Every June, the LGBTQ+ community and its allies commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969 with Pride events all over the world. These celebrations remember the profound work of LGBTQ+ activists in the march towards civil rights and the pursuit of equality, and they look ahead to a world where love is love. Pride is a dream too big to bear alone.

YOI Pride Week is a theme week dedicated to celebrating the tradition of Pride. We invite you to reflect, remember, and celebrate with us by creating fanwork featuring the popular anime Yuri!!! On Ice which honors the LGBTQ+ experience: be it from a journey of self-discovery, and ‘coming out’, to the joy that can come from belonging within a community, to the relief and exultation of owning our own voices, to share your interpretation, adaptation, or re-imagined edition of the show in a way that expresses Pride.

Yuri!!! on Ice Pride Week will run from June 24th - 30th, 2018.

For Pride Week, we have chosen to shape our prompts around the rainbow flag, one of the most recognizable symbols for the LGBTQ+ community. Our alternate prompts for each day pay homage to Gilbert Baker, the flag’s original designer, who envisioned each colour carrying its own special meaning which reflected the many facets of the community he loved.

Like, you know how many times I’ve been talking to a guy and I’ve already decided that when we hang out I’d down to mess around, only for the guy to start talking super graphically or send me a picture of his dick–and then literally all desire I had for him went out the windows.

I started talking to a guy on tinder.  He was funny, flirty and super nice even though he wasn’t really my type. Most importantly, he was completely respectful. He managed to let me know he thought I was attractive, and that he was interested in me, without ever saying anything gross, asking for pictures or asking for sex. We met up for drinks and talked for hours and I realized I was more attracted to him than I initially thought . Not only did I sleep with him on the first date, but I’ve hooked up with him multiple times after that. The first time, he didn’t make any assumptions. We hung out, started making out and then he asked me if I wanted to stay the night. That was it. He STILL has never asked me for a nude, or sent me some overtly sexual message or picture. 

But SOMEHOOOW I still want to have sex with him.

Conversely, I started talking to another guy on tinder today. On our FIRST conversation, he has mentioned my boobs 3 times, invited me over to “watch a movie” (he added the quotes, not me), suggested a fwb set up and just asked for nudes.

Okay so here’s the thing. I love dogs. Dogs are amazing wonderful creatures. But we have to stop acting like dogs are perfect, or safe to be around every one and every thing.

I just watched a gif of a man walking his dog when they came upon kittens. The dog immediately lunged - only to have the mother cat barrel in and scare the dog off. I was furious, because the owner sat and watched as his dog lunged at a kitten - and had to be beaten off of it by its mother.

In the comments people were discussing it, saying “That dog just wanted to play! He wasn’t going to actually *hurt* the kitten!”

And I’d really like us to stop this. 

“He just wants to say hi,”

“he’s just trying to play”

are two phrases commonly said by people who do not understand their dogs behavior, and make excuses for them.

That dog did not want to play. When dogs want to play, they change their body language and start using different behavior - most obviously the play bow. They sniff first, and get introductions out of the way. If your dog lunges for something the moment they set its eyes on it - they do not want to play. Just imagine, if you were a kid who had never met someone before and they just straight up attacked you. That would be different from someone walking up and saying “hey, do you wanna play/wrestle?”

And here’s the thing. There’s nothing wrong with that dog, it just should not be allowed around animals smaller than it. Cats, hamsters, rabbits, hedgehogs, even toy breeds of dogs, I wouldn’t consider safe. And thats OK! You can have a perfectly happy life with your dog never harming any animals as long as you know this and make sure to pay attention. But if that dog harms a kitten or other small animal, I blame the owner, who should have known better.

We have to be responsible owners and know our dogs. And as people, we need to stop making excuses for other animals and instead do our best to make sure everyone in the situation is safe, not just the dog who “just wants to play” or “was just trying to say hi”, while barreling straight for something.

It got to the point where I started to develop a (slight) fear of dogs there. It was like I was watching over my shoulder every time because it generally happened at least once a visit.

I don’t know dog body language, so sometimes they’d be barking or growling and full out running at me. Even now, I don’t really know how to judge whether they’re aggressive or playful. Sometimes it was just a big dog barreling at me, and I never knew what to do other than stand there and wait to see what happened.

It was way too common for me to ask the owner to please get their dog, and for them to either think I was being ridiculous or to not even apologize. One day there were three dogs, and they managed to come up behind me without me realizing until they were close and nearly knock me over. I started crying, and the owner – who didn’t see it because the dogs ran ahead – thought I was absolutely crazy.  “They’re just being friendly,” he told me.

And like I get it, they trust their dogs and know they wouldn’t hurt anyone, but I can’t judge that, and I also just sometimes want experiences without dogs doing that.

That money literally comes out of my paycheck. I’m struggling to pay my mortgage and still be able to feed myself, let alone my bills, medication, or even just A Nice Thing every once in a while.

(All of that is from two or three days, by the way. I could go on.)

They are typically fairly young, around 12-21, and are not in hard spots in life. The mall I work for stocks some fairly high end products, so these things that these shitheels take are not necessities. They’re things like iPhones, makeup, jewelry, expensive clothes, and the like. They don’t need these things, and we know this because after we arrest their dumb ass we check their record with the police to determine what we will do with them.

One case I had to handle was a group of girls stealing hundreds of dollars in goods from stores that their friends worked at. They exploited the trust of their friends so they could get some fucking yoga pants. Upon my arrival and speaking to the shopkeep, it was decided that I would let them off the hook so long as the merchandise was to be returned. They returned most of it, but STILL stole from their friend’s store. Last I heard, they got busted trying the same stunt elsewhere, one of these idiots is currently in County.

Many of them, once caught, are already running a record as long as my fucking arm, and here in Utah retail theft cam escalate to a felony. Meaning, after enough reported cases of a person stealing goods (either by arrest or if they have video evidence of the person stealing) or after a certain dollar amount stolen the crime is moved from misdemeanor to felony and is punished as such.

In this post, a faerie is asking for ‘your’ name. The way he is wording it, however, and the accompanying beckoning motion, makes it seem as though he is asking for you to physically hand your name over. Which, because of how some faeries operate, he is.

In this instance, saying your name aloud to the fae would be literally giving your name over to him, the exact consequences of which are left up to the imagination–usually, a fae even knowing your name gives it some measure of power over you, but giving something your name would likely let it completely take over your life.
