Akio didn't rush her as she slowly pulled away, nor did he make any attempt to force her to look at him while she wiped at her eyes. He simply stood there, a quiet, unyielding anchor in the room, watching her attempt to compose herself.
When she mentioned destroying his shirt, the faint, dry curve returned to his lips. "I certainly can," he murmured smoothly, casting a brief, indifferent glance down at the damp tear stains darkening the fabric over his chest. "Though I doubt tears are enough to ruin a silk blend."
Her small pleaāfor him not to laugh because sheād look 'ugly'āwas met with complete silence. No mockery, no light teasing. As she finally sat up and kept her head bowed, Akio reached into his inner jacket pocket, withdrawing a clean, folded white handkerchief.
Instead of handing it to her, he stepped just a fraction closer, kneeling on one knee beside the edge of the bed so he was sitting slightly lower than her.
"I don't laugh at people who have survived what you have," Akio said softly, his deep voice remarkably gentle despite its usual cool edge. He extended his hand, lightly placing the soft cloth into her palm. "And there is nothing 'ugly' about feeling relief after a lifetime of carrying a weight alone."
He waited patiently as she asked the question that truly mattered: What do I even do after all this? What is there for me to do?
Akio rested his hands loosely over his knee, his dark eyes fixed intently on her face, completely unbothered by her red, tear-stained eyes.
"First," Akio replied calmly, "you breathe. You rest, and you let your body realize that it no longer needs to be in survival mode."
He tilted his head slightly, his expression shifting into something quietly calculating, yet protective.
"Second... you rebuild. The Fallon family may have marked you, but they no longer own your future. You decide what you wantāa new identity, a quiet life somewhere far from here, or the means to stand on your own two feet." He paused, letting the weight of his words settle between them. "I can provide the resources, the security, and the cover. But the direction? That belongs entirely to you, Rosalea. So... what is it that you truly want?"
