Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

Don’t listen to people when they tell you what weapons you need to have. I know a lot of people are gonna overload you with “Go get Witherhoard!” or “You need to have Gjallerhorn!” First off, no, you don’t. Get them when you have time, but getting top tier weapons in the game should not be your top priority when your first starting out. Trust me. And honestly, people who rely too much on a certain overpowered weapon really aren’t as good as they say they are.

PRIMARY WEAPONS!!! I’m not kidding you. They are that important. I tried to run a raid last week with a guy who had just started and he had a Witherhoard on him already and that thing was like his security blanket. Dude did not know that he was supposed to use a primary weapon. All people told him was to get Witherhoard and he’d be fine. NO! Familiarize yourself with the primary weapons section before you do ANYTHING ELSE. And not just one of them, start learning the strengths and weaknesses of each primary, so that, not only will you know when they’re effective, you’ll also know how to counter them in the crucible. Your primary weapon should be the backbone of your loadout. And no, anything you actually have to physically pick up ammo for does not count.

Don’t enter Raids, Trials, or High Level Nightfalls until you’re leveled properly AND you have a team that can teach you with a calm, patient demeanor. I’ve had friends quit the game over the fact that endgame content in Destiny 2 can be unforgiving if you don’t know what to do. And it’s true, but given the right guidance, you will eventually have what it takes to snag an Adept weapon and start farming high level materials, but don’t put the cart before the horse. Learn the basics of movement in the class you want to learn, learn how to clear ads, learn the simple stuff first. Endgame content isn’t going anywhere.

Start with the Vanguard Ops Playlist. This node used to be known as the Strikes playlist, but it covers simple story missions that, while not too hard, give you enough of a tough time at the early levels to help you learn. Abuse this playlist. Use it to try different subclasses, weapons, armor, gear, play styles, basically anything you want to know about. It’s also a matchmaking playlist and you’re never fighting aloe so it’s a good time to start learning how to fight with a team.

Xur is your best friend. Your friendly neighborhood noodleman appears every Friday and stays until Tuesday Morning. He sits in the Winding Cove in the EDZ, the Watcher’s Grave on Nessus, or in the Hanger in the Tower. He sells exotic gear and once (or twice if you do his Cipher bounty) a week, you get an exotic you don’t already have, so picking up every yellow piece of gear he has for sale for your character as well as the weapon is worth a pick up because once you have it, you can reclaim it from your collections

Destiny 2’s fun is in its Customization. It’s nice to have favorites, but the true fun is finding hidden gems. Weapons that you don’t see people using, exotics you’ve never heard of, a piece of exotic armor that sounds interesting. The longevity that most streamers and veterans find comes from not using the exact same loadout constantly. Variety is the spice of life.

They clutch a corked bottle in the left hand, clutch it tight like they’re about to smash the thing on the wood of the raft. Or maybe, toss it as far into the sea as their arm allows.

But it’s a promise, and a promise is only as good as your remembering of it. So they make sure it’s safe, make sure the water doesn’t get into the scrolled-up letter inside. They sit cross-legged, legs bent inwards like snapped twigs.

This was a punishment, once. When the Gods were displeased, they put you so far away from people that you would forget society, humanity, and then, life itself.

But then, the gods forgot. They learnt compassion and mercy, and they coddled the humanity they once smote. The greater their empathy developed, the more ashamed they became of their cruel deeds of the past. So, they forgot, by will, such as how the gods are able to.

All except Drusaes, who manifests through the parting clouds and the colossal thunder. That same Drusaes, god of injury, who rejected the gift of compassion, and who found herself idle and unenthused in the days that had come.

She still visited the one on the raft.

She came with pain—a sharp pang in the ankle, or a headache, or painful ribs. Never too much. When Drusaes appeared, she stroked the hurting part of the body. She can heal, in a fashion, but the one on the raft rejected healing.

“Another revolution around the sun,” she said. “How many thousands is that now?”

The one on the raft grasps their shin, lets out a low moan. Wishes for terrible things.

“I’m the only one who can set you free, and yet, you cling to some hope that you will be saved be someone else.” She stroked the shin with gentle, ring-bearing fingers. Gold bangles clinked on her wrists. “It’s pitiful.”

“There’s no saving,” the one on the raft said. “Not from the gods.”

“No, of course not.” The goddess smiled. “The gods would rather forget their bloodlust, their depraved ways of old, and they would frolic with farmers and shepherds in meadows and fields. They can’t save you, no.”

The one on the raft knew what came next.

“But I can,” Drusaes said. “Just a thought, and you’ll be back. No harm, no foul. A new life, any life you can think of. Rehabilitation.”

“I don’t need help from a god,” the one on the raft spits in to the salty sea. “Not from the soft ones, and not from you.”

Drusaes feels a prick. It’s a sensation she craves, and she presses on, so that she may feel this more.

“You don’t care about your freedom anymore. You just want to spite the gods, out of anger, out of your sheer hate for them.”

The one on the raft grips the bottle tighter.

“You will risk being here forever, just because you cannot forgive. How can one simple human hold so much anger?”

The shin felt better now, as it should. This meant Drusaes was leaving, for now. She would return later to gloat, to tempt them, to convince them to give up their pride.

     you sat alone in your room, your depressing playlist playing lowly on your speakers. you laid in bed underneath your weighted blanket like a lump, unmotivated to get up, eat, hydrate, or even anything. you were deep in your depression this time around, and you couldn’t stop crying. but eventually, and gladly, you ran out of tears to cry, so you laid in your own sorrow. it’s been around a good two to three weeks, and your roommate was really worried about you.

    techno, even though he streams and grinds on the dreamsmp, still has time to worry about you and take care of you during these trying times. he made you breakfast, lunch, dinner, and would even order out when you asked. he would bring floof into your room so you guys could cuddle on the bed. he’s gotten soft with you, and he’s a little embarrassed about it, but since you really need him now he doesn’t mind.
