It’s June 1st. Which means it’s officially pride month. It took me quite a while, well 27 years of my life to completely come to terms with the fact that I was gay. All the way up through college I was in this weird limbo of being in denial about it, but I also knew at the same time. I tried everything I could to convince myself that I was straight. Threw myself into a few short relationships with guys that ended pretty much as soon as they began. It wasn’t until after I graduated from college and started focusing on myself, physically and mentally that I started to grow more comfortable with who I was. And then in 2016 I became confident enough with who I was that I could admit it to myself that I was gay. And I felt comfortable enough with my sexuality but I felt like I didn’t need to say anything to anyone because I just assumed people already suspected or knew about it. So I never felt a need to say it out loud. Then 2017 rolled around and it really just hit me in an instant one evening and I knew that I was okay. I was ready. And it was my time. It came with no warning, I just felt a need to say it. And so I said it out loud. In 2017 I officially came out to everyone. And it was one of the most liberating experiences of my entire life. A weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I finally felt 100% me. My name is Jess, and I am very proud of who I am. And very gay 🏳️‍🌈😊
