Hand forged steel strikers for flint and steel fire lighting. All 4 forged from a farriers rasp.
"I personally believe that an animal that is worth taking the life of, to enshrine as a part of your own life; of a memory of something done properly, correctly and ethically, is worth respecting. I believe hunting is a moral thing, if done correctly, and if done morally. And there’s a hard way to do it, and an easy way to do it. Now, it’s the same idea as rock climbing, the idea isn’t to fall off the mountain, the idea is to reach the top. And the same way it is with hunting; the object is not necessarily to kill the animal, it is to hunt him honorably; on his terms. And in the case of dangerous game, at considerable risk." - Peter Hathaway Capstick
Knife review incoming! I've decided i'd like to review one of my favorite folding knives. It will be personal opinion, but i've been using knives for years, and making them for years. The review will be honest.
An update on my everyday carry system. Still missing a few items, and there are a few objects i wish to carry which i cant legally, but thats a different story. Feel free to comment on any items i showed or ask any questions you have.

Do you think you could survive an apocalypse?
Depends on the apocalypse.
Survival Mentality And Mental Resources
In any potentially life threatening situation, the feeling of hopelessness is a constant enemy and giving up becomes a constant threat. These mental threats are just as if not more dangerous than the physical in these types of scenarios. This is why the resources in your mental tool box are just as important as those in your knowledge and physical tool kit. The will to fight and survive is your most important weapon in the fight for your life, and you can use your mental resources to forge that weapon. Your mental resources are the things that can help you fight off whatever the world throws at you. Friends, family, loved ones and life goals are the resources you will find in almost every mental resource stash. When they are with you in person it is easy to take advantage of them to help you overcome the adversities life sends your way. When you are alone, you must think and remember these things and realise that your goal is to get back to the people and things you love in the minimum amount of time while still staying safe. Anything you have to do to survive and return to your loved ones will become far more manageable when you realise you arent just working towards survival for yourself, but also for everyone who cares for you, and all the people you will effect positively throughout your life. For all those times life throws shit at you, remember that giving up doesnt just effect you, but all those who love and care about you, and fight to the last to protect yourself and them.
Tip 89.
Build your own survival kit. That way you know what is in there, how it works, and most importantly that it works. It will also save you money, and you wont be lugging gear you dont need.
Sorry for the lack of posts, I'm a volunteer firefighter in Australia, so flat out at the moment!
Personally I don't really have a problem with hunting, but I know a lot of ex and current military guys who say that they are completely opposed to it because it is immoral, pointless and there is no challenge involved at all. What are your thoughts on that opinion?
No challenge? I think they are mixing up HUNTING and sitting on the side of a hill with a high powered rifle and picking off animals from hundreds of meters out. As for immoral, do they eat meat? Whats the difference between buying meat from a supermarket and killing it yourself? You know how the animal died, and any real hunter would show the animal the respect it deserves. As for pointless, if its pointless for them, then its pointless for them. They probably do things that i think are pointless. If they enjoy them and find challenge or pleasure or interest in the activity, who am i to stop them?

Happy Christmas Everyone!
Two interesting points from this article:
1. Don’t rely on digital maps, particularly in remote areas. When relating this story to a colleague he mentioned that he was at Halls creek in remote north west Australia recently and the inbuilt GPS/mapping system in his VW Touareg didn’t show Hall Creek, instead it named the area East Kimberley. He is a proficient navigator and had paper maps that he used as his primary navigation aid and knew where he was. His point was that some others, who were less familiar wit the area and navigation may be totally confused by the inaccuracy.
2. If a person dies as a result of following an incorrect mapping application it would be interesting to see what finding a Coroner would hand down in relation to the inaccuracy of the map. Despite any disclaimer digital maps may contain, would there be any criminal or civil liability on the part of the map maker or distributor?
Dont trust your iphone/smart phone GPS too much boys and girls.
Tip 88.
Slingshots are an excellent piece of equipment for survival kits. Just make sure they are legal in your area of the world. As with any hunting tool, practice until you are accurate with your chosen ammunition and with stones, just in case you are in the field and lose your ammo/use it up. Also a good plan to learn how to tie slingshot bands onto a fork, then you can just carry bands and ammo.
Added 2 more rabbits to the freezer this evening :)
Alas it was about half midnight when i got back, so had to quickly clean them, but one of these days i'll probably shoot a video on how to clean a rabbit :)
Do you like trap?
Trap as in trap animals for food? Yes, rabbits mainly, though i have been known to set a few fish snares aswell.

So, made a new slingshot from a natural eucalypt fork. As you can see, it works. Good food, harvested humanely. The skin is salted and in the freezer awaiting fleshing and tanning, the meat is in the freezer awaiting a pot luck dinner with friends. Also, 1 less bloody pest floating around, so win, win and win!
Tip 87.
Dont beat on metal with the back of your axe. Chances are it hasnt been specifically hardened to take the strain, and you could end up deforming or cracking the eye on your axe.
