1. Forehead
āYouāve done much.ā His hands rested lightly on her shoulders, words so honest-- so honest it was almost hard to believe.Ā āBut you are only one woman, my friend. All these burdens cannot be expected to be shouldered by you alone, though you may think them yours and only yours to bear.ā
He knew so little of her, in actuality. What she had done. What had been done to her. Still. While he knew their situations were centuries and miles apart, Solaire was so very well aware that no warrior walked without worries. Ones heād be glad to share, to ease, if only by little.
The knight brushed aside Samusā hair to press his chapped lips to her forehead, a light exhale playing across her skin.Ā āPlease. Care for yourself, Samus. Do not let yourself waste away to these things.ā

19.Ā Stomach
Jack was softer than he looked.
Not that that thought was exactly appropriate at the moment-- what with the fact that Solaire was busying his hands with stitching up a gash in the manās side. A shallow thing, really, but the knight had insisted it be sown shut lest it was torn open further yet.
ā... That should do well enough.ā He murmured, half to himself, as he tied off the fine thread. The urge that came over him was strange, to say the least, and still. Still. He indulged in it, leaning over just enough to press his lips against a spot just above the wound, a stray scar from something-or-another.
... With how red his face went, one mightāve thought Solaire was the one to have just been kissed.Ā āAh- I. Iām sorry, that was far too bold--ā The words came out muffled, his mouth half-covered by his hand.Ā āPlease, forget that happened.ā

in times of need;
Oh man.
This guy was way too composed for Adachiās liking.
āSirā¦? Heh,ā The detective mumbled to himself, smiling a little to Solaireās mannerisms. The thought of being called that pleased him ever so slightly.
āHow about you accompany me on my duties for a few days? Iām sure some community hours would grant you a good enough pardon,ā He suggested, wondering just how amusing it would be to put this fool to work. Though, in the back of his mind, it wouldnāt be so bad to have some company other than these zombie assholes.
āSo, whaddya sayā¦ā He paused, trying his absolute best not to bust out laughing.
āPartner?ā
... Was. Was that it? Such a simple request- one heād gladly have agreed to, imprisoned or not, when heād expected the manās terms to be something much steeper.
Solaire blinked slowly; once, twice. It took him but a moment for his expression to smoothly slide back into the comfortable joy he so often wore on his features, hands clasped together.Ā āThat would be no trouble at all! Why, I dare say Iād even enjoy being of some help.ā A chuckle slipped out along with the words.Ā āI say yes, partner.ā
While another mightāve found the odd smile on Adachiās lips unnerving, or even insulting, heād not be one to assume the worst of a man whoād done naught but show him kindness so far. The knight wasnāt blind, of course, he knew not all smiles were genuine. He knew people... well, mocked him. Perhaps they were right to do so! Still, he kept his cheery demeanor, eyes positively twinkling with the smile on his face.Ā āWhat sort of duties am I to be expecting? Simple patrol? Combat? Perhaps something more mundane.ā

It never gets old
in times of need;
Ah. So he is another persona user.
Adachi shouldāve figured, by his human-like appearance, but the armor sort of threw him off.
āOh, forgive me, at first you seemed like one of these demons running around,ā The detective smiled, walking up closer to the bars of Solaireās cell. His fingers gripped around one of the steel bars, then leaning in for a closer look of his detainee.
āMy name? My name is Tohru Adachi, detective. Well, I was a detective, now I just work with this zombie police task force⦠At least, for now,ā Adachi introduced himself, taking another swig of his coffee. So he seems to think this is all a misunderstanding huh? The man claims it was in good intent⦠But the smart thing to do would be to just let him stay the night, as was procedure.
Unlessā¦
āSo.. I take it youāre a knight of some sort, am I right? Instead of letting you rot in this cell, I could let you out if you agree to some⦠terms,ā He could easily transfer the holding cell into community hours. Community hours, however, that would be well spent helping Adachi.
āI... suppose one cannot be too careful.ā Still, he had to wonder. Did he come off as a demonic thing, some being out to harm rather than help? There were uses but-- but his intentions had never been to frighten allies. Solaireās face re-settles into an easy smile after a moment of doubt, unwavering even as Adachi drew closer. A bit too close, perhaps.
āYou are right, indeed. Perhaps the only one in these lands, if mine own eyes are to be trusted.ā An odd thing, to come from lands where knighthood was a given and be thrust into this place that seemed devoid of them entirely! His arms folded over one another, an unusually closed off posture for the knight, humming thoughtfully at Adachiās offer. He had little reason to doubt this man-- heād been naught but pleasant, after all.
āAnd what would these terms be, Tohru?ā Perhaps a bit too bold.Ā ā... Apologies- sir Adachi.ā He corrected himself with a sheepish smile, bright as ever even with his mistake pulling at the edges of it.
Whatever they were, he was sure said terms would be far from as despairing a fate as staying in this damned cell for the-gods-knew-how-long.
in times of need;
Oh just who the hell did those zombie buffoons lock up this time? And for what cause?
Whenever those damned fools lock someone up, its for the stupidest reasons. Once, they threw in a Mothman because it scared them, for whatever reason. Theyāre zombies. How the hell is this unit supposed to Ā function if theyāre terrified of Mothmen?!
It was a good thing Adachi was able to pick up on their body language, the zombiesā moans and grunts were starting to sound more like yesās and noās the more he worked with them. He couldnāt really explain why, but they seemed to form some kind of attachment to the ex-cop when he joined their force, almost similar to that of the shadows back in the Midnight Channel - but he was probably just imagining things to the point of reminiscence.
āPipe down, Mister, Iāll take a look at your report in a secondā¦ā Adachi responded to the oddly-dressed detainee, ignoring his plea for assistance. What was this guy from the middle ages? There has been weirder stuff, but this was still pretty odd. One of the zombies handed him their shabbily scrawled report, which was still a pain in the ass to read.
āHuh⦠Vandalism? Says here you⦠wrote odd, disturbing figures on the floor of the lodge,ā Oh great. Some asshole who thought doodling dicks everywhere was hilarious. Could anyone act like a mature adult nowadays?
āSir⦠Can you explain yourself? Why were you drawing disturbing images all over the lodge?ā Adachi set the report down and picked up his coffee, taking a small sip as he leaned over the desk in front of the strange manās cell. He squinted tiredly over his coffee mug.
āWhatās your name, Mister?ā
Solaire pursed his lips, eyebrows furrowing in an all-too-honest expression, the luxury of wearing a helmet most days he ventured among people had made him... careless about guarding his emotions, letting them show as clear as day on his face. He felt oddly like a child being scolded, unaware that what heād done was wrong-
Because how could it be wrong! The knight bore naught but good intentions with what heād done. Did they think heād intended to invade, rather than assist? Still, that was hardly something worthy of... āDisturbing... Ah!ā His eyebrows shot up at the realization.Ā āI believe they may have... misinterpreted my summoning sign.ā He trailed off, one hand at his chin to tap a finger against his lips.Ā āAre they not customary for this world?ā
āThey are for those in need in worlds similar to our own. They call upon whomever have made them, you see.ā How strange a thought. That something so intrinsic to him could be misunderstood so easily, even thought to have malicious intentions!
Never the less, it was no reason not to retain some semblance of manners towards this man that-- he was fairly sure-- was trying to help him straighten out this misunderstanding. An easy smile spread over his lips,Ā āI am Solaire of Astora, ser. Called here for what I must presume is the same purpose as you.ā
āMay I ask yours, as well? An informal title does not sit right on the tongue for long.ā
in times of need;
@thecabbageprince
Quite a predicament, wasnāt it? Heād barely even settled in, the past few days spent getting his bearings and making himself acquainted with his surroundings as best he could-- no small feat when there were so many things that he still could not understand, both their purpose and how exactly they functioned. And yet he already found himself imprisoned for no reason at all!
... At least, he assumed this was a cell of some sort. The bars were familiar enough, though the furnishings were much less sparse than the last prison heād been unfortunate enough to see the inside of. The knight cradled one of his medalsĀ ātween his hands, a nervous fiddling he couldnāt quite seem to stop, hard as he tried. It felt strange to be as bare as he was; no helmet, no shield, no sword. They could hardly demand of him to strip down to his unmentionables so, thankfully, the seemingly-undead fellows whoād dragged him here had let him retain his chain mail and boots at the very least.
Still! Still. It was hardly fair! Their mumblings and groans had fallen just short of being understandable to Solaire, and so he was left without even the hint of an explanation why he was stuck in this (all things considered not very) horrible place. Heād spoken up before, several times in fact, but heād received nothing but cold shoulders and more unintelligible groaning.
The knight weighed his options. Breaking out was one of them, of course, but this town was hardly large enough to allow him to escape from the lawās long arm. He could simply wait, and find out just what was in store for him, which surely couldnāt be that bad-- But, ah, a glimmer of hope! A face unlike the rest, beige skin rather than rotted green, a fellow who looked rather alive in fact. Solaire positively perked up, halting his fumbling for a moment.
āSer?ā He angled his head just so, positively staring at the suit-clad man through the bars.Ā āIt pains me to request assistance when Iāve little to offer in way of compensation, but might you be able to free me from this cage? Believe me, Iāve done no deed that is deserving of this.ā
Solaire being fascinated by a flashlight, like full on moth mode, trying to push it through his damn eye slits

sparkles and dust;
@fracturedresilience
āPardon me, serā how in the world did you do that?ā Solaireās voice is as awfully chipper as always, calm and yet with an easy happiness radiating from every word he spoke. The ser in question was a somewhat peculiarly dressed fellowā to the knight, at leastā whose hands seemed to light up and positively glow with some form of strange power.
The knight himself had seen no trace of his own miracles remaining, hard as he prayed to call upon the spears, they simply would not appear. As if his faith had wavered! Preposterous, frankly. āI had believed all sorceries and miracles to fizzle to naught more but sparkles and dust!āĀ
Getting a pack of cigarettes had been, so far, the best damn thing to happen since Jack had signed that contract. Well, second best thing; the best thing to happen to him now was getting to enjoy them. The wrapper peeled away, one cigarette flipped over after some consideration, another brought to his lips as he pocketed the rest.
The feeling of burns crawling across his hand came with a familiar pain, one that didnāt bring a wince or flinch due to how often he had felt it. With a bit of friction, a flame flickered between his thumb and finger, giving some warmth and light, and giving the end of the cigarette a hot glow. A whisper of smoke drifted from the lit end. More smoke was pulled into his lungs with an inhale, bringing with it a dry burn and heat that helped to dull the edges of his nervesā¦
Someone was there. He hadnāt heard them approachātoo caught up in having a damn smokeādidnāt even register what they had said. To busy waiting for a lead pipe to the cranium, or the burn of a bullet, or anything else heād come to expect from splicers. The best he could do was pull his arms up in defense while smoke sputtered from his lips. Didnāt even notice the cigarette fall into the snow at his feet, kicked aside as he stepped away and facedā
a knight?
āā¦What?ā
Occasionally foolish as Solaire may have been, it was quite clear that his sudden jolly outburst had startled the man. Badly, in fact, if the way he covered his face with his arms was anything to go by. As if heād expect to be struck, the poor man. Solaire held up his hands in a gesture of good will, made it quite clear to the man that he was both unarmed and without even a trace of ill intent!
⦠Well, perhaps that first one wasnāt entirely true, the sword hanging at his waist pressing against his thigh as he shifted.
āAh.ā Not the most eloquent response. ā⦠I mustāve startled you, but- I assure you, there is no ill intent on my part.ā Slowly, he lowered his hands to gesture towards Jackās raised ones with a kind smileā one hidden by the knightās steel helmetā and a calmer tone to his words. āWould it be terribly selfish of me to ask you to, well, do that again? Your magic.ā He requested with a slight flourish, fingers moving to mimic what the other man had done.
Solaire was by no means a master of sorceries or pyromancies; the study of them frowned upon by those of other faiths, while he himself simply deemed them unnecessary for his own goals. Still, the at-first-glance likeness of them to miracles was undeniable, and they drew their power from the same place in men. So one had to wonder. What was the difference between the miracles he utilized, and the powers this man posessed?
