Sup, do ya hate plastic? Cool. Here's how to make plastic with potatos 🥔. This shit is biodegradable(takes 2-3 weeks) . Easy to make. And the ingredients are probs already in your kitchen or super market. (Dont mind the spelling mistakes and i tried making the post look aesthetic but I'm shit at it and it's cringy. sorry yall.😭🤧)
Also this ain't written by ai. I saw a yt video alooong ago and I can't find it. But thankfully wrote it down in my old ass Naruto notebook. The source is from my notebook and a bunch of articles I gather and mixed it up for good enough results.
💗Step 1:Shit ya need💗-
Water
Potato starch or 2 fully peeled potato, cornstarch is can also be used
Vegetable glycerine,also known as glycerin or glycerol
Vinegar (I prefer white vinger bc idk if it works with other vingers)
Food coloring if you want your plastic to be pretty 💅
Bowl
Spatula
Non stick Pan
Stove or hotplate
Blender if your using peeled potatos
Peeler if your using peeled potatos
Filter if your using peeled potatos
Set up your stuff up and let's move forward
💗Step 2: if you're using potatos: Extract the Starch!🥔🥔🥔💗-
1)Get a potato, and wash it.
2)Use a peeler to take all the skin off.
3) Cut the peeled potato up into cubes your blender can handle.
4) Add about 1 cup of water and the cubes to the blender, and turn it on high for a minute or two.
5) Them use a coffee filter to strain off the cloudy water.
6) If you plan on making the plastic right away, drying the mixture is not completely necessary, but if you plan on storing it for a while, spread it out on wax paper in a sunny area for it to dry or it could get moldy otherwise.
This step if optional again. If you want to purify your starch extraction feom cellulose you can use this regant-Schweizer's reagent (hope the link works or you can copy and paste it or i will dm you)

This is optional. You can also use ready made potato starch or corn starch or tapioca starch if you're fancy now to the next step✨️
💗Step 3: Mixing it up like you mean it-💗
be sure to have someone with you when using the stove if you think you can't trust yourself with your safety , I don't want you to burn down your house because of this!!! (My mom scolded my ass) Also, beware of the starch plastic resin when you are pouring it into a mold, it is very hot and will burn you if it gets on your skin, you can never be too cautious with boiling hot substances. I don’t want you guys to look like William afton after Michael burns the pizzeria
1) Measure out 60 ml/4 tablespoons of cold water and pour it into the beaker or container your heating the mixture in.
2) Measure out 10 grams/or about 1 tablespoon of starch ( the potato / corn starch you made or bought) and add that to the water.
3) Add 5 ml or about 1 teaspoon of acid (vinegar) to the mixture.
4) Add 5 ml or about 1 teaspoon of glycerin to the mixture, more glycerin will make it softer and more flexible, less will make it harder and stiffer but more brittle.
5) If a colored plastic is what you want, add in the food coloring now. About 5 drops is good enough but i add six bc my food coloring is made using flowers my parents grow.
6) Turn the burner on low and constantly stir the mixture ( i usually put on music to stay focused). When it starts to thicken up turn the heat up to medium and stir even more. When it starts to boil, keep boiling it for 5 minutes. You want it to be very clear and sticky,not like toothpaste though, think flubber or slime from nickelodeon shows.
7) You should now have a gooey substance that you can pour into a mold, or you can pour it onto a sheet of aluminum foil/silicone heat pad to dry.
8) Depending on humidity, it should take about 1 day to dry in a sunny place. You can dry it faster by putting it in an oven set to 150 F for 1-2 hours. I do think the sun is best way to dry but you do you.
💗Step 4: mold it💗-
Just do whatever you want with it. Bowls,Plates and dinnerware,Plastic bags,Cups,Pens. Anything you want really. I usually use it to make bracelets charms for my friends or make wraps for my food.
If any curious minds are there who wonders how it tastes. Don't. Tastes bad in my opinion. (Yes I tried it. Mom was horrified by my reaction while my dad and brother laughed)
