I don’t want to turn into a tumblr feminazi (I already did that earlier today haha) but wasn’t he a bit… erm… nice-guy-ish with her? He got really angry about her not wanting to be with him.

Well originally Duckie did get the girl and you can tell it was set up that way.  She liked that weasely guy but they never had anything in common outside of them digging each other's appearances. He was embarrassed of her and was the ultimate asshole. I'm not going to say Duckie was perfect but he was really hurt by it all in a childish sort of way, that's why he reacted the way that he did. I think it was ten times worse because he knew the sort of people that particular guy hung out with, it wasn't so much class, it was the lack of class they had. He defended her honor against James Spader's character when Blane never had the balls to. The ending always made no sense to me, he didn't really apologize, she just went to the dance alone and then started making out outside???? Zero sense to me.
