thinking about how helaena was born dead ⌠how long has she been dreaming of her own death? whether it was by her hand or rhaenyraâs. did she dream of dying with her boy? with aegon? she probably always knew sheâd never see aegon sit the iron throne again. from the beginning of season 3 she knew alicent wouldnât be with her at the end. helaena spent her life trapped in the red keep made to squeeze out heirs. alicent as much as she loved her doomed her to that life and rhaenyra was going to do it again. as much as she wanted to see aegon and her babies again there was no way out for her sheâd die on the birthing bed like rhaenyraâs mother or with her dragon like laena. death was always coming for her she just chose to meet him.
rhaenyra is a glaring racist. she vocally supports valyrian eugenics/supremacy and this is treated as a good thing. she literally thinks she is a GOD because of her race and uses religion as a weapon by distorting its message. she sexually assaults a lowborn brown man (very clearly immigrant coded) and this is supposed to a moment of 'liberation' because it is supposedly feminist. she uses mysaria for her pleasure and then discards her once she has a voice of her own. she believes herself better than the velaryons, even though they are of the same descent. in the book, she tries to get a black teenager killed because her husband can't contain his attraction to minors. and this is the 'queen'
and she quite literally says her half siblings as unable to fulfill the prophecy because their mother isnât valyrian, and dismisses them as âthe hightower lineâ. she also kills her distant relatives in the red sowing and mistreats the dragonseeds, denying them basic freedoms, denies the velaryons of hull their fatherâs name, and blames her step daughter for her sonâs choices.
itâs really fucking aggravating how nobody can be a victim but rhaenyra. alicent is too complicit and thatâs all sheâll ever be, despite doing everything rhaenyra asks this season. baela and helaena should be grateful to their Supreme Leader instead of having autonomy and pushing back at her knowing sheâs the reason why their families have been harmed or, worse, murdered. mysaria should feel comforted knowing she was used for her body one last time before being exiled because at least she got gold like the whore she always was. but rhaenyra having men hold helaena down to force feed her? thatâs kindness 𼺠what was she supposed to doooo guyssss 𼺠shes only thirtyteen years old đĽş
As much as he's aware and has a clear understanding of when Ormund's about to go, he can't help but stay around just in case he gets that love or admiration. Like at the end of episode four, after he's killed a man, he gets that sense of affection from Ormund. There's something kind of twisted where he knows, morally, what he's done, but he also longs for this kind of affection. // He would look at me with literally misty eyes, and I could see the love and the need. Tbh, that entire saga is emblematic of F&B's core problem; a story with a predetermined conclusion. Rhaenyra has to lose in cannon, and given the advantages she has, it seems absurd she would. So George introduces a few contrivances to let this happen. Cregan being delayed is one of them. Really? It took you the entire war to haul ass? It's similar to the Gullet and the Storming of the Dragon Pit, Aemond's burning of the Riverlands etc. George just ignores logic and sometimes even his own lore to justify a certain outcome.
creganâs âlate comingâ is code for âreally didnât want to fight for the blacks but didnât want to be known as an oathbreakerâ. there is no way he was up there counting inventory for the winter because in the regency of aegon iii the boltons of all people were asking aegon for food, so cregan did a shit job at preparing for winter. he also said he would fight oldtown, stormâs end and casterly rock but all he did was executing aegon iiâs killers and marry a woman he found hot, then fucked off.
rhaenyra's supporters were too scared to fight cole up close despite outnumbering him so they chose to shoot him with arrows from afar and im supposed to believe he didn't die with honor? cole had more honor in his final moments than all the cowards surrounding him combined

you know, as much as i would've loved to see book rhaenyra on screen - someone who is more unapologetically angry and vengeful, someone who wants power just because she can and not bc "the gods/some fairytale my dad told me said that i must" - i will admit the writers are inadvertently doing a pretty good job at establishing her as not only a privileged, out of touch brat, but also the reckless tyrant she became in the book - the one that the smallfolk eventually revolted against.
lengthy, anti rhaenyra think piece incoming. if you try to defend her in my comments i'm deleting them and blocking you. this is an ANTI rhaenyra post and i'm not arguing with you; if you wanna glaze her, make your own separate post.
i. rhaenyra triumphant vs queens landing
rhaenyra taking kings landing in the book is the payoff for the pain and loss that she has suffered up to this point. after jace, her resolve to get her throne is hardened and she does whatever it takes to get it. she's not sitting on the sidelines while everyone else does the menial and inconvenient stuff for her. that's why it's called rhaenyra TRIUMPHANT.
queens landing, on the other hand, is not a "triumphant" moment for her, because she hasn't done jack shit to earn it. she has spent most of the war cooped up on dragonstone lamenting about her gender and how everyone is against her, meanwhile the real labor (i.e. scouting the skies, managing conflict in her own council, fighting battles) got offloaded onto jace, baela, rhaenys, etc. her 16 year old son and step daughter were literally having to manage HER conflicts themselves bc she decided to run off and see her ex-bestie without telling anyone, endangering her own safety without a care in the world because for some reason, she still thinks that she can just ask alicent and the greens to give up their power and they will bc she's the one true queen and then boom, the war is over. she seriously thinks that even after a four year old was murdered in his bed by her own faction, the greens will simply forgive and forget and give her what she wants because she wants it; that is the thinking of a spoiled brat who has never been told no in her entire life.
speaking of show!alicent, she is literally the reason that rhaenyra faced minimal confrontation when entering the red keep. daemon did a 1v10 on anyone who stepped in her way while rhaenyra stood clutching her sword, looking horrified that you actually have to kill people who pose a threat to you in a system where "you win or you die". alicent and daemon basically handed rhaenyra the throne. the one time she is asked to do the bare minimum of asserting her status as queen by beheading otto (something that book rhaenyra would have done without mercy or hesitation), it makes sense that she's snot nosed and sobbing. this is the first time that she is actually being forced to do something for herself; it's the first time that daemon says "no, i'm not doing your dirty work for you. do it yourself if you're serious about being queen."
and once she finally gets what she wants? she realizes that being queen is actually a RESPONSIBILITY, and not just a title that gets you everything you want and acts as a "get out of jail free" card for your own reckless actions. for the first time in her life, she has to interact with people who aren't her servants or family/council members, people who are actually gonna demand that she does something for them and not just kiss her ass at every turn, people who have suffered while she lived in luxury and privilege, and she realizes quickly that she is way in over her head.
ii. no, she's not a champion for the smallfolk
the solutions she provides for the smallfolk's hunger and economic struggles are half measures that she came up with in a spur of the moment, hence why they don't provide any lasting relief. it's just empty promises that she will make things better if they just wait a little longer and one or two grand gestures of giving out food that, to quote torrhen manderly, will only temporarily make them forget that SHE is the reason that they starved to begin with. and basically stealing from her wealthier subjects in order to provide these fleeting gifts was an act of political suicide. that's the easiest way to turn your allies against you. but of course, how could anyone expect rhaenyra to form a well planned, sustainable solution to the smallfolks problems when the closest she has come to interacting with them is her servants?
she responds to her subjects concerns regarding safety and food and resource scarcity with "you don't understand, the evil hightowers are plotting against me". girl, you are the single most powerful and rich person in the realm right now. you have never known an empty stomach, you have always had nice clothes and a clean bed and access to more resources than all of your subjects. you are not being persecuted just bc you have political enemies, and for her to say this to people who have been starved by HER blockade as if it's a fair comparison highlights how out of touch she is.
while characters like alicent took an active role as queen and got involved in court when she was young, hence forming the knowledge and soft skills that it takes to solve these problems, rhaenyra ran away from kings landing bc a few nobles were mean to her by acknowledging the obvious truth about her sons' bastardy. she bemoans that she was taught "the name of every lord and castle" but not how to use a sword, yet she does NOTHING to try to learn any of the skills she will actually need as queen. of course, she expects that others should've done the labor of teaching her. she wants the power that comes with being queen but god forbid she does even one thing to actually secure that position.
this entitlement and overconfidence in her abilities leads her to make multiple choices that are not only political suicide, but show other people that she is a selfish ruler. she hasn't found lasting relief for her people because she's too busy whining that she didn't get a big coronation like aegon did. maybe if you'd stop preaching to everyone around you about how the gods chose you to rule, then you'd have more time to actually give your subjects lasting relief! her acting like the baratheons were personally responsible for protecting her son who, mind you, flew over to THEIR land to ask them to get involved in a needless war and give rhaenyra their support, whilst having NOTHING to give them in return. at least the greens gave them a marriage pact. her then disguising assassins as baratheons in an attempt to kill daeron, after telling alicent "you know i would've spared him". one, that plan was as foolish as cole sending erryk to assassinate rhaenyra. two, CLEARLY YOU WOULDN'T HAVE SPARED HIM.
iii. modern implications
condal and hess are obviously trying to make rhaenyra look always morally pure and absolve her of any and all wrongdoing, even if it means making her politically incompetent, but i'll credit them with this: they accidentally made her character into a perfect social commentary on the ultra wealthy. i believe that all media is in some way influenced by the period, politics, and place where it's created, and as a usamerican i see multiple parallels between rhaenyra and the rich elites who live in luxury while most citizens struggle to survive every day. and ironically enough, it's mostly people who understand these real world implications and claim to be on the side of progress who are fawning the most ardently over a spoiled monarch who wouldn't have cared less about them if she was real.
the biggest forms of opression in history have been class divides, racism (white supremacy) and sexism, in that order. just because a rich white woman is not granted automatically the highest amount of power in her world doesnât make her oppressed. mind you, even for a targaryen princess she is privileged, she had the chance to have a claim to the throne, which is something that no other princess had before or after, she just had to work for it a bit.
rhaenyra is an ultra rich white woman, she wonât ever find common ground with the poor, disadvantaged women. she canât even find common ground with the class of noble women who are below her in station. she believes herself the most high, a gift from the gods, from a family that already believes themselves to be more godlike than human. that is not a champion for the little guy, that is a megalomaniac.
thereâs not an universe where that woman finds herself on top of the world and decides to make things better for the poor people in whose labor she depends or the women who have to be oppressed for her to be the exception.
