THE DEATH DEITIES

☽║☾ OOC. o kay so i have the worst luck!!  i had a lab midterm today (on a friday kill me)  and as soon as i was done i drove to my parents’  house bc ya know, spring break, and as soon as  i stepped through the door, my lab prof sent me an  email that said “exam emergency.”

☽║☾ ZELLA: is a young woman with very low empathy, low emotional affect, and borderline APD who is a non-psychokinetic user in‘The Leviathan Program’ novel. Her moral compass is somewhat skewed, but it is what she’s been using since her childhood to gauge her actions and words. She has a very black-and-white way of seeing the world due to this, dividing people into three categories: usable, foe, and (very rarely) friend. 

Acting as a chameleon of sorts, Zella adapts her personality and mannerisms to fit whatever role she needs to play. Her physical appearance is that of a woman with long, dark hair, green eyes, lithe, and stands at roughly 5′8″. She is best described as shrewd, careful, manipulative, cold, possessive, and methodical. 

A breakdown of her categories are as followed: 

“Foe” is anyone who gets in her way of her goals. For now, her main goal seems rather altruistic: help people with psychokinetic powers gain more rights/freedom. She has no problem eliminating these people in any way possible-- though she prefers to have others do her bidding. 

“Usable” is anyone who can be manipulated to help her achieve these goals. This is by far where the majority of people she meets are thrown into-- everyone has at least one simple motivation that she can use to further her own goals. Because she has had to study human nature/personality so steadily, she is quite good in regards to interpersonal skills, and many would not believe her to be lacking in empathy. 

And finally, “Friend” currently has only one person in this category. A childhood friend with psychokinetic powers, Hope is the only person who, after seeing who Zella truly was, did not leave or try to change her. Being the only constant in her life and the person who helped her craft her moral compass, Hope is someone who Zella deems as irreplaceable. Due to this, she is highly valuable and outranks any of Zella’s goals. Despite being a non-psychokinetic user, Zella genuinely wishes to help their cause, going so far as acting as the “brain” of their organization so their goals can be met: of pk’s eventually having the same rights as non-pk’s. 

Also, it is because of her, that Zella knew she could experience a truly pure emotion: that of love.  *side note, Zella is not an antagonist in the novel, and is actually quite kind to the protagonist. Her APD does not define her, but it is a part of her personality and actions.

☽║☾ ACACIUS: is an eternally twenty-two year old vampire who was turned in the 80′s. Though a vampire, he has a terrible sight-aversion to blood and has to drink it from closed containers/cups. Along with an intense phobia of fire, Acacius traverses the shadowy underworld of L.A. with nothing but fear hammering in his undead chest. Despite his immortality, he is still fearful of walking alone at night, cannot go to crowded/noisy places, and would rather keep his nose buried in a book. All he wants is a normal life-- and he does his best to blend in with humankind, especially due to his cherubic features and all too human clumsiness, which makes him appear less like some damned creature of the night and more like an awkward twentysomething. Skinny, tan, standing only at 5′2″,and with a messy mop of light-brown curls, he looks about as harmless as you can get. 

Of course, his attempt at living a peaceful life is not to last. With his sire suddenly missing and no other points of contact, Acacius somehow finds himself on the doorstep and mercy of twin detectives who take him in-- surprisingly fine with supernatural creatures. Comically enough, they are the ones to take care of him, and it is thanks to their connections that Acacius can have a steady flow of blood packet. It is during his stay with the twins that he tries to uncover the missing pieces of his life before he was a vampire while also trying to find his sire. The further he digs, however, the more and more his phobias make sense. 

All he knows for sure is that in his human life, he was a grad student studying history, his parents had both recently died, and for whatever reason, his last memories of his human life are of being trapped in a burning building.

☽║☾ CYRUS LARS: is a 28 year-old man on the cusp of breaking apart. Haunted by the memories of the squad members he was unable to save, Cyrus finds himself spiraling further and further into self-loathing, depression, and near-crippling PTSD. He is unable to hold down any of his part-time jobs after he is honorably discharged from the Army, and it is only thanks to the charity of his sister that he even has enough money to pay for his rent. 

This all changes when he is approached by the Director of ‘The Leviathan Program.’ With the discovery of people able to practice telekinesis/psychokinetic powers, the Leviathan Program is the first group to want to militarize these people’s powers– supposedly for the greater good of humankind. Given an offer he is unable to refuse, Lars finds himself acting as a Commander for Unit Seven, a group of 4 barely-adults with monstrous powers. It is his role to command the unit as he sees fit, helping them train and learn to work as a team. 

All of a sudden, he has a purpose again. For a while, his symptoms seemingly improve…

However, due to his unhealthy coping mechanisms, he still tries to push his unit away with harsh words and aloofness in fear of getting close to others again. Afraid that he would suffer another horrible loss, he buries any sentimentality and kindness deep inside him, and instead, plays the role of the perfect commander. He throws himself into his work while keeping his unit an arm length’s away– keeping up a facade as an emotionless machine. Of course, to make matters worse, one of the unit members is the splitting image of one of his dead squad members… 

However, nothing is ever that simple and with his fraying mental state, Lars finds himself unable to keep up the charade for long– and it’s his unit that’s picking up the fragments of an all too broken man.

☽║☾ OOC. l mao so guys i won this raffle at my uni  but the way i did it is hilarious so they hand out tickets b4 they show movies on campus and well... i jokingly turned to my friend and said “i’m gonna  use my psychokinetic powers to get the girl to read out my  ticket’s number.” and i shit you not, she read out my number  and my reaction was basically “??????” and “!!!!!!!!” at the  same time. 

OOC. lmao so i need to gush about shadowhunters anyway so i’m just gonna explain things in a real quick way:

basically you’ve got ppl called shadowhunters who have both human and angel blood in them (they’re also called nephilim). it’s their duty to protect and guard regular humans from finding out about the supernatural world.

shadowhunters use enchanted weapons to fight “bad” supernatural entities. everything used is hand-to-hand (no firearms) and includes stuff like swords, bows-and-arrows, whips, etc. Their weapons are made with material that can hurt supernatural entities as opposed to regular ol’ swords and bows. They also use runes, a sort of magical mark/tattoo granted by angels to give them powers above that of regular humans. These runes can also be inscribed on objects or other ppl (ex: there’s a rune that lets you hide your appearance/become invisible to regular ppl).

downworlders are all other supernatural entities. this includes vampires, werewolves, fae, warlocks, etc. they are said to possess both human and demon blood, hence their designation (normally) as antagonists in the series. but spoiler alert all my favorite characters are downworlders. 

my favorite type of downworlder is warlocks, the product of a human and demon coupling. they have unparalleled magical potential and are basically the go-to when it comes to magic and spells. however, they are physically immortal and many times, are used by other downworlders or even shadowhunters for their own personal gain. oh, they also can’t have kids either, hence why many warlocks take to “adopting” other downworlders as their children. 

STUDIES: 

☽║☾ Assuming a human!au of some sorts, I always imagine Anubis being an English or Business major. Perhaps even dual-majoring, even though that sorta thing is difficult. He seems like the type that would coast by without needing to study much (something even I’m jealous about lol), often garnering A’s and B’s while having a large social circle. His favorite part about being a dual major is that he gets to meet people from both sides of his majors and often gets into discussions about books and business models w/ others. He also has a soft-spot for philosophy, and often tries to fit in a class every semester or so to keep his mind sharp! Oh, Anubis also gets along splendidly w/ his professors, so he doesn’t mind going to office hours or chatting w/ profs outside of class to find out more about quizzes/tests/hw etc., and relaying the information to his friends! Overall, he’s a pretty popular guy, though one who may stretch himself too thin every now and then when he wants to please people. 

☽║☾ Dark eyes widen, black eyelashes fluttering briefly. Surprise etches itself into his features, brows raised and cheeks flushed a lovely shade of red at Mihai’s sudden confession. He blinks, all thoughts coming to an abrupt stop. 

Of course it’s in typical Anubis fashion that he alsodrops everything including his weapon despite being on patrol to wrap his arms around Mihai, unable to stop himself from giving him a quick peck on the cheek. The blade clatters to the ground as Anubis threads a hand through Mihai’s dark locks, holding on so tightly as if he worried that it was all but an apparition and the man before him would disappear. 

( it was a hidden sorrow all gods knew-- the fragility of humanity. savor this moment, he thinks, all too emotional for a simple confession-- yet, here he was, trying to preserve time as if it were just another corpse to be embalmed. ) 

“How lucky could I be? That you would feel the same way I do... I-I want to spend all my time with you too, Mihai.” The words are nearly muffled, pressed into Mihai’s shoulder as the god gives the man one more squeeze before returning to an arm’s length away. His hand easily finds the other hunter’s and he gives a smile as warm as the sun’s gentle rays. 

☽║☾ Anubis holds the satchel as if it is made of gold-- already, he can smell the heavy scent, eyes alight with awe and surprise. 

“Oh my, what a thoughtful gift! Egyptian chamomile-- this must have been difficult to find. Wow!” Grin so wide that even Chet worried that her father’s face would get stuck like that, Anubis gave a great sigh, enjoying the scent of tea leaves once more. 

Chet gave a gasp at her own gift, nimble fingers unwrapping one of the treats with ease. The taste of cinnamon drew a happy moan from the goddess’ mouth, senses alight with the warm flavor. Of all her vices, sweets-- and more particularly, anything of the cinnamon variety, was just something she could not pass up. A bright, cheery grin lit up her features as she wrapped the candies back into their container, wrappingthe pretty golden ribbon around it once again. 

MUSIC: 

☽║☾ Anubis’ range of music interests is eclectic at best. Though he is of course partial to songs in Arabic, he’s down to listen to anything. Whether it be classical to synthwave, odds are, if Anubis has been exposed to the genre, he has a song or two in his collection. He prefers music that is easy to listen to or has a catchy beat; he often uses such music while writing his novels, hence his want for something that while not distracting, will keep him awake and alert as he writes. Overall, he finds the music produced by humans to be quite stimulating and it is one of the first things that made him fall in love with humanity, coincidentally enough.
