It was nothing really, you were just a little hungry was all. It had been bitterly cold for days and by no means was that working any wonders when it came to selling. The lack of customers meant that money was particularly tight and money being tight meant stepping back to one small meal a day. You would be fine. It was just for a week or so. That wouldâve been fine, if you had a normal eating routine every other week of the year.
Okay like teeth-rotting, cavity-inducing, a zombie rotted from sweetness fluff with race? Like he just loves her so so so so much?
âSheâs so pretty,â Race says dreamily, barely even jostling when Albert kicks his chair.
âYouâve said that already. Twice,â he points out, but Race just sighs and smiles. Across the room, youâre helping one of the little ones and he just canât stop looking at you.
âItâs true. I must be the luckiest damn fella in all New York,â Race says, and then gasps when you look over and smile brightly. âShe smiles at me, isnât she beautiful? Do you think it bothers her Iâve been staring?â He asks, suddenly worried and Jack raises an eyebrow.
âYouâve been together over a year, Racer, and you do this everyday. Iâm sure sheâs used to it by now,â Jack deadpans. âI on the other hand, still need to hurl every time you start going on.â

a/n: thanks so much for the compliment darling!! and yessss, i am in such a jack kelly loving mood! those are all so good! Iâm combining 1 & 8 (and might have to do 6 later!)
It was nine oâclock in the evening. The youngest of thenewsies in the Manhattan Lodging House were already put to bed, despiteprotests that they couldnât possibly sleep while Jack was still out. The eldesttold them not to worry. That he was out getting some work done for Medda and thathe would be there when they woke up the next morning.
It was a lie. They had no idea where he was. He was supposedto have come back from Meddaâs an hour and a half ago. Finch, Tommy Boy, andAlbert had been searching for an hour already and hadnât sent any word backeither. And so the littlest slept peacefully while the rest waited up, doingall they could do with the full weight of the situation: they sat anxiously.
You did not sit anxiously. You paced, you drummed yourfingers on your leg, you bit at your nails. You couldnât sit, sitting didnâtfeel right. It felt powerless and lazy. Moving gave you the illusion that youwere doing something while Jackâ your Jackâ was missing. Every movement of thedoor, whether it was from a newsie returning from outside or just the windblowing it open, made your head shoot up, though you couldnât decide if youwanted to see him when he walked through the door. What state would he be in? Daveyâsvoice tore you from your thoughts, making you jump slightly from where youpaced.
âYouâre going to walk a hole in the floor,â he laughed butplaced a hand on yours comfortingly, âIâm sure heâs fine; heâll be here soon.âYou smiled gratefully at him.
Twenty minutes later, Finch threw open the Lodgeâs door andheld it open for Albert and Tommy Boy to help Jack inside. Your heart stopped. He was hobbling, not putting weight on his left foot. He had a black eye and ableeding cut on his cheek, bruises littered his arms and peeked through the newholes in his pants. They eased him onto the nearest bunk, and you were over tohim in no time with the first aid supplies you had brought out as soon as youknew he was missing, kneeling in front of him.
âWhat happened?â you whispered, eyes watering at the sightin front of you. He shrugged but winced slightly when he did.
âJust the Delanceys. Picked a fight with me.â You sighed.
âOh, my God, I thought you were going to die. Please donâtever scare me like that again.â
âIf you think this is bad you should see the other guys,â hebeamed at you.
âYouâre crazy,â you teased, trying to get to work on cleaninghis cuts, but your hands shook too badly to be useful. You cursed, trying toshake off the nerves.
âHey, hey, hey,â he soothed, wrapping your hands in his own.His were solidâ not a single tremble. âItâs ok. Iâm ok, see? Donât worry aboutme.â
He kissed you and you let out a humorless laugh. âYouâre theinjured one but here you are having to comfort me.â
âEh, youâre just worried about your dear old Jack,â you laughedwith him. But he quickly turned serious, âI donât blame you. âm sorry for worryingyou, doll. Iâll try to be more careful.â
âYou always know how to calm me down,â you rested yourforehead against his, âthanks.â
âAnytime.â He gave you another soft peck. It was steady, groundingyou and reminding you that, yeah, everythingâs okâ as long as you have Jack.
hey!! i hope youâre doing wellđ i just wanted to say that i absolutely a d o r e your writing you characters are so on spot theyâre written so well and i just !!!! so good love it

Whatâs your marvel blog if you donât mind me asking? Iâd love to follow!
Ahhhh I don't really want to post the urls of my other blogs for everyone to see. Feel free to message off of anon and I'll tell ya!
Hi! I just had surgery and was wondering if I could request something with how the boys would act if reader had surgery? Sorry thatâs not super specific... Thanks for even considering!
Iâm just gonna pick 5 if thatâs ok? Thereâs so many it can be hard to come up with original ideas for each after a while. If you have specific newsies you wanted please message again and let me know and Iâll be them! I just picked the five âmost commonâ.Â
I hope your surgery went well and youâre better and all that! đ
Jack: Definitely the type to be a stickler about doctorâs orders and medications. Asking down to the exact minute, âHave you taken your medication? You have to take it every four-?â âYes, Jack. I have.â âOk, Iâm just asking, sheesh.â Also, would make sure you donât even think about doing anything against the doctorâs orders and would not let you lift a finger if need be.Â
Davey: Would become super educated about what surgery you had and what you can do to relieve pain, speed up healing, etc. âDavey are you sure about this? It looks disgusting.â âItâs the best natural DIY pain reliever you can make.â âBut is it worth the taste...â âI just spent five hours researching this, if you donât even try it I swear...â
Crutchie: Is so understanding when you arenât yourself for a while after. He does what he can to help/cheer you up and is just the sweetest (but of course). Also bonus, if it was some sort of leg surgery he makes all kinds of jokes about how you two âmatchâ.Â
Race: Super duper protective. Making sure you are comfortable at all times and that you or anyone else are not doing anything to further injure you Letâs say it was like a shoulder surgery. No one is allowed within a feet of your healing shoulder. Will fight anyone who tries.Â
Albert: Isnât so good about knowing how to effectively comfort or help people feel better. But he does know you. He knows what you like, what cheers you up, and, slyly, will go to great lengths to get those things/do those things. He wonât make a big deal out of it though; heâll downplay everything. Itâs like âAlbert how did you find these? The closest place to get them is an hour away?â âYeah? No big deal.â

words: 5,436 warnings: uh? I donât know? uhh reader is female. other than that itâs pretty much pure fluff. Albertâs a good dad y'all. masterlist
You and Albert were walking hand in hand back to your selling spot after a small lunch at Jacobiâs. You had about ten more papers to sell and your boyfriend had a little less, maybe seven or so.
Albert stopped abruptly, tugging on your arm slightly. He led you down an alleyway, a light blush spreading across your cheeks. âAlbert, not now. We gotta finish selling.â
Your boyfriend sent you an exasperated look. âGet ya mind outta the gutter, (Y/N). Iâm hearinâ somethinâ down here.â
You clamped your mouth shut, embarrassed that you thought the reason he was taking you in an alley was to make out. Albert continued walking, biting his lip slightly, something he did when he was nervous. And thatâs when you heard it: it was a small whimper, something that you really had to strain to hear.
Albert had good hearing, you knew that. But the fact that he was able to pinpoint where the noise was coming from astounded you. He dropped your hand, and took off in a bolt, leaving you huffing and running to catch up with him.
When you found him, Albert was crouched in front of a little girl with matted blonde hair and grease covering her face. Her clothes were much too small for her, you could see her stomach while she was sitting down and she had a black and blue bruise along the side of her ribs. âI ainât gonna hurt ya,â Albert was whispering softly to this little girl. She was looking up at him with wide, nervous blue eyes. âWhatâs your name sweetie?â The girl shook her head, eyes starting to water and when you stepped closer, she launched herself into Albertâs arms, hiding her face in his neck. âItâs okay, thatâs (Y/N). Theyâre really nice. They wonât hurt ya either.â
You crouched down next to Albert, lightly resting your hand on his shoulder that the girl wasnât resting on. âAre you hungry?â
She peeked out at you, slightly nodding her head before burying her face back into Albertâs neck. You and Albert exchanged a look, a silent agreement of sorts and started heading back towards Jacobiâs.
-
After getting some food in the small girlâs stomach, she seemed much brighter and you could see a light pink start to tinge her cheeks. She had taken a liking to Albert, wearing his hat and playing with his hair.
Albert seemed to like her as well, his arms wrapped around her, tickling her just to see her smile. âWhat do ya say, darlinâ? Should we take ya back to the lodge and get ya cleaned up?â
The girl just looked at him and smiled brightly. Neither of you have gotten her to talk yet but she seems a lot more comfortable around both of you than she was before. Albert scooped her up in one arm, extending his other hand to you. You grabbed his hand gratefully, excited to go back to the housing lodge and get this little girl cleaned up and in some nicer fitting clothes.
The walk back to the lodge was quiet, the blonde girl snoring softly on Albertâs shoulder was the only sounds besides your shoes hitting the pavement. Walking into the lodge, you found Jack pacing. He whipped his head towards you when the door opened and he opened his mouth to yell at you for being late but stopped when he saw you motioning to be quiet and pointing at the little girl.
Albert took her upstairs to the bathroom to find some cloth to get her cleaned up while you filled the rest of the newsies about what was going on. With the help of Jack, you were able to switch bunks with a few newises to get a small corner of the room for you, Albert, and the girl.
âThatâs a good girl, Rosie.â You heard Albert coo from the bathroom and you giggled at the voice he used with her. âYeah, let me just clean this real quick.â
The girl, Rosie, shrieked and you poked your head in, noticing where he was trying to clean: the bruises on her ribs. âMight be a broken rib.â You murmured, leaning your head on Albertâs shoulder, him trying to calm Rosie still.
Rosie looked at you, reaching her arms for you and you grinned at Albert, picking her up. âYou sleepy honey?â
She blinked slowly once and laid her head against your shoulder. You looked towards your boyfriend. âShe told you her name?â
Albert shook her name. âNah, havenât gotten her to talk yet. Itâs a nickname, figured every newsie kid gets one at one point. Cuz of her cheeks.â
Ever since she got food in her system, Rosieâs cheeks were a soft pink. âI think itâs perfect for her.â You carried her to the bottom bunk you had reserved for her and tucked her in, lightly brushing hair off her forehead. Albert grabbed your hips from behind and you leaned back against him. âI think she could be good for us.â
Albert brushed his lips against the crown of your head. âOur little Rosie.â
âI like the sound of that,â you turned in his arms so you were facing your boyfriend and kissed him lightly.
âDaddy!â Rosie cried as she launched herself into Albertâs arms, excited to see him after a long day of being on a street corner helping you sell papers.
âHiya there, princess! How was your day?â Rosie was comfortably cuddling into Albertâs crouched form and she beamed at him.
âIt was good, mommy and I sold alls our papes!â She cried out, giving him a big thumbs up. Albert grinned up at you and you found a similar smile on your face.
A few months after you and Albert found Rosie in the alleyway, Rosie wedged her way into both of your hearts. It wasnât hard for Rosie to acclimate to yours and Albertâs life. She woke up around the time the morning bell, sometimes a little earlier and got ready with Albert. She usually ended up selling with you because Albert got distracted easily having her around. About a month of getting in this routine, she started calling you mommy and Albert daddy. Albert sobbed like a baby the first time she called him that.
âNice job, Rose! I bet you helped a ton.â Albert looked up at you for agreement and you nodded your head eagerly.
âSheâs such a big help, she sold the last paper today!â You looked down fondly at your little family and Rosie looked so pleased with herself.
âHow is your day, daddy?â Albert stood up, walking over to your and pressing a quick kiss on your lips and then a kiss on Rosieâs forehead.
âBetter now that I get to see you both,â you sent a concerned look to Albert and he shook his head, turning back to Rosie. âWhat do you think about about going to Jacobiâs for some ice cream?â
âReally daddy?â Rosie was bouncing on her toes, and when Albert nodded her head, she went to go find Crutchie to tell him what was going on.
âYou okay?â You grasped Albertâs hand and he squeezed it back lightly.
âYeah, just a long day.â Albertâs accent was thicker than usual, a clear sign that he was exhausted. âIâve been sellinâ about 20 more papes a day than usual.â
You furrowed your eyebrows, Albert running his hand through his hair that has been trapped in a hat all day. âWhy on earth would you do that? Weâre fine between the two of us.â
âI want to be a good father! Mine couldnât support me. I just want to make sure that if another strike happens for some reason, that Rosie will be safe and we wonât have to worry about anything.â
You opened your mouth to respond but closed it when Rosie came running into Albertâs legs, wrapping her little arms around his left one. He lifted his foot up, picking Rosie up with it as well and her giggle rang throughout the whole lodge.
âCan we go now daddy?â Rosie detached herself from Albertâs leg and reached her arms out for him.
Albert took her cue, picking her up and you blushed as Albertâs muscles rippled as he picked up your daughter. âOf course we can, princess.â You walked out the door before Albert and looked back at Rosie. âWhat flavor do you think youâre gonna get, Rose?â
Rosie looked thoughtful for a moment before her face lit up. âChocolate!â
Albert laughed, tickling her side lightly. âYou definitely are my kid,â
Your face fell and Albert looked at you, silently asking if you were okay. Once Jacobiâs was in sight, Rosie demanded to be put down and she ran into Jacobiâs, greeting people in there and choosing a table to sit at. âNow itâs my turn to ask. You okay?â
âYeah, itâs just that comment you made about Rosie being your kid.â You took a deep breath, grabbing onto Albertâs arm that he offered to you. âDonât get me wrong, I love Rosie like sheâs our own but sheâs not ours.â
Albert pulled you closer to him in a side hug and kissed your forehead. âShe may not be our blood but that kid loves us so much and we love âer so much. Sheâs our child, (Y/N).â
You smiled as Albert opened the door to Jacobiâs and you stepped in, Rosie calling to you. âMommy! Come look! I got my ice cream!â
You sat down next to Rosie, Albert settling in on your other side. âThat looks good Rose, you gonna let daddy get a bite?â Rosie held out her spoon to Albert and right as he was going to clamp his lips over the sweet treat, Rosie brushed it against his nose. Albert got up, grabbing Rosieâs sides with a huge grin on his face. âMaybe now Iâll have to eat the rest of your ice cream.â
âNo, Daddy!â Rosie protested, reaching for her ice cream that Albert was holding over her head. âIâll let you and mommy have a taste I promise.â
Albert gave the blonde little girl her bowl back and she immediately held out a spoon full of ice cream for him to try. âMm, good choice, Rose.â
âMommy, do you wanna try some?â You shook your head, enjoying watching your two favorite people.
âIâm okay, thank you darlinâ.â
âHey daddy?â Rosie turned to Albert who was now sitting next to you, his hand brushing against your knee. He hummed, waiting for Rosie to say the next thing. âNext time we get ice cream, can we invite Crutchie?â
âYou like Crutchie?â Albert asked, him laughing at your excited six year old.
Rosie nodded her head. âYeah! Crutchie and I are getting married.â
You giggled, looking at Albertâs face. âDoes Crutchie know that you guys are getting married, sweetie?â
âYeah mommy, of course he does!â Rosie rolled her eyes and she popped her last spoonful of ice cream in her mouth. Albert went and paid for the ice cream and picked Rosie up, walking gently so she could possibly fall asleep.
When you got back to the lodge, Rosie was not asleep. Instead, she excitedly climbed into Crutchieâs lap, pressing a kiss to his bad foot. âCrutchie, I told mommy and daddy about how weâre gettinâ married.â
Crutchie laughed, glancing at Albert. âDid you now?â
âYeah, daddy didnât seem to like that too much.â Crutchie giggled along with Rose and you watched endearingly as she wrapped her arms around his neck, falling asleep within a few moments.
Rosie giggled, running into Albertâs legs, shrieking as he picked her up and threw her in the air. âDaddy! Put me down!â
Albert put down the blonde and walked over to you, giving you a quick kiss as a hello. You smiled. âYou finished selling early today.â
âYeah, figure Iâd take a short day so I can be with you guys.â Albertâs arms wrapped around your waist and you laughed as Rosie pushed her way in between you two.
âDaddy, when we get home, can we play duck duck goose with Crutchie and Uncle Race?â Albert laughed, recently Rosieâs been calling Race her Uncle and no one knows where it came from. It makes everyone laugh.
âWeâll have to see, Rose. Crutchieâs foot ainât too good.â Albert took his hat off his head, and Rosie grabbed it out of his hand, placing it on her head backwards.
âWell then JoJo can play!â Rosie cried out happily, spotting JoJoâs form walking closer to the small group.
âWhat did ya just volunteer me for, ya little monster?â Rosie squealed in fake horror, going to hide behind you, her small fingers digging into your sides.
JoJo picked up Rosie from behind, tickling her sides, her joyous giggle ringing on the street corner. Since Rosieâs gotten to know the other boys at the lodge, she quickly took a liking to JoJo, teasing him as a younger sister would tease her older brother. It was obvious JoJo felt the same way about her because whenever she was in the room with him, he was holding her close or playing with her hair. Albert would never admit it but you could always tell: he got jealous when Rosie hung on JoJo.
âWhen we get home, me, you, Uncle Race, and daddy are going to play duck duck goose!â Rosie exclaimed happily, wrapping her arms around Jojoâs neck.
You looked at Albert and found him looking down at you still. âYou guys can go on ahead, Iâve gotta finish selling these papes.â
Albert frowned, taking a few papers from your hands. âJoJo, Iâm gonna stay and help (Y/N), could you maybe take Rose back to the lodge?â
Jojo grinned at Rosie. âHear that? Itâs me anâ you tonight bud.â
Rosieâs lower lip started to tremble and a tear rolled down her cheek. âBut I want mommy and daddy!â
Albert quickly took her into his arms, you going to wipe her tears. âBaby, daddy and I will be home in a little bit. We just gotta go and sell the rest of these first.â
âYeah, Rose. You can go home and practice playing duck duck goose with Uncle Race and JoJo so when I get home, we can play it for real and youâll be so good at it.â
Rosie let out another sob. âBut Iâm already good at it!â
You giggled quietly and Rosie sent you a betrayed look. You shut your mouth and looked your daughter softly. âJoJoâll take you to get some dinner on the way home. You love having dinner with JoJo.â
âBut only when you guys are there.â JoJo reached his hands out for Rosie, despite her loud protests.
âThe longer weâre here, the longer it takes for mommy and daddy to go home. Letâs go meet Crutchie for dinner okay?â
Rosie brightened up at Crutchieâs name. âI love Crutchie.â
You giggled, looking at Albertâs annoyed face. âI know, so weâre gonna go get dinner with him while mommy and daddy finish selling and by the time weâre done eating, mommy and daddy will be on their way home.â JoJo set Rosie down and took her hand leading her away from the corner and you smiled; it was nice to have people around who loved Rosie almost as much as you and Albert did.
-
Once you and Albert got back to the lodge from selling the last of your papers, you found Race, JoJo, Buttons, Davey, and Jack sitting on the floor while Rosie was walking around them, tapping their heads. âDuck, duck, duck⊠GOOSE!â
She tapped Davey on the head and started sprinting around the circle, setting herself down in Daveyâs spot before he had a chance to tag her. âRoom for one more?â
Rosieâs head shot toward Albertâs voice and she quickly moved to push Jack aside. âThereâs room right next to me daddy!â
Albert settled in next to Rosie and Jack and brushed a piece of her hair back. âThis is a lot more people playing duck duck goose than what you planned before.â
Rosie grinned at Buttons and Buttons smiled right back. âThey canât say no to me, Iâm too cute.â
You frowned as Rosie stomped into the lodge, a pout on her face as Albert trailed behind, calling out to her. âRose, câmon baby.â
Rosie turned around sticking her tongue out at her dad. âI donât want to talk to you.â
After Rosie disappeared from the main room in the lodge, you wrapped your arms around Albertâs neck, him burying his face in the crook of your shoulder. âWhat happened?â
âShe asked me if she was allowed to start selling by herself.â Albertâs voice was muffled but you could still understand him.
âAnd you told her no?â You stroked your hand through the hair on his neck and he nodded his head.
âSheâs too little! The Delanceyâs could get her. Or worse, some other family with more money could decide they want a little girl with curly blonde hair and pink cheeks and theyâll just pluck her off the street and Iâll never see my little girl again.â Albert sniffed against your shoulder and your heart broke when you realized that he was crying.
âHey, Rosie loves us just as much as we love her. She wouldnât even think about leaving, and if she was going to get taken, sheâd fight and there would be someone around who would help her.â Albert pulled away, rubbing at his eyes. âI think we should let her try selling alone.â Albert opened his mouth to start to argue but you cut in before he could. âLes has been looking for a selling partner and theyâre around the same age. I think it would be good for them.â
âI guess it would be good for Rosie to be with a kid instead of all the older newsies.â Albert rubbed his hand down his face. âBut we should talk to her about it first, safety precautions and all that.â You nodded your head, agreeing. Albert smiled softly, grabbing your hand and going to find Rosie.
-
âAlright Rosie,â Albert knelt down in front of the blonde seven year old. âYou be safe out there, if someone looks scary, you donât have to try to sell a pape to them. And Les is gonna be right there with you.â Albert pressed his palm to her cheek and Rosie squirmed away, antsy to go off with Les. âAnd one last thing, if you donât like this, come find mommy or me and weâll finish sellinâ with ya.â
Rosie nodded her head. âIâll be fine,â she grabbed Lesâs hand and his cheeks turned a light pink. âCâmon Les, letâs go!â
You smiled, watching Rosie run off with Les to their designated selling corner. You turned to Albert who was biting on his fingernails nervously. âSheâll be fine, you know that, right? Sheâs a smart kid.â
âSheâs growinâ up so fast.â Albert looked down at his scuffed shoes.
âSheâll always be your little girl,â You reminded him, resting a hand on Albertâs shoulder.
Albert laughed, pressing a kiss to your temple as he wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you into his side. âSheâll always be our little girl.â
-
You didnât see Rosie at lunch, so you assumed she was having a good day. So when she walked in the lodge arm and arm with Les and a smile on her face, you cast a âI told you soâ glance at Albert. âHowâd it go?â
Rosie hugged you tightly and then went to Albert, him not hesitating to pick her up. âIt was amazing! Les is so much fun.â Rosie beamed at her new friend, and you looked over where he was standing, smiling at Davey.
âIâm glad you had a good day pumpkin,â Albert said, kissing both of her cheeks.
âYeah but now Iâm tired,â Rosie yawned making you giggle. âCan I sleep in your bed tonight daddy?â
Albert grinned at you; you were right when you said that sheâd always be his little girl. Â âOf course you can, princess.â
âAye, Albert, look at her! Sheâs a stunner! Who woulda thought youâd have to give her away so soon.â Race teased elbowing the grumpy ginger in his side.
âShut up Race, it ainât that funny.â Albert spat out, glancing over at Rosie who was adorned in a white dress Katherine had gotten made specially for this day.
âAnd to think, sheâs marryinâ another Newsie!â Specs exclaimed, throwing an arm around Race and Albertâs shoulders.
When you walked in the room, Albert shuffled over to you and you sent him a small smile. âWhatâs wrong?â
âI donât like this,â he mumbled, moving in to press a kiss to your cheek.
âAlbert, itâs a fake wedding and everyoneâs having fun planning it.â You gave him a chaste kiss. âBesides, this is the happiest Iâve seen Rosie in a while, donât ruin her fun. Little girls are supposed to play dressup and Iâm just glad that everyone else is playing her game.â
You grinned as Rosie ran up to you, hugging herself to your left leg tightly. âMommy, can you go find my fiancĂ© and see if heâs ready to get married?â
You glanced at Albert, whose face was almost as red as his hair and you rubbed a soothing hand across Rosieâs forehead. âSure, but you gotta do somethinâ for me too okay?â She nodded her head and you leaned down so you could whisper in her ear. âGive daddy a big hug and kiss and tell him how heâs still your favorite guy.â
Rosie launched herself into Albert, squealing eagerly as he picked her up and hugged her real tight. âDaddy, youâre still my favorite person. You know that right?â
You watched as a huge smile spread across Albertâs face and he kissed Rosieâs forehead. âYouâse my little girl, youâse just growinâ up so fast.â
You turned away, letting them have a father-daughter moment before Rosieâs âweddingâ and you went to go find Crutchie. You found him in the first room full of bunks, him adjusting a bow tie from a suit he borrowed from Davey for the special occasion. âHey, lover boy. Ready to go get married?â
Crutchieâs face broke into a grin and he turned to you. âRosieâs a good kid, Iâm just glad I can make her happy by playing along.â
âJust make sure not to break her heart, Morris. Or Albert might actually kill ya.â You put on a fake stern face and Crutchie started laughing.
âYes, Mrs. DaSilva,â he replied, seeing your face fall slightly. âShit, Iâm sorry if that hit a nerve, (Y/N). You guys just already act like youâre married and-â
âYeah, no, I get it. Letâs go get you married.â You cut Crutchie off, holding out your arm to guide him to where he needed to go. When you guided Crutchie into the living room, you grinned at what you saw.
The newsies had cleared an aisle for Rosie to walk down, chairs lined up on either side so they could watch the wedding. JoJo standing at the âaltarâ which was really just the doorway  to the lodge with the door open. You walked Crutchie down to go stand beside JoJo before going and taking a seat in the front row by Race, leaving a space in between for Albert. You saw JoJo nod at Specs and Elmer, who nodded at Les.
Specs started playing âHere Comes the Brideâ on his old beat up trumpet and Elmer joined on a clarinet, signaling that the wedding was starting. You turned around, giggling as Les walked down the aisle, throwing flower petals where he saw fit. When he got near Crutchie, he dropped the rest on the floor in a huge clump and went to go sit by Jack, Davey, and Katherine.
Next came your two favorite people: Rosie and Albert. Rosieâs pink cheeks were more pink than normal, probably due to excitement, and she was tugging on Albertâs hand, practically pulling him down the aisle. Everyone was standing in true wedding fashion, and once Rosie reached the alter with Albert, Albert leaned down to give her a hug and a kiss and came and stood next to you.
âAâight, will everyone be seated?â Jojo announced and you took Albertâs hand as you sat down, him rubbing circles on the back of your hand with his thumb. âWe are gathered here today to celebrate the wedding of Miss Rosie DaSilva and Mister Crutchie Morris. Rosie, would you like to state your vows?â
You and everyone else in the audience laughed slightly as Rosie waved at Katherine. Katherine had helped Rosie with her vows and has been very excited to tell them to Crutchie. Rosie cleared her throat and joined her hands behind her back, something her and Albert both did when they were nervous. âCrutchie. Crutchie Morris,â she started, making Crutchie giggle. âI love you a lot, especially when you play tic tac toe with me.â Everyone in the audience looked at her expectantly and she threw you an exasperated look. âIâm seven, not a genius. Iâm done. Itâs Crutchieâs turn.â
You watched as Crutchie kneeled down on his bad leg so he could be at eye level with Rosie. âRosie, you are such a good kid. You manage to put a smile on my face everyday. Thank you for that.â
You watched your daughters face light up into a big smile and she threw her arms around Crutchieâs neck. âSoâs do you, Rosie take Crutchie to be your husband?â JoJo asked and Rosie nodded her head.
âI do.â
âAnd do you, Crutchie take Rosie to be your wife?â
âYeah, why not.â
âYou may now kiss your bride.â JoJo said, sending a smirk at Albert who got elbowed in the side by Race.
âYeah, thatâs okay.â Rosie said, hugging Crutchie. âCrutchie has germs so I only let him kiss my cheek.â She pulled away, pointing at her cheek and Crutchie leaned in, planting a huge kiss where she gestured for him to kiss. After she got her kiss, she ran over to you, Albert, and Race, climbing into Raceâs lap. âUncle Race, did ya see that? I just got married!â
Race laughed, tapping Rosie on the nose. âI sure did, kiddo. And wow did ya look pretty.â
Rosie looked pleased, climbing off of his lap and running over to Crutchie who scooped her up in his arms. âHey, waddya feel about goinâ to get some ice cream as a wedding present?â
âI think that I married the best person ever!â Rosie exclaimed glancing at you.âMommy, can I go?â You nodded your head and Rosie looked at Crutchie and whispered in his house.
âHey Albert,â your new âson-in-lawâ called outt. âWanna come with?â
Albert smiled softly, glancing at you slightly. âNah, I gotta do something here, thanks though. Have fun.â Crutchie nodded, setting Rosie down so that they can go walk to Jacobiâs.
You turned to Albert, ready to ask him what he had to do here but he was already starting to talk. âCan we like, go outside or something?â You nodded your head and Albert took a hold of your hand, pulling you outside the lodge.
âWhatâs going on?â You asked and Albert shushed you.
âI was gonna do this weeks ago but everyone seemed so busy planning this wedding that it seemed like I should wait but now I donât want to wait. Fuck, I want a wedding like this, (Y/N). Our friends, and Rosie and I want it soon. Weâve been together for what, 3 years now? I think weâre more than ready so,â Albert stopped, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a ring, kneeling down on one knee. âWill you, (Y/N) (L/N), marry me?â
Your jaw opened and your eyes welled up with tears. Nodding your head, you knelt to the ground in front of Albert and cradled his face in your hands. âOf course, of course.â Albert kissed you, cupping your neck with his hands before pulling away and slipping the ring on your finger. âWhere did you get this ring?â
He threw you a crooked grin, kissing you again. âRemember when I started sellinâ more papes? Thatâs how I got this ring.â
âAlbert, I donât know what to say.â You replied, kissing him once more.
âDonât gotta say anythinâ doll. I love you.â
âI love you too, more than you could ever know.â
-
âHere comes the bride,â Rosie started singing, sending a cheerful glance at you as you slowly made your way down the makeshift altar. You and Albert decided to have the wedding in Central Park, opting to put some money each month into a fund for Rosie in case something happened to you both. âAll dressed and wide!â Rosie exclaimed, winking at Crutchie as he starts laughing. âHere comes the broom,â Rosie paused, giggling slightly. âHeâs the best dad.â
âThat doesnât even rhyme, Rose!â Albert yelled over Specâs trumpet playing that Rosie was singing along to.
Once you made it down the aisle, you kissed JoJo on the cheek, he walked you down because you two are so close youâre practically siblings, Albert grabbed your hands, bringing one up to his mouth so he could press a soft kiss to the top of it. âAbsolutely gorgeous.â
You blushed under his intense gaze. âItâs just a dress me and Katherine made.â
âAnd you look gorgeous in it,â your soon-to-be-husband replied, making you smile.
âLetâs get on with it already!â Rosie called, from her seat on Crutchieâs lap. You had offered her to be the flower girl and she was quite pleased with that idea, until she found out that she had to stay up at the âaltarâ with you and Albert until the officiating part of the ceremony was over.
You turned to the pastor who Elmer was able to convince to come officiate the wedding and he cleared his throat, ready to begin his duties.
âDo you, (Y/N) (L/N) take Albert DaSilva to be your lawfully wedded husband?â
You nodded enthusiastically. âI do!â
âAnd do you, Albert DaSilva take (Y/N) (L/N) to be your lawfully wedded wife?â
âHell yeah!â Albert exclaimed throwing a wink in your direction. From where she was sitting, Rosie cleared her throat and Albert blushed. âSorry, Rosie. I mean, I do.â
And with that, Albert was pulling your waist towards him and his lips met your own before the priest could even finish saying âyou may now kiss the bride.â
All the newsies in the audience applauded when you shared your first kiss as husband and wife, but neither of you could hear them, you were too wrapped up in being as close to your husband as you could be.
Pulling away, you giggled as Rosie pushed herself into Albertâs arms. âIâll always be your favorite girl,â she kissed him sweetly on his cheek and Albert chuckled softly. âRight daddy?â
âOf course doll! Youâre my favorite little girl.â Albert wrapped a hand around your upper arm, pulling you close. âBut your momma here is my favorite big girl.â
âHey, watch it!â You teased. âRosie already called me wide as I was walking down the aisle.â
âAnd she called me a broom, what are we going to do with her?â Albert asked, raising his eyebrows mischievously at you. âMaybe a tickle fight?â
âNoo!â Rosie exclaimed, shrieking and running away and jumping into Crutchieâs arms. âSave me! Theyâre gonna tickle me to death!â
Crutchie clutched Rosie to his chest dramatically as your daughter giggled, cheeks tinting even more pink when Crutchie pressed a kiss to her forehead. âYouâre safe with me, my beautiful wife!â
You laughed softly and turned toward Albert. âCalm down, Fido. Itâs a good day, you donât have to get all jealous over nothing.â
Albert rolled his eyes at you and leaned down to brush his lips over yours. âWhatâs there to be jealous about? Iâve finally got you as my wife. Forever.â
You smiled, connecting your lips once more. âForever and ever.â You agreed, kissing Albert again slowly, not having to worry about anything besides being in his arms. Rosie came up and wrapped her arms around one of your legs and one of Albertâs. You broke away from Albert and smiled down at your daughter, picking her up. Both you and Albert kissed one of her cheeks and she smiled happily, nuzzling into your neck. âAnd I couldnât be happier with my little family.â

I laughed, I cried. 10/10.
May I request a Jojo/reader where the reader delivers bread for a living and runs into Jojo regularly?
âHeading out, Y/N?â Â Your boss poked his head around the corner, watching you shrug your coat on.
âYeah. Â Did you need something else?â Â You doubted it - the majority of your work was delivering the bread orders to local restaurants. Â Even rich people would rather pick up an order themselves than pay a kid to run it by. Â Most places wouldnât be needing bread this late, so it couldnât be another order.
âCould you throw out the stale bread?â
âSure,â you said casually. Â You packed it into an old bag and carried it out the back way, but darted through the alley instead of tossing the food. Â It was stale, sure, but not inedible. Â Years earlier, the baker and his family would have eaten the stale stuff. Â Nowadays he did well enough to eat fresh baked goods, so he tossed the stuff that couldnât be sold.
At least, he thought he tossed it.
You couldnât bear to throw away good food. Â When you first got the job as his delivery kid, you would stuff as much of it into the folds of your clothes as you could. Â You would eat what you couldnât carry. Â Your parents did their best, but it wasnât until you had the stale bread that you understood what it was like to go to bed full. Â
It was getting dark when, pockets bulging with slightly smushed, firm rolls, you ran into some boys on the street. Â Their cheeks were not quite hollow, but they were small. Â Their eyes were older than their bodies, so you supposed that they werenât eating enough to grow. Â You were in an alleyway, hoping that nobody would see you and think you were a thief. Â It wasnât exactly stealing, not if it was going to end up in a trash can anyway.
They looked at you, eyebrows raised when you pressed your hands against your pockets.
âWe ainât thieves,â one of them said. Â He had dark eyes and a strong jaw, set with irritation.
âWhat? Â No - no, thatâs not -â Â You faltered, not wanting them to misunderstand why you were standing like that. Â
âWe wonât pick your pockets, kid. Â You donât look like youâd have much worth taking. Â Move along.â Â He turned dismissively.
âI donât think youâs thieves,â you said indignantly. Â âI just need to keep a hold on my stuff.â Â You pulled a roll out of your pocket. Â âSee?â
He stared at the loot, then laughed. Â âHow many of those do you have? Â Theyâs practically falling out.â
You shrugged, pulling out a few more. Â Not nearly as many as you had, but enough to prove your point. Â Your grin faltered when you saw the way the boy and his companions stared longingly at the handfuls. Â âWant some? Â Itâs not fresh, but itâs pretty good. Â Tastes fine, and all.â
âNo,â he said resolutely. Â The other boys deflated a little. Â The one had a fat cigar in his mouth, and he gnawed on the tip. Â The other had a slingshot sticking out of his trousers. Â Both were too thin for their own good. Â Your mother would have said that the wind would knock them over, but that hard look in their eyes made you think that the wind wouldnât dare.
âWhy?â Â You were almost offended, which was stupid. Â He was telling you to keep the food you had always intended for yourself, but now it felt like an affront. Â âIs stale bread not good enough for you?â
âItâs your food. Â We ainât taking it.â
âI have enough to share,â you said. Â There were three of them, one of you. Â That was fine.
âI got other kids,â he admitted. Â âI donât like leaving some mouths hungry, but not others.â
You swallowed thickly, looking at the rolls. Â âThey can have âem.â
He shook his head, and you could see the annoyance in the other two. Â âYou wouldnât have the food if you didnât need it.â
âNeed and want ainât the same. Â I want food. Â You need food. Â Show me the other boys, and we can split it up.â
He had taken you to them, begrudgingly thankful. Â You had passed the rolls out to them, unable to keep track of the hungry faces. Â You were a little sad about the empty pockets when you left, but you would rather have a hollow stomach than that hollow feeling in your chest you had when you saw the boys.
Now you brought the group all of the stale bread whenever you had the chance. Â You understood the hunger once you realized that they were Newsies, and you no longer wished you could keep the food for yourself. Â The more food you brought, the more you got to know the kids.
You had been talking to Jack, Race, and Finch that first night. Â Over the months that passed, you got to know Crutchie, who sometimes tried to give you his share. Â You never took it. Â Romeo would flirt, but he never really tried anything. Â Finch taught you to shoot. Â They kept people from harassing you when you delivered throughout the city, and Jack insisted that you would get all of your papers for free.
âA roll is worth more than a penny,â he said when you protested. Â âIt doesnât matter thatâs itâs stale. Â A trade is a trade, Y/N.â

hey allly could i bother you for some more jojo content? maybe something where the reader has been feeling really depressed and not doing anything at all and jo cheers her up and stuff. if not thatâs chill
JoJo: Â wanna hang out tonight?
You considered. Â You smelled your sleeve and winced. Â Youâd have to change your clothes. Â You would have to shower. Â You would have to eat, unless you were willing to lie to JoJo about it. Â You would rather not lie to him. Â Brushing your teeth seemed like a lot, but mouthwash didnât seem any better.
Hanging out with JoJo was one of your favorite things, but getting to that point seemed like too much.
Y/N: Â I canât. Â Sorry
You had been feeling exceptionally not-yourself lately. Â You had been depressed for a while, but you had associated it with feeling bad. Â Negative feelings. Â Sadness. Â Dread. Â Self hate. Â Self doubt. Â Then, a few weeks ago, something had changed.
You felt nothing at all.
It had seemed like such a good thing at the time. Â That numbness was a relief after the ugliness for so long. Â It had seemed great, but now you were stuck with that void, and everything seemed insignificant. Â JoJo mattered more than anything else, but getting ready to see him was too much.
It was early afternoon, but you were laying in the dark, still in bed. Â No point to getting up now. Â You burrowed deeper into your nest of blankets and started playing a movie on your laptop. Â It wasnât very good, but you had already watched everything that seemed good.
There was a gentle knock on the door, and you winced when a blade of light cut across your face.
âY/N?â Â You would have known JoJoâs voice anywhere, but it took you by surprise to hear it there and then. Â âYour mom let me in.â
âHey.â Â You felt vaguely embarrassed that he would see you like this, but it was too late to change it now. Â He was here uninvited, but it was nice to see him.
He flicked on the light and looked at you, taking in the nest of blankets and chip bags. Â âHave you gotten up today?â
âI used the bathroom a few hours ago.â
He smiled briefly, but wiped it away. Â He was a smiley, good-natured boy, but he always pushed you to be at your best. Â He didnât care what that meant, as long as it was your best. Â If acing every test was you at your best, he was wholeheartedly behind you. Â If a C in a class was the best you could do, he would congratulate you.
Now, looking at you, he was seeing you at your worst. Â You couldnât remember the last time you showered. Â You didnât have the motivation to cook, so you ate junk. Â This was your worst, and though you didnât expect anything more from yourself, JoJo deserved the best version of you.
âItâs been a rough day,â you said apologetically.
âHave you eaten yet?â
You nodded at one of the bags of chips. Â âDoes that count?â
âNope. Â I thought we could go out to eat, but I think a night in sounds prime,â he decided. Â âYouâll go shower, and Iâll make something to eat.â
You wrinkled your nose. Â âJoJo, I really donât want -â
âY/N,â he said. Â His voice was gentle, but his words were firm. Â âI know that you donât want to. Â I swear, youâll feel a little better once youâve showered. Â Weâll take this one step at a time. Â Youâll shower, and Iâll make food.â
Your head flopped against the pillow. Â Get up for JoJo. Â Your limbs felt too heavy. Â Your eyes shot open when you felt JoJoâs arms go under your arms and knees. Â âWhat are you doing?â
âCarrying you,â he said. Â His wiry arms had to shift you around some, but he swiftly whirled you into the bathroom.
You had to choke down a laugh. Â The smile on his face would make you think he was carrying a bride over the threshold, not a depressed teenager into a bathroom. Â âPut me down!â
âMy pleasure.â Â He dropped you on the edge of the tub. Â âYou reek, Y/N.â Â He waved a playful hand in front of his nose.
You shrugged. Â âI told you I couldnât hang tonight. Â Donât blame me for not getting ready for you.â
âI donât blame you,â he said. Â âI want to help. Â Wash up, and Iâll get food. Â Itâll help, I promise.â Â He pressed his lips to your temple for a second before leaving.
You showered. Â It was wearying, but you did feel a little lighter once you washed away days worth of sweat. Â You didnât bother shaving, but you felt a little more human. Â The food wasnât incredible, but eating something warm was nice.
JoJo chose a movie that the two of you had watched a million times, but it was nice hearing him laugh at his favorite parts. Â His shoulder was leaning against yours, and that was what really felt nice. Â As good as it probably was to bathe and eat real food, having JoJo there was a million times better.
Tomorrow would be another day, and it would probably be just as hard, but you werenât all alone. Â JoJo couldnât make you better, but he would do little things to help. Â That was nice. Â Maybe accepting his help wasnât such a bad thing. Â He wanted your best, but he was always willing to help you get there.
