If Disney hadn’t screwed up Pocahontas and John smiths personalities and remembered the entire point of why Pocahontas didn’t want to marry kocoum in the first movie pansy Rolfe wouldn’t have even been an option, thank you for coming to my ted talk

I’m genuinely convinced that team Rolfe forgot the entire point of why Pocahontas didn’t want to marry kocoum in the first movie

In love triangles there’s sometimes the trope where the first guy is a toxic red flag then the second guy is a green flag but with Pocahontas John smith and pansy Rolfe it’s kinda the reverse where the first guy (John smith) is a green flag then the second guy (John Rolfe) (or pansy if we’re being more accurate) is a red flag

Ok I’ve seen one of team rolfe’s most common arguments for being team rolfe is “pansy rolfe gave up his job for Pocahontas omg he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread” and it’s like for one thing John smith literally almost died taking a bullet for Pocahontas’s father so sorry but taking a bullet for your girlfriends father is a lot more meaningful than abandoning a job (and keep in mind it’s a job that he never implied he didn’t like) but honestly when you think about it his decision isn’t genuine Or meaningful and here’s why. First off he never gave any implication that he was unhappy with his current life as a snobby wealthy materialistic aristocrat or that he was unhappy in England (and I’m sorry but anyone with one functioning brain cell can figure out that a snobby wealthy materialistic aristocrat isn’t going to be happy living a more simple life and a more simple life where he’ll have to hunt for his own food and do his own work and won’t have any servants waiting on him hand and foot). Second he also never showed any interest in Pocahontas’s culture and never took the time to learn more about her culture so his decision to just abandon a job and life that he never implied he was unhappy with makes zero sense and doesn’t feel like a remotely genuine show of affection when you actually think about it.

The fact that I can debunk every anti John smith/ pro pansy Rolfe argument proves that John smith is better than pansy Rolfe

I honestly don’t get the “omg pansy Rolfe gave up his career and life as a snobby wealthy aristocrat for Pocahontas he clearly cares about her more than John smith does” argument for a few reasons. For one red flag Rolfe never gave any implication that he isn’t happy with his current life as a snobby wealthy aristocrat. Two he never shows any interest in Pocahontas’s culture and never takes the time to learn more about her culture and three anyone with at least one functioning brain cell can figure out that a snobby wealthy aristocrat like pansy rolfe isn’t going to be happy living a more simple life where he has to do his own work and hunt for his own food so his decision to leave with Pocahontas (when he never showed any interest in her culture and never took the time to learn more about her culture)feels out of the blue and honestly doesn’t feel remotely genuine

It’s funny whenever some idiot says they like that Disney decided to break up Pocahontas and John smith “because it’s realistic” (for one if anyone’s stupid enough to think Pocahontas choosing red flag Rolfe over smith was remotely realistic those boneheads clearly missed why she didn’t want to marry kocoum in the first movie and considering that there’s a talking tree in the movie ending up with your first love sounds pretty realistic in comparison) because I’m sure if Disney gave they’re favorite couple the Pocahontas and John smith sequel treatment I doubt those boneheads would have the same “I like that Disney broke up a couple because it’s realistic” bologna

It really has never once occurred to team Rolfe that I (and anyone else with a functioning brain) call John Rolfe a red flag because is a red flag shocking concept I know

Maybe it’s the sane reasonable logical person in me but if you don’t have a problem with red flag Rolfe sitting on his ass when Pocahontas is imprisoned literally about to die then you shouldn’t have a problem with John smith calling Pocahontas and her people savages once (especially considering the fact that he literally only does it once and immediately stops and never does it again after realizing how wrong it is)
