Masterlist
TW: language and mention of the spicy
It’s the first time she’s woken up in another dorm than her own. Well, except for the sporadic sleepover with some friends. But she’s never felt the shame she feels now. She slowly turns around, checking Mattheo’s face for any signs of him being awake. His breathing is slow and steady. She almost wants to laugh a little bit. Contradictory to almost everything he is, does and stands for, he looks like an angel when he sleeps. It makes her feel a little bit better, but also a little bit more worse. It eats at her stomach how she knows this isn’t what she wants it to be, and she feels hollow inside. Doing this, allowing this, is just putting a band-aid on a smushed up heart, aching to make him see his own worth. She stops herself from touching his messy curls and slowly moves to sit up, and stands up from the bed. She pulls down the shirt he gave her last night and quietly gets ready in the bathroom. When she returns, she puts the carefully folded shirt over the backrest of his desk chair. There’s still no sign of him waking up any time soon. She looks at her phone, and then at Mattheo. It’s already bad enough they totally missed breakfast. Putting on her shoes, she tries to decide whether to wake him up. Does she care enough? No, yeah she does. But, would it be smart to let him know she cares that much? Probably not.
“Jeez, someone’s in a hurry to do the walk of shame.” She can’t help but instantly roll her eyes at the sound of his utterly captivating but still so incredibly annoying voice. She tightens the laces of her right shoe extra hard and stands up. His face is buried in the pillow again.
“I have nothing to be ashamed of, Riddle. Do you?” Before he can answer, she quickly adds, “Besides, we missed breakfast. Class starts in 10 minutes.” He throws his hand up in a dismissive gesture that looks like a wave.
“Fuck class.” He then smiles smugly and turns his head to face her, “I’d rather have that ass.” She bites the inside of her cheek for a second to stop herself from laughing.
“You wish.” He closes his eyes with a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
“Mhm, I do wish.”
“Not happening.” Mattheo chuckles and opens his eyes.
“Oh, shut up. You were so fucking eager to make out with me. Don’t think I didn’t notice, darling. And then you expect me to believe you aren’t dying to sleep with me?” He laughs, “But I gotta admit, that denial is a pretty good look on you.” See, this, this is what she doesn’t like. Who does he think he fucking is? Time to put this jerk in his place. She quickly changes her scowl to a sarcastic scoff.
“Do you ever think about the possibility that some girls use the game you’re playing to their advantage? Ever thought about that with your stupid genius brain?” He smirks and sits up on the edge of the bed, turning his head to look straight at her.
“I do. Though I think, funnily enough, you’re the only one not doing that.” His tone was also a little serious, as if he didn’t think she was a total loser. She breathes out hard through her nose and hoists her backpack up her shoulder, staring right into his eyes. She wants to say something. So bad. But she can’t.
Cause he’s right.
“Bye, Riddle.”
