Supercake Studio

I found this story in a book of Santeria folklore, of all places; I changed the setting to the modern-day US because there was no way I could depict the original without a zillion cultural errors, but otherwise it's pretty much the same. Still kind of appropriative? Yeah, but in fairness, this folktale had some... really evocative imagery.

I don’t just do visual stuff at Supercake Studio - I write stories as well, though they don’t tend to get quite as much attention. Here’s three of my favorites (click the links for the pdfs.)

Aphrodite - a contemporary romance with a slight sci-fi twist. Angie and Corrie are trying to rekindle their marriage by participating in a trial for a libido-boosting drug, but it turns out to boost more than just their sexual appetites.

The Glen of the Alseids - a fantasy about nymphs living in a land of plenty, and what happens when a hungry troll gets wind of their soft, plump society.

Not Like The Other Girls

Eleanor Ellis is one of the fellas

She wants to make that very clear

She doesn’t care about makeup or diets

She’d rather have burgers and beer.

Eleanor Ellis chows down with relish

And finishes up with a belch

Any rumor she cares about chick flicks or shoes

Is a rumor she’ll rapidly squelch.

Eleanor Ellis is quick to embellish

The failings of all other girls

Feminist bimbos who probably love Twilight

And don’t know the joys of cheese curls.

Eleanor Ellis knows you’re just jealous

And she doesn’t care what you think

Guys like her because she’s authentically real

And she doesn’t own anything pink.

Eleanor Ellis—perhaps overzealous

at hitting the burgers and  brew.

Yes, Eleanor Ellis is one of the fellas

and she now outweighs most of them, too.

Eleanor Ellis is doing as well as

she can with the body she’s got,

but the guys who hate girls who are focused on weight

say she needs to lose weight to be hot.

Eleanor Ellis groans “What the hell is

the trick of appealing to men?”

(It’s easy, just don’t care a bit about looks,
