layover
I’m on a plane between places
on my way but all I want
is to be where you are
no matter the time zones
or the missed calls
I do the math wondering
if you’re awake or dreaming,
is it sunny where you are?
I cannot sleep and it’s not the jetlag
but the heartache pulling me to your back
drawing myself around the curve of you
a question mark waiting for your reply.
I’m on a plane between phase shifts
on my way but I don’t know where I’m headed
no matter the time changes or the delays,
the redeyes or the missed connections
I set my course and pack light
ready for takeoff and wandering
my way back into daydreaming
hoping it’s sunnier where I’m headed.
I finally sleep for days and days
awaken to feeling alive again
somewhere new but somehow
I’ve been here before,
the universe rings buzzing
and I answer its call.
