samuelâs family has ruled over zĂźrich for four centuries. itâs one of the most influential duchies in the whole country and the zähringers are very close to the crown. so close that samuel practically grew up with the heir of switzerland. they went to the same football practice, took the same electives just so that they could be a menace to the teachers together... their roads only separated when samuel packed up his bags and moved to berlin for higher education.Â
samuel was very content with what he had when he was a child: everything he wanted, he would get. a new tennis racket ? it would be in his hands within an hour. a pool ? well, his parents didnât ruin their historic home on a whim but they cleaned up a pond for him, which cost quite a few pennies. it was only after samuel began appreciating abstract things... like influence, and power. that was when envy budded in his chest. whenever he looked at his friend, he could feel it growing. it was one of the reasons why he left. he needed to exist outside of his friendâs sphere of influence --- because samuel would always be second to his friend.Â
in berlin he learned a few things but mainly he just gained new friends. he was out almost every night, creating new contacts, making sure people knew his name. berlin was his playground and he enjoyed every minute of it. in berlin he got into a relationship with elyse, one of his first serious relationships. alas, it did not last.Â
once samuel had his masterâs degree, he felt quite lost. there wasnât anything for him in berlin anymore. he couldnât figure out what to do with his degree in macroeconomics. work at a bank ? no, that was beneath him. so he ended up just... drifting from one place to another. heâd be presented with an opportunity, heâd take it and see it through and then move onto the next one. it worked for a few years, and then by chance... the opportunity that crossed his path came in the form of femke van oranje-nassau.Â
2013 went by in a whim. as much as femkeâs looks and beautiful mind intrigued him, he saw what was behind her: the throne of the netherlands. it called his name. he would gain a nice title to go with his future one --- maybe then heâd feel at easy whenever he walked down the halls of the palace in bern.Â
in 2015 he and femke tied the knot. a year later his father fell ill and samuel had to attend to his duties as the next duke of zĂźrich. unsurprisingly, it had not become much easier to be around his friend. but it had become easier. just a tad, but tad was good. he could work with that. it was like desentization therapy for him to spend long periods of time in switzerland. he got back into the habit of spending long nights with his friend, both of them with beers in their hands. in 2017, he officially became the duke of zĂźrich.
flashforward to 2020, he and femke have their firstborn. the marriage has been rocky but not even once has their facade cracker. they are very alike in that: personal shit never gets in the way of business. klara is very much his pride and joy even if he has agreed to give her to the netherlands --- itâs okay because the next addition to the family is on the way ! heâs arriving in march ! ( weâre the only ones who are ACTUALLY staying true to the nextgen task )
what does this mean for the swizerland-spain-san marino-italy plot ?
sweden is involved too because otherwise iâd have to erase ebba from the whole thing and i donât want to do that
switzerland is still involved because i need some drama for samuel, heâs been much less involved in it though, but is now here to represent the crown on behalf of his buddy !
sweden is definitely more involved because of reasons that will become apparent soon enough
