Narrative Strategies Story
Narrative Strategies Story:
The first thing I noticed about the college students was a common familiarity between them. Whether it was their hair colour, their noses, or possibly their eyes I couldn’t say for certain. I only knew it was there.
I would see these students I didn’t recognise come floating down the corridor, swaying between the herds of students who are hurrying along to their next lesson, these strange students where drastically paler, it it like they are almost translucent in comparison. I started to become more curious about these people. As my curiosity grew into obsession, I began to hear whispers whenever they were near, the words were impossible to understand, but my body trembled at the echoing sound.
One of these strange students in particular kept grabbing my attention, a boy named Matt, he was always alone, preferring solitude. I could always tell when Matt was around, it felt like I was being followed. I felt a cold sweat take over whenever I saw him at the end of the corridor. I’m a logical person preferring to think things though clearly, but this messed me up, I could not think straight. I needed answers and I didn’t have to wait long.
I came home to find Matt on my doorstep. I was never one for confrontation, I preferred to hide how I felt, then deal with it later but, I could tell form his face this wasn’t an option, reluctantly I lead him up to my room.
‘Who are they?’ The words felt like they had been ripped from my throat.
‘Have you not figured it out by now, my dear Seth?’ Matt says ‘ Seth, you look with your eyes but do not observe. You’ve managed to miss the most important thing. We are all you.’
It felt like a stab to the chest.
‘How/ I’m me, I am the only me…’ My brain was working over time, none of this was making sense. The atmosphere felt different, I felt caged in like I was surrounded by lots of familiar presences that I could not see but I have no doubt were there.
‘Do not panic, we are your protectors, your guardians, we are all you and you are all of us’ I felt nauseous. I watched as he slowly turned and his face began to change. Mopping before my eyes, those familiar features were undeniable. I felt my heart stop altogether. There before me stood an exact replica of myself; tall and strong, a confidence I can’t remember myself ever having and as quickly as he changed, he was gone from my room.
My eyes caught a glimpse of the mirror that sat on my door, and the selection showed me sitting alone on my bed. I did not feel as alone as I looked.
This is my finished story I am really happy with it I was finally able to get it under the word count which I am super pleased with. I am glad I got it finished and I feel I have learnt so much whist writing this story and I have been able to improve my writing skill a lot. Â
