✶ shepherd to the stars ✶

“You seem lost, my friend.”   

It is a single light. A lantern bobbing in the grip of a slender hand and dark robes. The light flickers flame like and entrancing, bringing clarity to its keeper. Elidibus watches the light several moments too long before he lets his gaze follow its trace along their mask. The whole of their features go to shadow at the edges, fraying and swallowed as surely as the rest of the room, but they are familiar, still. He knows them. 

“Aze–” They put a finger to his lips, as if speaking their name would shatter something ephemeral in this moment. 

“What are you doing here?” Elidibus asks instead. 

“An interesting question, but first perhaps you will indulge me. Where is ‘here’?” They hold the lantern up. Its light is dim yet Elidibus needs shield his eyes against it in this dark before they pull it back. Their voice is steady; he can see the curl of their lips as they ask again.

“Where are you, Elidibus?”
