Helaena’s suicide ALWAYS should have been about what happened to her young son. I’m tired of the show purposely dancing around the subject. Helaena’s son didn’t just die, he was murdered at the order of Daemon Targaryen. At the beginning of the season helaena is captured and dragged into the throne room to see her grandfather dead, his head cut off just like her baby boy and daemon standing over his body. She spends the season locked in a room in the same castle the killing took place in, her son’s killer is now king consort and the sister she was taught to see as a threat is now queen. On top of all that, they took her daughter from her. In every interaction Helaena has with Rhaenyra she is at best, impatient with her, this would do nothing to put her at some sort of ease that her and her daughter would be safe. Helaena being pregnant could have been the perfect opportunity for Helaena to voice her fears of another son dying a violent death. Her one to one conversations with Rhaenyra were also an opportunity to actually have a helaena bring up the fact that her son was killed in Rhaenyra’s name. They even could’ve had Alicent bring it up when she told Rhaenyra if Helaena’s vulnerable state. It felt like the show was actively trying not to mention Jaehaerys’s murder towards the end of the season. Helaena just wanted a peaceful life with her children and ended up experiencing this most traumatic event a parent can go through. RIP Helaena, you deserved better.

nettles only survived because she got away from the whole of society, because society was horrified at the sight of a black, poor, uneducated woman having undeniable proof that she is as smart and as worthy of having a dragon as all the other valyrian royals. that’s why she had to go.
