The Vagabond skull does a pretty good job of silencing all but the loudest things Ryan says, an unintentional but useful side-effect. While frustrating at first, when he was still learning exactly how loud he needed to be to communicate, the incidental silence did wonders for his image.
As though a skull wearing mercenary wasnât bad enough, there is something jarringly inhuman about the man who mostly forgoes speaking in favour of a grunt or a slow shake of his head. Â Everyone knows not to cross the Vagabond, rumours of his work spreading far and wide, rampant intrigue surrounding the man who has become a nightmare. Cold, stoic, and loyal to none, the silent harbinger of death and devastation, a phantom. The Reaper. Â
The reputation served Ryan well for years, the truth behind his image a carefully guarded secret, right up until the moment he joined the FAHC. Because the thing about crews is that they tend to want to be able to communicate at any time throughout a mission, which results in everyone wearing ear pieces and mics. A great idea in theory, except that over the years Ryan has kind of gotten used to trusting the mask to filter his comments. Has grown complacent, secure in the knowledge that any little remarks he makes to himself are far too quiet to be heard through the skull. But not, it turns out, too quiet be to picked up by the delicate little microphone.
The FAHC is one group that has never let an opportunity for all out mockery pass them by, and it turns out that all the reputation and intimidation in the world arenât enough to counteract following up a violent murder with dorky little phrases like âuh ohâ and âYikes!â
