The first release off Sungate Records isĀ āI Survived A Warā by Mariami
I Survived a War tells a story of survival, perseverance, and overcoming the odds. Mariami weaves in her personal narrative of escaping the grip of the war torn Soviet Union as a child to arrive in America, while speaking to the theme of female strength and resilience.Ā In it's message, others can find a path to emerge victorious over their own battles.
A few words from Mariami on writing this song:
I often create mini-challenges for myself when wanting toĀ adoptĀ a new skillset. At that time I wrote I Survived A War, I was learning how to make beats in Ableton and my weekly personal challenge was to compose one full song in Ableton top to bottom (production & vocals & mix.) I happened to be visiting Wave Hill the day of the challenge, it was around New Years. If youāve never been to Wave Hill, itās an imperial 28 acre garden that overlooks the Palisades and Hudson River in New York City. TheĀ perennial gardens, stone pergola and horticulture are all breathtaking. Being an energyĀ sensitiveĀ person -- and considering the fact that Mark Twain leased the estate from 1901 - 1903 and that it was frequented by the likes of Charles Darwin, Arturo Toscanini and Theodore Roosevelt, there was a bounty of residual vibe to absorb. So much that I went home and almost became sick from the intake of all that vibe. When I went home I created a mock version of I Survived A War and within days uploaded a homeĀ performance of it to my Instagram:
