This sequence if you remember from page #6 if you can see by what's written was originally a montage, I had a song picked out to play here and everything. But it's also the reason why there's so much happening here since it's trying to contain a lot of information all in one page.

Now while it's not exact since things do change, during the actual art process page #9 was originally meant to be where if this was on screen you'd see the title card, along with maybe a panning shot that would transition us into the next scene.

And some things come together excellently just like page 24 here! I had a lot of ideas for how I wanted this page to come together, if it were on screen it'd look different but in the medium of a comic this flows and conveys everything excellently!

Now obviously I can't give away everything, but I wanted to go over some of the ones that I felt were the most interesting to me. I hope you guys appreciated this glimpse into my work and how

@StivnWorks helped it all come together!

Cutting Room Floor Pt. I

Creating SunnyDaze is a long process and along the way we had quite a few pages that end up going through changes. And it today's edition of Author's Notes we'll be taking a look at some of them! So strap in! So for starters Page 3! When we started with this page I had a distinct idea for now I wanted it to look but during the process I kept envisioning different ways that I wanted this to look. It was supposed to be the picture that introduced you to the character.

Here were some of the sketches of what the page almost looked like. I was going for something of a batman style looking at the city angle, but after some convincing from an old friend I decided to go with the one above.

However that's not to say that some pieces didn't very close to being put in the actual comic itself, as you can see here.

Moving right along! A few pages later down to page 7! Which had quite a few drafts here's the final version you all saw.

In one draft, Pages 7 and 8 were actually all on one page, where you would've seen Mama and Sunny's interaction as well as her leaving the building and heading into the city all in one go. But IIRC I felt this version might've been a bit busy and moved a bit too fast.

Eventually we managed to condense it down to a few panels, but we weren't done there yet as it went through a few more drafts just as well. I had a distinct vision for this page So much so that the draft on the right even had it's own page.

And while I really did like this page, my problem with it was that I felt it wasn't the kind of introduction I want the readers to have to Mama's character especially given how she's portrayed in the web-novel.

In addition to that, since this was Mama's first introduction she went through quite a few different changes too mostly in the way that her hair looked. Eventually we settled on the version on the right. But since it was her first appearance I wanted to make it accurate.

Moving right along! Page 8! This one doesn't have that many changes too it, however the main thing here was the meat of the panel. Here's the version you all saw:

So for page 8! The biggest thing I kept trying to nail down was this was supposed to be that big picture where you're literally running into adventure. But it didn't always look that way. Since the beach scene comes after this at some points it almost looked transitional.

But eventually we found something to settle on which eventually led us to the finished product, it took a few drafts but we got there in the end.

Page 8, is also the home to one of my favorite panels in the whole chapter, just look at her!

Alright lastly! Page 11! This one much like page 6 went through quite a few drafts as well. For starters it was originally going to look quite different in terms of the number of panels we had. Here's the one you all got in the final draft to start us off!

So in this draft, originally Sunny was going to look a lot more triumphant, but I sort of felt like maybe it made Sunny look a bit too strong. I was trying to sell the idea that she still feels pain, plus it felt like there might've been a bit too much going on.

On top of that I kinda felt like I wanted this to be a bit more of a character moment. So during drafting I asked if we could hold on the panel where Sunny puts up her dukes. But as you can see the pose she's in, isn't the same as how it looks in the final page.

And well that's because, at the time I didn't really have an idea for how I wanted her pose to look or knew specifically the kind of stance she'd have. So much so that this version had quite a few variants make it to the final stages. I felt like each one just didn't really fit what I was going for. And I honestly didn't know what it was until I just stumbled upon an idea that I felt looked cool enough. As far as these are concerned to put it simply, I felt like many of these didn't match the right expression for the moment. They looked either too Zany or too pained. I'd love to know your thoughts however!

Eventually we settled on the version you all saw. But I bet you didn't know that it too also had its own variations as well. Even after we got there I wasn't sure what type of expression I wanted for her that I felt properly conveyed how Sunny felt about fighting. The stance was excellent but I had to ask myself. "Just how did Sunny feel in that moment." I eventually settled on the one with her eyes open cause I think it had just the right amount of enthusiasm.

But unfortunately that's all for now! I'd show more but I feel like you guys might be exhausted just having gotten this far. I've really been enjoying making these little blogs and I'm super happy for those of you who take the time to read them! Expect Pt. II Next Week! After a long time coming, the SunnyDaze Comic has finally arrived! It's been a long journey to get here but I hope you guys enjoy you can find it at the following link, listed below. For those of you that have been following me here thank you for your continued support!

RELEASE WEEK!

Well we made it release week! After a good long time coming the first chapter will finally be dropping this thursday! I actually can't believe it! It took a lot of work but I really do hope you guys like it! And so like always STRAP IN!

Alright so, as far as this week goes, you've got the next installment of the web-novel to look forward too and another piece of promotional art that I've got cooked up for ya.

As I said I can't give a full release schedule for the comic itself since we're still working on all of the upcoming chapters. However I do hope that you guys know that going forward we'll be keeping you all updated as the process goes along.

So Thursday the 14th is the upcoming chapter release. I'll also be releasing an update on the Sunrising which is expected today!

But I'd like to say for the most part thank you everyone, this process wouldn't be as possible without you guys being here to keep me motivated! And I'll be honest I'm feeling a bit nervous as I get ready to let this rip this week. But I'm excited for your feedback on all the work we've put it.

In fact let me tell a slight story. Originally the script for this comic was written for the screen as a film script. Since as you all know I am a film student who is set to be graduating soon. However, I realized really quickly that like, making an animated film is incredibly, INCREDIBLY expensive.

But I wasn't one to quit and really wanted to tell this story so I opted to turn it into a comic book since it was cheaper. Thankfully some few years ago I met Mr.Stivn and was lucky enough to get him to assist me on this project and so I want to say around maybe September or August of Last Year we got started with the "SunnyDaze" Comic.

But as I started this promotional hype train, I realized that I didn't really have any kind of content to keep you all tied over. I didn't want to keep you guys waiting so I wanted to make something a bit different for everyone so I opted to start writing a novel. My main skill was writing and I felt it was a way for me to give you guys something to chew on while you kept waiting. And thus "Sunrising" was born.

I plan to keep doing it and eventually want to make this my livelihood one day, but I can't do this without all of you. So the fact that you guys are even looking and sharing my stuff is greatly appreciated. I've got a litaney of ideas and projects I'd like to deliver one day and I'm happy to know we've got the best fans in the world!

You guys being apart of this little Sunny community really helps out and goes along way. You guys are fantastic! I've made friends with some of you and am grateful for all the really cool people I've met.

So please, I hope that the work that me and Mr. @StivnWorks have made lives up to the hype and that you entertained by the wild ride that the first chapter takes you on.

We put a lot of time and effort into this project and my biggest hope is that you guys enjoy reading it just as much as we did making it and once again thank you!

So what's up with the title?

So this is a bit of a silly one I thought up the other week and might be a bit shorter than my usual ones. Less Author's notes and more me thinking a little bit out loud. Here so like always STRAP IN! It'll be a long one!

So for the longest time when I was working on this series I wasn't sure what to actually call this thing. In fact the current title was the title of the W.I.P for the story when I first made it and I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it.

There was a time when I changed the name of it to Sunburn which I thought was cool, I felt it was a bit catchier and even rolled off the tongue better. But then I realized something. I kinda missed the old name. This account was named after it. The email I use has this in the name this was kind of everything it was built on. SunnyDaze feels less like a title and more like the name of the project as a whole.

So I decided to change it back to its original title since it was people already knew about the actual story. But I think the one thing that I find the funniest about it. Is that it has the characters name in it. Which was one of the reasons some people told me I should keep it.

And so it just sort of stuck. "SunnyDaze." I've since had other titles for what the story in of itself should probably be but I'm hoping that eventually the title in of itself will catch on and become something a bit more meaningful or iconic to the people who read the series.

I'm still quite new to a lot of this stuff and sometimes put a good chunk of my emphasis on like marketability but I think also maybe I should slow down and just enjoy things. Is it the best title maybe not, but its indicative of what the series is meant to be and in a way I think there's some charm there.

I think sounds a little whimsical and I think may even have some interesting hooks in the story. You have the main character Sunny, and the word Daze which means to be kind of confused or a bit lost which I think could also be a bit indicative of the character as well. It may be a bit of an odd title but I think its still a nice one. I hope you guys like it at the very least.

Maybe in the future I wonder how I'll look back at this title fondly or more as a reflection of my start. I really don't know but regardless thanks for being here with me on my journey.

Well everyone today's will be short but sweet! But after several months the 1st Chapter of the Comic will be debuting on August 14th! Listed below will be the link where you can pre-follow to keep up with its release date on #NamiComi!

Going Forward:

The Comic is still in production and will be releasing gradually over the course of the year with Updates on our progress and developer diaries like these being posted on a regular basis!

The production of a comic is a long and expensive process and while I'd like to say that I can have a single chapter each month right now that isn't fully possible, since I'm funding a good deal of this comic myself.

But I promise to keep you all updated and appraised of its progress. In addition I'll still be writing web-novels in order to give you guys more content and I made sure to make this first chapter particularly beefy in terms of action and presentation to really give you guys something to sink your teeth into!

So what now?:

Well with the debut of the comic on it's way, I'm going to be showcasing some fun artwork I've gotten to help promote it! Including but not limited too: this banner that was made by Mr. @StivnWorks that you all can finally see here!

And as mentioned the "Sunrising" Novel is still being produced as well and is nearing it's climax! I'm really proud to share the comic with you guys, and am excited for you all to see all of our hard work over the last year. I'll do my best to make sure you aren't waiting as long to see the next ones, and for those of who have been here to help and support us thank you!

It's Monday again you know what that means! Time for the next edition of Author notes! Today we're going to be talking about the antagonist who's design origins have a lot more history then you all might think! STRAP IN! it's gonna be a long one enjoy!

So the villain goes by the name Blackbird and she was actually a character that I created some years ago before Sunny when the concept of this universe was in its early stages. I want to say back when I was first starting college.

The idea initially was the same as the one you'll see in the story but a bit different. Without saying too much she is still working towards a similar goal but is doing it in a different way. She was a phantom thief who's entire goal was to undermine the police department by pointing out its incompetence and in doing so tries to bring about reform to the justice system in London.

When I was coming up with the idea for Sunny's story I needed a villain and thought it would be cool to revisit her idea! Though now she's in a much different position than before and you'll see where that leads as the comic progresses!

When the character was created she was initially designed and partially inspired by Cammy White from Street Fighter its the reason why she has the long twin tails and is also a British national. In fact when I first came up with her I was listening to Cammy's theme song specifically the 3DO version if you know you know. and was like "How can I come up with a character that fits the vibe of this song."

When my artist and I began the design process I had always known what I wanted her to look like. Her name was blackbird and I always imagined that the bird motif was a bit part of her design. And I felt that this striking dark character design contrasted well with Sunny. And In a lot of ways the two are the polar opposite of each other. I'd say more but to tell you all of that here would ruin the fun of discovering it in the comic itself.

Oh and I almost forgot an additional inspirations for her character comes from that of Haytham Kenway from the Assassins Creed Franchise. Some of her mannerism I feel are quite similar to his in terms of the way she carries herself.

I also feel she may have been subconsciously inspired by Batman without really thinking about it, due to the nature of her operating mostly in the night and having kind of a sinister aesthetic.

She's a very fun character to write and one who I think has some compelling aspects to her and I absolutely love the work that was done with the design. The dark intrigue to her character, classy and sophisticated with a hint of mystery to it. There's so much I could say but I really do have to save it for the comic and I can't wait to bring you all along for the ride.

Listed below are some draft sketches of how she started and where she ended up along with some images of her earlier long haired design. The change to the hair color has visual significance, which is denoted early on in the story.

Something that I like to think is that color plays an important role in the reflection of some of the characters.

I feel like there are colors that are made to fit each character that symbolizes something about them. At least that was my design philosophy with Sunny and Blackbird and I hope to show that off more as the story goes on.

It's Monday again! So you know what that means! Today I wanted to talk about the origins behind everyone's Sun Powered hero, Sunny! But not the stuff you've all read in Sunrising but more so the elements of her design. Strap in, it'll be a long one! Initially I was going to get some art of a concept and that was going to be that, just a neat little piece of art to commemorate the idea. But then somewhere along the line I decided. Hey maybe I wanna make a story about this character.

At the time I was working on another script "The Finest Family." but at the time when I was making it. I fell more and more in love with the idea of Sunny's Story and envisioned a one that took place before the one I was currently working on. And thus the concept of "SunnyDaze" was born.

Fun fact #1: I never knew what I wanted to name the series and at the insistence of others they told me to keep the title because it sounded cute.

Anyhow from that point forward, I started working with my artist. When I first made her, she had a whistle on her neck and wore a crop top at first. I liked the idea of her wearing something around her neck but after not being sure what purpose a whistle served. I decided to change the whistle to a pair of dog tags.

Fun fact #2: This decision was the reason why you guys got the "Sunrising" novel in the first place, because I used the dog tags to signify that her parents were soldiers who passed away.

The crop top got swapped out for a sports Bra cause it seemed easier and more practical for someone with an athletic background to wear since it made moving easier. In initial designs the jacket was a bit more beat up to kind of sell the homeless aspect but I had figured that maybe that sets a bad example since not all homeless people look that way, so cleaned the jacket up.

She had long pants in her first design, and the logic was that she wore the dark colors because she believes incorrectly I might add that the black colors absorb sunlight. And while that is true, the clothing absorbs the colors and not her, so it wouldn't fully serve the same effect.

But the more I thought about it, the more I figured that if her whole thing is absorbing sunlight then it might be better to have her wear shorts, since its more suitable to the environment she lives in and it gives her more room to absorb sunlight along her body. And lastly I gave her sandals simply because I thought it looked nice and just kinda gave off the vibe of someone who spends a lot of time at the beach. Plus it was more practical then wearing bandage on her feet.

While the bandages looked cool, It felt odd imagining her going to a job interview with taped up feet like that. I still plan on making changes to the design in the future in a way that I think might make her stand out a bit more but I'm happy with where we ended up. I'll also show some scrapped versions too that had some minor differences and let you guys tell me which ones you liked.

So one of the aspects of the story that's a neat little factor in the story is when it all takes place. I like to have a little timeline of events so that I knew when everything happens. So like always STRAP in everybody this is gonna be a long one! So Sunny's story takes place in something that I'd like to call the C.A.L.E.B universe. The reason being is because the story in of itself revolves around the titular C.A.L.E.B Organization. For Starters C.A.L.E.B stands for the Civilian Aid and Law Enforcement Bureau whose purpose is to serve as a liaison between hybrids [think mutants in X-men] and civilian society. Its creation was inspired by a soldier named Marshall Gear who was among the first to witness the devastation caused by these aliens first hand. His experience led him to suggest the idea of reverse engineering the technology he had found in his initial encounter while also performing autopsies and bio medical scans on the various aliens that were present during the assault on Earth during the first contact war. This First Contact War spanned from 1971 to 1982 roughly 11 years. After the war was over the contamination left behind by the war started changing the human gene pool creating Hybrids. Humans who have the characteristics of the various aliens who assaulted the planet. As a result of this, since the start of the war in 1971 people began exhibiting these strange mutations and with there being no way to handle the rising population Marshall now having gained significant influence for his war efforts began the creation of the C.A.L.E.B organization, circa 1985 - 1990. The focus of this organization started with building institutions to give emerging hybrids a place to foster their abilities safely. And then shifted to also training these hybrids as well as civilians to be able to respond and contain threats that local law enforcement couldn’t handle. Over the course of the years they would begin slowly shifting into local governments at the request of their leaders, leading to the emergence of hybrids serving as peace officers working alongside C.A.L.E.B trained law enforcement agents to harmonize with human society.

This brings us to everyone's favorite little sun powered hero Sunny. She was born 5 years after the end of the first contact war, in 1987! With the Story of Sunrising taking place in the year 2000! When Sunny is 13 years old. By this point the C.A.L.E.B organization is still in its developing stages and isn’t as well known. And while most of the major developed nations have some form C.A.L.E.B protection such the U.S., Canada, The UK, and Japan, not everyone feels the need to have the organization on its island. This could be due to a lack of need, government preference, or trust in the organization.

Subsequently this situation comes to a boil in 2006, 6 years after the “Sunrsing” novel ends and brings us to the start of the comic and serves as one the main focuses of the story. The tale of "SunnyDaze". Follows the story of Sunny as she navigates this world in the midst of change that’s slowly dealing with its own rising Hybrid population.

But unlike the rest of the world has yet to make the necessary steps forward to address the issue of hybrids in its country. But you'll find out more about that as the comic releases. Back to my main topic. The reason I chose this time frame is because I wanted to have a story set in a time period that I thought was fun to write in. The music, the culture of the world at the time I thought it'd be fun to delve into it, as it felt familiar and fun to me.

A funny thing I sometimes think about is that By that logic in the current day and age that would make Sunny 38 years old. I wonder what a Sunny in the modern day would look like?
