hey diary??? Its me, yuji. but im sure u knew that already. anyways its been years since i last wrote in this. I hope you didn’t miss me much. I think the last time we “talked” was back in the 7th grade when megumi and i got grounded for skipping sixth period. I still stand by our decision. Its not everyday that a new human earthworm movie comes out! just saying. so, today is our first day of school, and i swear im gonna make this our best year yet. megumi said he’d be here by 8, so i gtg. but maybe ill update you later. see ya update: today was pretty solid. megumi and i only have like 3 classes togther, but its fine cuz i made a shit ton of friends today. theres this guy, todo! hes chill and he says we are gonna be great friends because we have the same type in girls.. idk isn’t that kinda weird? whatever, things will be fine. I honestly hope megumi makes some friends this year, i hate to see him alone all the time. now that i think about it, todo and panda already invited me out, so  ill have to cancel plans with M after all. Its fine tho, i think tsumiki is coming home from college this weekend.

coach says tryouts are next week, but i’m too stressed to even think about it right now. everyday after school, i wait at the tree, only for megumi to never show up. seriously what is going on? so as any good friend does, I check up on him. I went to his 6th period and he wasn't even there! by this point im panicking, bc where the hell could he be? But then i see the teacher’s face and i know exactly what happened. Why does he do this to me? trust that when i see him in my nightmares i'll make sure to give him a piece of my mind. when i got to the principals office, whaddaya know, there he is sitting on the plastic bench with ice to his knuckles. the jerk decided to beat some kid up for a reason he "refuses to disclose." fine. do as you want, but don’t come crawling back to me when u finally get hurt.

im losing my mind. tryouts are closer than ever and i haven’t talked to my best friend in two days. the longest weve ever gone was like 24 hours when he got sick in elementary and i snuck over, only for us to both end up with the flu. no complaints though, we stayed up all night in his bed playing super mario bros! damn. i really do miss him. he thinks im mad at him for wednesday, but i just havent gotten around to seeing him with the occult club activities this week. I see him in class in his ripped blue jeans and i wonder how he pays the girls floating around him no attention. he thinks IM covered in chicks?? no, UR covered in chicks. either way, none of us have ever bagged. guess we both suck with the ladies. wait im honestly just going to shoot him a text, maybe invite him over so we can fix this yk

get this: tryouts are tomorrow and I haven’t slept in a day. not that bad? NOO. actually, horrible. megumi and i are good now and he’s been sleeping over to help me practice, but its just not enough. Sure, we grind for like 2 hours but then when its time to go to bed, we stay up all night talking, playing pranks on todo, or with me trying to convince him to make me his famous meatballs. hey, im a growing boy and he really should be feeding me more. anyway like i said, not a wink of shut eye. I hope god hears our prayers, or that gojo bribes the coach with his position. thanks megumi, ur "caregiver" is a real one. all jokes, please don't take me

guess who just made it to the varsity baseball team? me! me! me! megs says he knew i could do it, to which i laughed in his face. before he dropped me off, he told me, and i quote “I’ll be here when it doesn’t work out.” gee, thanks bro. after tryouts i saw some of the girls from the sophomore class looking at us as we walked home. I think kurusu likes him, maybe ill bring it up at dinner

I love seeing him in the stands, it means a lot. I told him he didn’t have to wait for me afterschool anymore and he just shrugged and told me he didn’t mind waiting, which is funny, because last time i checked he’s hella impatient. guess im just special like that, huh? I do my best when i know hes looking, which feels like all the time. and if i hit a homerun i look up just to make sure he saw. of course, every single time, he does too. I like to think that we know eachother like the back of our hands, and im determined to keep it that way forever. or for as long as he’ll have me. I have other friends, like inumaki or panda, but none compare to him. I truly think hes my soulmate, has been since we were 4. my best friend.

I think megumi might be gay? actually i’m not sure. todo met him for the first time yesterday and when he asked his type, he wasn’t really specific and kinda left the door open for anyone. either way, i still care about him and want him to be happy. although, i will say a part of my heart will probably break the day he gets a girlfriend. he's supposed to be mine forever haha!

Thanksgiving is coming up, but im not in the holiday spirit. sure, i have plenty of friends but there is only one that matters. there is only one who sneaks out with me at night, one that lets me drag him to the theaters, and one that fights people at the skatepark for me. before you say it, ik. I was pretty pissed that he got himself destroyed, but he promised me he would stop, so i guess ill back off. like i said previously, every monday and thursday, rain or shine, he waits for me in the stands until practice is over. I look forward to the moments after practice when we run to the convenience store and he complains about the way i smell. Its comfortable banter, the rhythm of our relationship. so when i tell u i want nobara dead, i mean it. she's some hillbilly from the countryside who moved to our class last week. as the class representative, I usually come up to them and introduce them to our school. that’s how i make some good friends. Its all about connections, baby. so, back to what i was saying. Yes, i hate her. at first she was sweet, until she set her sights on my best friend. you know how megumi usually keeps to himself? ya, so not anymore, i guess.  i was overjoyed when she started to talk to him in class because i want him to get along with more people. but then she started popping up EVERYWHERE. It began with class, then moved to lunch, and then megumi started going to her house afterschool instead of mine. that’s cool, that’s fine. what really hurt me though, was when she started entering the sacred space that was the baseball stands. two became three and before i knew it, our exchanged smiles after homeruns were gone. I would look for megumi’s approval every time, only to see him engrossed in whatever she was saying. since she came around, m and i haven’t hung out nearly as much. And tbh it seems to be affecting me way more than its affecting him. I now realize how fucked it was for me to ditch plans with him to hang with todo somewhere. If only i knew what i knew now, I would do everything over again.

Its Thanksgiving, and i’m grateful for my family. Im currently in my bed as i write this, mourning memories of past thanksgivings with megumi. this is actually the first thanksgiving we’ve spent apart. I’m not gonna lie to you, i’m pretty sure hes with nobara right now. I heard them making plans before we went on thanksgiving break. I wonder if hes into her? I guess there’s no more time for “us” anymore. If it weren’t for her, would we still be together?

today, I received a letter.I think I just heard my heart break.

to relive those memories was both a painful and sweet experience. by now, yuji had taken his place on the bench of the garage, and time just passed him by. he liked to think he was out there for an hour, but in actuality it was probably two. even with his pink hair growing alongside white strands, he could still recall the way he cried the night of the tenth of June. rummaging through the cardboard box, he found it: two tickets to Human Earthworm 5 taped to a photo of two boys with toothless grins. “dramatic,” he thought. before he could put the items away where they belong, slow footsteps approached him. sheepishly, he looked up to see megumi with his arms crossed and lips pursed. “you do realize we are 30 minutes late to the baby shower, right?” shamelessly, the 68 year old smiled at his husband, and let out a meek “sorry baby.” maybe things worked out, after all.
