eating is key to feeling satisfied without overeating. I mentioned earlier that balancing of calories in and out underline weight management. Two other areas that people seldom cross people's mind it comes to weight management are sleep and breathing. Sleep is important, as it can affect your mood, which can affect the way you eat. Also, physiologically, having enough sleep can improve the feeling of being full. So in the workshop, discussion went on on how to improve sleep quality. Breathing is related to metabolic rate and metabolic rate can affect your weight. This is because our oxygen intake can affect our bodily functions. So Teacher Kelly talked about how we should breath properly and how we can practice breathing exercises at home. Of course the workshop was wrapped up with yoga exercises. The exercises were revolved around the core muscles. According to Teacher Kelly, if you don't want your belly to hang out, you gotta have a strong core. Make sense doesn't it. Weight management and weight loss can be a challenge, but knowing the proper know how can only help you to ease into it, and get the results you want.
