The recent Vogue Korea article about grandmas and their beauty and hope has filled my heart so much!! So I decided to try illustrating it! All reference credit goes to Hyunwoo Min, the photographer of this beautiful series. Felt so so inspired by his photos. Comment if youād like to see more of my interpretations of the photo series!

im so tired
i made a complaint about my uni and my mum is telling me that i should take it further etc go to the media etc (the way they treated me was gross) but i ... am just tired. i dont want to go thru that. i just want to rest. ive been going fast paced, been busy for the past two months strait. i just want to rest.Ā
I always get so fucking mad when I remember that itās actually a 16-year-old Algerian girl who influenced BOTH Picasso and Matisse. and. No one gives a ratās ass about her work which was very focused on women and nature. History -or people dare I say- didnāt bother to remember her name because she was a young Algerian woman and no one cares about Maghrebi/Arab women. unlike P*casso & M*tisse who both became legends, almost gods both during their lives and after their deaths, no one knows her.
Her name was Baya Mahieddine.
i hope that more people know about her now, especially seeing as OP literally linked to an article about a Baya Mahieddine exhibition in 2018.
It is remarkable that she had such a strong practise and had great influence at 16. Despite various disruptions that caused her to stop painting, she returned to her practise from the 60s until the end of her life.
It was within her work that Baya found freedom. The world she painted, after all, is one where women assert their individuality and are free from the men who attempt to brand them with labels, keep them inside the home, or hold them back in any way. āIf I change my paintings, I will no longer be Baya,ā the artist said in 1991, after her husband died and sheād returned to painting. āWhen I paint, I am happy and I am in another world.ā
More on Mahieddineās workĀ here.

Calls for Justice for Auroraās Violinist Elijah McClain Grow
Elijah McClain was a kind and gentle 23 year old who worked as a massage therapist in Aurora, CO. On his lunch breaks from work, Elijah would go to the animal shelters and play violin for the animals because he thought that they were lonely in their cages and thought that the music would calm them.Ā
In August 2019, Elijah went to the gas station to buy some iced tea for himself and his cousins. Because he suffered from anemia he would often wear a ski/ runner mask over his face to stay warm. On his way home, the Aurora Police department were called to reports of a āsuspicious man.āĀ
(Warning: for violent description)Ā Elijah was apprehended by a group of three cops, despite committing NO crime and being unarmed. A struggle occurred, and he was held in a very dangerous carotid hold around his neck while he cried for help, cried out that he couldnāt breathe, cried out that he was nonviolent and couldnāt even kill a fly, and was repeatedly throwing up. Elijah weighed a mere 140 pounds. You can hear on the audio footage, an officer instructing another to move their body camera out of view.
While 3 Aurora Police Dept officers violently restrained him they called Aurora Fire Dept, who injected him with ketamine (a powerful drug used to tranquilize horses or in surgeries by a trained anesthesiologistĀ and illegal to be administeredĀ by anyone else)Ā even though he was already cuffed and calm.
He went into cardiac arrest , slipped into a coma, and his family was advised to take him off life support 6 days later.
The cops were transferred to another department but never receivedĀ charges.Ā

Weāve heard a ton about Minneapolis, but letās not forget about Breonna Taylorās home and their protestors. She was from Louisville, Kentucky. Theyāve had 13 (as of now) nights of protests, which from what we know about cops, means a lot of arrested protestors.
Help them out by donating to the Louisville Community Bail Fund!
