4 Bobs, Playgrounds, Mentawai Islands A fun, rippable right-hander situated on the East side of Karangmajat island. Looking at any aerial map of its location, you’d think it was extremely fickle! However, although relatively short, it’s pretty consistent and always a fun spot to ride. Breaking over a shallow reef (watch out for the "four bobs" of reef at low tide) the wave offers two to three opportunities for turns. Although Four Bobs isn’t the reason you’d travel to the Mentawai islands, it’s certainly a fun and playful wave at least for a surf or two.

Kai Dua Surf Charter Boat, Mentawai Islands Built in 2013, The Kaimana 2 (aka "Kai Dua") is a large Indonesian motor boat with plenty of modern amenities & safety features you’d expect from a premium surf charter in the Mentawai region. This impressive 75’ vessel had a full refit in 2019 as well as an additional upgrade with a 22' speedboat (200hp) that is perfect for wave exploration when the charter boat is anchored up at a break. Kai Dua also boasts a covered (and uncovered) "huge" outside deck as well as an additional deck towards the front of the charter boat. Inside is fully a/c to keep its guests cool.

The Peak, Krui, Sumatra Short intense tube just outside the town of Krui in Southern Sumatra. More of a bodyboard wave, an uber hollow right with the occasional left offers memorable and fun sessions, especially when the more exposed breaks are big!

The boat is a beast & is everything you'd expect from a high end surf charter boat, so its with some surprise that its such an affordable option in the mid price range bracket. We expect that pricing will increase in years to come, but for now, the Sola Gracia remains as one of the best value for money charters currently operating in Indonesia. Perfect for groups of 10 or 11, trips are typically from April until October (main season) although there are great waves all year. 

Treasure Island is well known to be one of Indonesia’s most celebrated right hand reef breaks. With lengthy rides of over 200 metres long with three consistent tube sections - it-s no wonder that this remote outpost of north west Sumatra lives up to the hype.  Treasures requires a large swell to work and is a relatively user friendly, very perfect, mechanical right hander, best surfed around head high and bigger.  The wave truly has it all, from soft almond-shaped faces, easy tubes, challenging sections, all set against a mouth watering backdrop to something similar to that of Jurassic Park. The Indicators further out from the point also turn on during larger swells, as does Minis & Gorillas found further inside the bay. 

Roxies, Mentawai Islands Roxies is a very fun wave that everyone seems to like. Its located 45 mins South of the Macaronis camp - and towards the very southern end of the Mentawai islands. It prefers some west in the swell and is pretty consistent from small to medium sized pulses that frequent the area. When it’s small it’s a top turn machine - but as the swell increases, this wave really comes alive offering beautiful barrels in dream like fashion. Many travelling surfers have compared this wave to a "Macas in reverse" due its synchronised shape & perfect rhythm.

Macaronis Right, Mentawai Islands Macaronis little brother aka KFC's is found across the bay from the left.  Ideal on a higher tide with a north wind, this noteworthy wave is so often overlooked it's almost a tragedy. Maca's right is often at its best when Macaronis is doing it’s thing and amongst the excitement will largely go unnoticed. But this wave can certainly dish up the goods, certainly around the head high range - running down the reef producing both barrel sections and fun walls to throw some turns on. So if you fancy surfing alone or with a handful of others, then check out the right, you might be surprised with what you find.

Within walking distance from Macaronis resort, you'll find Fish Fingers, a perfect beginner wave. A long, perfect right-hand beach break that works from waist-high to well overhead, on south swells that are frequent in this area. And whats more, beginners are welcome to use the resorts soft tops free of charge but also have the option of taking some surf lessons.
