A TTS test oneshot AU: ruddiger dies, Ellie tries to cheer Varian up
Ruddiger had just died earlier that day and he was really upset. When Ellie came over Varian asked her if he could just be left alone for awhile, Ellie said of course. But in her own oblivious Ellie way she unknowingly poured salt in the wound because she asked "where's Ruddiger? He's always right beside you" and Varian just started to cry again. Ellie understood after that because she had cried a lot after the death of her rabbit Snowy, and it took Ellie forever to know her usual constant smile again. But seeing Varian upset destroyed her a little inside because she knew what it was like to lose a friend, especially one you've had for an especially prolonged period of time. Ellie left him alone and she sighed as she left his lab, she didn't even know what to say, not about this because she wasn't on the comfort giving end for something like this before. Ellie went home and after she sat down her brothers noticed a change in her attitude, Edward asked her what was wrong and Ellie said that Varian had just lost his own pet raccoon. Months earlier it had been Snowy and Varian was the one spending weeks to try and cheer her up, months even before she started smiling constantly again.
Ellie said that she didn't even know what to say to him about this, she had never been on the giving end of the stick for comfort in grief before. It was an unfamiliar concept to her, and Ellie hadn't actually ever known how to comfort somebody in the way they'd need. So Ellie went off to her room and spent hours just staring at the ceiling from her bed, the dull ache of Snowy's empty handmade enclosure was still a sore spot but Ellie made it a point to try and help. The next morning she grabbed her drawing book and started coloring in the last page, she was just finished by the time she looked up and saw Varian's house just up ahead. Quirin said hi as she approached and Ellie said hi back, she then asked if Varian was around and Quirin said that he still wanted to be alone. Ellie said "oh..." And sighed, then she asked Varian's dad if he could pass him the drawing book and he said yes. Ellie wanted so badly to just run in there and hug Varian until he could barely breathe but she had to respect his wishes too, it stung really deep to know that Varian was so upset like this. She had seen him upset when his father was encased in amber, she had seen him after his redemption ark, she had even seen him frustrated when he couldn't figure out an alchemy formula, but never upset because he lost a pet. Ellie actually cried for him after she was alone in her room, she didn't sleep that night, the next day after breakfast she immediately rushed over to Varian's house. She didn't even bother knocking, she just rushed to the one place in the house where she knew Varian would be, and that one place was his alchemy lab. Varian was startled out of his reading when the door flung open but Ellie had her arms around him faster than he could realize she was even there. She held him tight, and she looked at him the same way she had when he was there for her months earlier.
"Varian you aren't alone in this, remember when I lost Snowy and I never even wanted to leave my room? You were there afterwards and tried to make me smile again afterwards... You knew what Snowy meant to me and you stopped st nothing until I felt better, you were there for me...so let me be there for you too..."
After a moment he hugged her back too, he was still a little teary eyed but after what Ellie said he started realizing that they were going through very similar things. Ellie didn't know exactly what to do or say for comfort besides hugs, so she just sat there and hugged him for awhile, just as she had when she still cried for her own pet at night. He asked her about why she gave him the sketchbook of drawings and she told him to look inside, it was months worth of drawings of him and his raccoon in actual moments in the lab and in other places. The very last picture was bittersweet because it strongly resembled the very first one, the first picture was Varian as a little boy and ruddiger on Varian's shoulders, the last one was Varian at his current age with ruddiger in the same spot. The only real difference between the pictures is that Varian and Ruddiger were both older than they were in the first picture, and Varian suddenly understood what she was drawing all those years, she had been capturing their memories of Ruddiger through her own hobby. Drawing beautiful pictures in super nice detail. Varian thanked her after pulling away and she just said "your welcome" with a soft smile before hugging him again. Varian did eventually realize that he wasn't alone, Ellie had told him so, but he was just glad that she at least tried despite knowing she wasn't usually the one giving out comfort. Then Ellie in standard Ellie fashion took the goggles from right across his head head and put them on her own. This earned a giggle from Varian before he took them back from her, Ellie said that if he still wanted to be alone that she would go. Varian said he did still want to be alone, but he didn't shoo her off right away, he asked her to stay for awhile before she left him alone. Ellie gave the biggest smile before saying that she would stay, and also told him that he couldn't keep her away no matter what, she said it as a joke of course, and Varian gave her a slight laugh before they let go of the hug. As they sat down to read a book together she reminded him that he wasn't alone in this, not with words, but with a simple grasping of his hand as they read.
A TTS oneshot AU: Snowy's origins
It was only hours prior when her adoptive dad found her, Ellie was just a fresh newborn baby put in the forest and no parent had been around, so her human father adopted her. His three sons were 18 by now but baby Ellie needed a family so he brought her back home, when he walked through the door with the infant he asked the boys to warm up some water and grab a washcloth. Ellie still needed to be washed up because he didn't know how long she had been out there before he found her, Edgar, Ellis, and Edward came back with the water and washcloth. Once Ellie was cleaned up her father went back out to find a few baby things, it was obvious upon first sight that Ellie wasn't human. Not because she had albinism, and not because of her sharp fangs, but because not even people with albinism had purple hair. Purple eyes were very rare but those were caused by a lack of melanin, the boys realized soon enough that this little newborn was going to be their baby sister. Edward went out to the gardens in the back yard to gather some vegetables for the nights stew, when he came back in he didn't have a basket of vegetables, but rather a tiny pink little thing that was some sort of animal. Edgar asked him what it was and Edward said that he had no clue, attempts at feeding it were a little clumsy, but after finding some cotton Edward tucked the tiny pink thing beside the newborn Ellie's head. Nobody could explain what happened next, infact there was no name for it, but as if there was a destined bond between the two beings Ellie rolled over onto her side and put her arm beside the pink blob. And the tiny pink blob responded by cuddling up against newborn Ellie's cheek.
Soon enough their dad Edwin returned and asked Ellis to assemble the crib and Edward to get the vegetables for a stew, Edgar told him that Edward had found a tiny little pink blob in the garden. He also mentioned that they had no idea what it was supposed to be, so their dad said they'd just have to raise it and find out. Once the crib was assembled Edwin tried to carry Ellie in to put her in the crib but the further away from the little blob she got the louder she cried. In the end Edwin was forced to make a miniature animal nest out of the cotton and put it in a box, Ellie's crying ceased instantly. Edwin knew without even looking up her parents names who they were, and he wondered how they were supposed to feed a half demon half vampire baby. She could eat normal food once she grew older but it donned on them soon enough that she would need blood to drink every now and then, certain vampires went into feral mode if they didn't feed on blood every now and then. The stew was cooked and they all ate, they heard Ellie stirring from her crib and Edwin walked in to pick her up, Ellie's tiny eyes were open and tears of blood were streaming down. He plucked the tiny blobs nest from the box and put it beside Ellie, he wiped her face and her crying stopped.
After two weeks passed the tiny blob was slowly taking form into a recognizable animal, it was an albino bunny rabbit but it had a mark thought impossible for an albino. She had a snowflake shaped mark on her back and it was big enough to be noticeable no matter which angle you looked at it, and the mark wasn't a very light Greg or even silver, but rather pitch black. Every time Ellie would start to cry the baby bunny would run over to her side and cuddle up close to her face and the crying would instantly stop. The three brothers and their father instantly decided to keep the baby bunny rabbit for as long as she lived because the rabbit was already bonded. And separating a bonded animal was not a very good thing to do. One more week later when Ellie was three weeks old she sat upright for the first time on her own, vampires did mature faster than human babies did for their infancy. Ellie was three weeks old and watching the early snowfall of the season with her dad, she was amazed and Snowy hopped over to share the space too. It was then that Ellie said her first word.
"Snowy..."
They were all proud of her saying her first word, but it was directed at the tiny ball of fluff right on Ellie's lap. Ellie snuggled the baby bunny and Snowy snuggled her back, from the day of the adoption and on Ellie would have a lifelong best friend.
New sketch: Ellie & Varian's first two grandkids!
Their names are Xavier and Xalia, they both have a touch of albinism but not like Ellie, where Ellie only has the albino skin Xalia has the full package so to speak. Xavier also has extremely pale skin but not snow white and his hair is also white like albinism and his eyes are red like albinism. He is 4 and Xalia is 2, they also love the visits to their grandma and grandpa's house because Ellie can keep up with them, Sometimes Varian's age didn't let him do it as easily as Ellie could. They are the two kids of Wendell, I will draw the other grandkids on my iPad!
A one-shot frozen AU: Lonely castle
Lydia was the only child of the king and queen and she was gifted child, not in the traditional sense of being extremely talented, but in the sense that she had a magical gift, the powers of ice and snow. She had a whole castle at her disposal, tons of toys, and magical powers, what more could a girl her age want?
When her parents told her they were going to be going on a trip for two weeks and that she would have to stay here Lydia didn't mind. At first her seven year old brain couldn't grasp the meaning, she just understood that she would see them after two weeks.
Not knowing that after today she would never see them again.
Little Lydia said goodbye and that she would see them in two weeks, and after they left she got super bored. She didn't ask where they were going, just assumed that it was royal business, she was just glad to not be queen. Day one of being alone showed Lydia entertaining herself with her powers, playing with her toys, and reading books in the library. Days two through five showed her waiting for her parents to get back by aimlessly wandering the halls, it was on one of those days after that that the horrible news had come...
Her parents ship went down at sea and they died, even worse their bodies were never found...
Black's failed experiment Chapter 11: The Ending
After everyone ate it was back to cleaning up what had happened, and it was quite messy. The next day everyone worked together to clean up the rainbow fluids which took less time than they thought it would. What took awhile was getting the rainbow colored stain out of the windows and outer walls, that took some serious scrubbing. While the adults were doing that everyone's kids were at the daycare that was set up on Polus, and while Purple was away getting snacks for the children Zendaya stayed behind and read stories to the kids on the colored mat. But Yellow and Blue's mix colored children didn't care for a story, they were at the window watching the adults. Amara, the one with more blue over yellow and green, said "why do the adults never let us help with cleanup?" And Amira, the one with more yellow than blue and green, said "don't you remember? We hate cleaning up". Samar, the one who took more green over blue and yellow, kept reading a calculus book and answered without even looking up. "Also because kids make more messes than they clean". Fair point, honestly, Samar wasn't exactly wrong. Marilyn sat not far away holding a textured doll and Michael was using a textured book, meanwhile the octuplets were asleep, they might be super intelligent babies but they still need naps like any other baby would. Zendaya came over after giving the other children coloring pages and asked the children what was wrong, and Amara and Amira said that they wanted to be out there with their parents. Zendaya said that they'd get to be with their parents at the end of the day and Amara said that they wanted to go with their parents right now, Zendaya responded by telling them to go play because before they knew it the time would fly by. It was actually true, because when you lose track of time it doesn't even feel like all that time has passed. The triplets ran off to play and Samar grabbed the number and alphabet blocks and started placing them in equations form while Amara and Amira questioned why she doesn't like kidly items, Samar shot back with "just because I'm smart doesn't mean I don't like toys".
As the day went by the adults finished cleaning up the aftermath of the experiments mess and when the day has ended they each got picked up by their parents. Black embraced all of her children at once and nearly fell backwards, they asked her if they could all go play outside in the snow and she actually said yes. They didn't grasp the dangerous truth of why she said no before but they ran outside screaming and laughing. Not before she stopped them and made them put their coats and shoes on. The kids were enjoying a snowball fight and when White came out to check on them their kids decided that it would be a lovely idea to turn him into a snowman. It didn't take long because all twelve kids worked to cover him with snow while standing up, and Black captured a picture on her cellphone. The kids turned her into a standing snowman too but she didn't mind, she just watched her kids play and be kids. They played themselves tired and after Black and White shook off the snow they took their kids to bed, but afterwards they didn't head to bed themselves. Instead they went back outside and looked at the stars, knowing that anything could be accomplished with the help of others.

Black's failed experiment Chapter 10: Aftermath clean-up
It had been a couple of weeks since she cured her own unintentional disaster, and it still hung heavy over her that she couldn't save Aqua and Sunset too. She recalled Indigo's apology sometime ago and her mind kept wondering, she looked around and the rainbow fluids were all over the outside. The inside was only partially impacted because the doors were thick metal and the infected couldn't breach, but a couple of windows had the rainbow stuff all over them. After she grabbed a cloth she started wiping off all of the windows, admittedly she still felt guilty about how things went down. After all her only other friend in the scientific community died because she wasn't prepared enough for the infected to not catch her by surprise. She was cleaning off all of the windows that had rainbow fluids on them when Indigo came along, he apologized to her for the way he acted towards her and she said that it was alright. Black and Indigo started cleaning things up together and he asked what her true intentions were behind her experiment, because all White said was that they were good, and she told him it was supposed to be a cure for depression and suicidal thoughts. Indigo said that was an admirable thing and Black just said that it should've worked, but Indigo pointed out how science can sometimes be unpredictable. Black said that she should've paid closer attention to her experiment and its calculations, Indigo made no argument because he was starting to run out of those. He asked how the orphans were and Black said "they're not orphans, but they're doing alright" and she went back to scrubbing the rainbow fluids. Indigo Jr came running with a tangled slinkie and shoved it at her dad, then she just stood there throwing snow, Black asked how he managed everyday with a nonverbal kid. Indigo just looked at her for a second and said "its not easy even with a regular kid, but the thing that means the most is when they understand your efforts..." And this time Black glanced at Indigo Jr. The kid had a simple mind yet complex at the same time, she only desired basic kid things yet she spoke in her own language without words. It was certainly different from her own kids, that was for sure. Sometimes it was hard being a parent but it was rewarding where kids loved you unconditionally. After spending a whole afternoon cleaning she and Indigo went inside to eat and as always she sat beside her family. All twelve kids sat together and exchanged food and Things went back to nornal, well...
For now anyway.
Black's failed experiment Chapter 9: Glimpse into the future
(This one takes place mostly in Black's head, her hopes for the future)
Black had fallen asleep by the window, her dream was looking super real, she knew ten years hadn't flown by that fast, that it was just a dream. But she still remained asleep because she wanted to know what tonights dream would be, so she started walking around in her dream and forgot that it was even a dream. She saw Marilyn hanging around with some twelve year old guy who was constantly asking her questions, mostly wondering how she could understand him since Marilyn was blind-mute-deaf since birth like her brother. Michael was teaching the ten year old octuplets to navigate without sight (a skill they lacked because they weren't born blind) and then she saw Oasis and Callie sitting by the window. A habit they must've picked up from watching her over the years. She asked them what they were waiting for and Callie said that they were waiting for their mothers but then her face changed. "They aren't coming back are they?..." Black sighed and had to finally admit the truth.
"No they aren't, they died that same I tucked you two into bed for the first time...I wanted to tell you two sooner but every time I tried it just didn't feel like it was going to be right...I adopted you two because your mothers had no extended family to look after you and I wasn't about to let you two go into the system..."
Callie and Oasis just stared at her, they wondered so many things, like why she decided to adopt them to avoid them going in the system. They also wondered about how she could possibly love a couple of kids that weren't hers. She told them to step away from the window and just go play for awhile, what else was she supposed to say? Especially after something like that. Things were tense as she walked back into the all too familiar lab, she was starting to experiment with different reactions and White walked in, he was a little grey in the hair but otherwise looked alright for 47, she still looked like she was 20 even at 38. He asked her if she was thinking of telling Oasis and Callie any time soon and Black responded that she already had, he then asked her how they reacted and she said "better than I expected for them to" and she sighed. But then another thought started to plague her mind, White was human, she was not, what would happen when one day she inevitably outlived him?
He noticed the look on her face and said "something else go wrong?" And she said "no, but...I'll outlive you..." And he just held her tight. It wasn't just the fact that she would one day outlive him but also the fact that she was considering asking him to let her turn him into a vampire. The only catch was that she didn't know how to turn somebody, and even if she did the result was not completely guaranteed...
She almost wanted to ask him but decided against it, if she was going to outlive him then it would be a life fuller than she could've ever imagined. She may find someone long after he's gone or maybe she wouldn't, either way White always held a special place in her heart. He was the one who accepted her for who she was, he was the one who encouraged her to sign up for science lessons. He was the person who was there for her at her worst, and she realized that nobody could be just like White, infact he was a one of a kind for her, nobody could do what he did in her eyes. She couldn't have been happier with the way her life turned out, even if her life at first turned out to be awful. So when she stood up from her lab she started spending time with her kids and enjoying everything, Marilyn was still hanging out with that curious twelve year old boy and Michael this time was just walking around. Meanwhile the octuplets seemed to be having an adventure of their own fighting each other with foam swords and wooden shields.
She thought about which kinds of careers her kids might have, from Marilyn and Michael being productive members of the ship, to Xavier being a soldier. She pictured this as she looked at each kid, she saw Michael and Marilyn working among the ship and herself another ten years later congratulating them. She looked at Xavier and pictured him in combat to defend the ship if he needed to, then she pictured herself congratulating him. She glanced at Xalia and her career path look uncertain, but as she saw Xalia tinkering with an old toy she saw Xalia being a future engineer and Xalia thanking her for always being there. She also glanced at Victor and Victoria ordering their dolls around and pictured them as future captains when White couldn't lead the ship anymore. Julia, Julien, and Julius were fashioning things to fling pillows at each other out of their toys and elastics so she pictured them as future experts on weapons and weapon maintenance. She looked at Arianna and she couldn't determine what the girl might be, but after the girl ran over to the kitchen and started mashing up vegetables she started to picture her as a chef. Then she saw Oasis and Callie, Oasis had his own ideas on what he wanted and she saw him regulating tasks, so she saw him as a second in command one day. But then she pictured Callie's future career, the girl had always talked about how she wouldn't make it as a scientist and she saw the girl putting a bunch of mints in cola to see a reaction. The pop fizzed up and soaked her head to toe but she pictured Callie as a future scientist, not just walking in her mothers shoes but revolutionizing research as they knew it. Black went to her own living quarters and looked around, then she was suddenly awoken in the real world by her children climbing on her telling her that it was time to eat. She got up and headed over to the cafeteria, and as she looked at all twelve of her children she knew that no matter the future they'd be alright.
Black's failed experiment Chapter 8: Memories...
After two weeks had passed since everything went down Black was still trying to get used to it, she kept remembering everything she and Cobalt blue did together. She remembered when they first met, when they partnered up for their first experiment together, and even when the other one was expecting. They were so close that if they had've had similar colors everyone would think the two of them were sisters. And in a way they were, blood doesn't make a family, love does, and they loved each other like sisters. As the infected crew members reunited with everybody she couldn't help but wonder again how she would've done things differently, sure it wasn't her fault but she had no clue what the future held. When she walked outside visions of her and Cobalt blue sitting beside the electrical appeared in front of her eyes, she saw them debating the viability of how plants of any kind could survive in the cold weather. As she went inside of the O2 room she saw her and Cobalt blue meeting for the first time and having an awkward conversation. Everywhere she went visions of her and Cobalt blue flooded her mind, including beside the lava pit, they were still rookie scientists, Cobalt blue had asked Black how hot the lava was and Black had responded with the right answer. She couldn't get Aqua out of her head either, the woman might've been deaf but that didn't matter, she was a valuable crew member despite her inability to hear. Both she and Cobalt blue left their little ones behind, and Black was finding it increasingly difficult to come up with excuses to tell their kids. She found herself in the storage room, it was near everything else but still separate at the same time, she sat down and the two kids wandered in. Callie and Oasis, they asked Black again where their mommies were and this time Black avoided the subject entirely. She told them to sign the papers she layed out in front of them and they asked why, Black said that it was just to make sure they could be looked after until their moms returned. The two three year olds signed and asked again where their mothers were, and Black thought for a second before saying "they're...otherwise occupied, they wanted to make sure this doesn't spread to other planets" and the children bought it. But Black still didn't know if she was doing the right thing, because she saw how the two each raised their kids differently and she didn't want to throw their children off either. She remembered seeing Aqua for the first time, and knew how attached to her son that she was, she even taught the boy sign language because Aqua herself had been deaf since birth. She remembered Cobalt Blue raising her daughter to try different paths, and then she looked at her own parenting style, she raised her kids differently because they were half human and half shapeshifter like she is. Raising two full humans would be a challenge on its own, but considering she married a human herself maybe it wouldn't be that difficult. Black was empathetic yes but figuring out how to raise those two fairly would be a challenge among raising her own kids.
Black looked at the two kids and sighed before she picked them up, human kids were filled with questions like any other child and they asked anything from if two plus two equaled four to if vampires had the same life as humans. She definitely should've thought about what she was signing up for. Black walked inside and she actually had to ask herself "what do human children eat?" because imposters could eat things that would be fatal to humans because imposters weren't human at all. Black asked Purple what he fed his niece growing up and Purple said that she ate a lot of things but mentioned Zendaya's preference for waffles strawberries. She made waffles and the kids ate them, but then they asked how long it would be before their mothers came back, it killed her inside to lie to them but she had to because they were too little to understand the truth. She told them that their parents would be gone for a few years yet and that she would look after them until then, but she also recalled her past experience raising her first kids Marilyn and Michael.
She knew they weren't her kids by blood but she still treated Callie and Oasis like her own.
This wasn't evident in just the way she tucked them into bed at night, but it was also evident in the way that she was feeding them, she never denied them snacks and she certainly didn't deny them hugs. But she also gave them time outs whenever they misbehaved, a week after they were adopted officially everything had already been over for three weeks meaning a month had passed. She knew the kids had overlapping birthdays (back to back) and that they were in close proximity to her own children's birthdays. Her children's birthdays were a week apart and Oasis's birthday was two days after Marilyn and Michael's. Callie's birthday was the day after so hers was three days after the twins, one day after Oasis, and four days before the octuplets own birthday. There would be a lot to figure out and she was still working through her grief, because when she saw Cobalt Blue she was telling Black that she was doing everything right. But when Black rubbed her eyes she didn't see her friend anymore, but rather Aqua signing 'your doing alright' Black rubbed her eyes again and this time she didn't see anyone. She was getting sleepy, in fact the last few weeks were burning her out, so she dropped her twelve children off at the daycare and went back to her living quarters.
Black just wanted to take a quick nap so she huddled up in a blanket beside the window. The same blanket she had slept with since her childhood, it was faded by now, it was 26 years old while she was 28, but she still cherished the blanket.
She fell asleep by the window with a slight smile, and she knew everything was going to be fine, it just needed time.
Black's failed experiment Chapter 7: Fatality...
Both girls were wondering where Sunset and Aqua were, they had to be somewhere, because all of the infected slowed down near the heat of the lava pit. At least, that's what they thought. That's what they've been doing to sedate the infected so they wouldn't get caught off guard. But this day would prove to be the worst and best at the same time, because when Black looked around a corner to see if she could spot Sunset and Aqua she didn't. Though after hearing Cobalt blue screaming Black rushed over, she saw that her friend was running towards the lava pit because all of the other infected slowed whenever they went near it, but this wouldn't be accurate. Not for Sunset and Aqua who evolved beyond stage three...
Everyone ran outside and saw both girls trying to fight off the two infected and Indigo reacted on pure instinct, he shot a sedative dart at the infected Aquas head, but she wasn't sedated. They were immune to sedatives, but before Cobalt Blue could get the chance to inject Aqua and Sunset they pushed her closer to the lava pit. When Cobalt blue did manage to inject Sunset the cure wasn't reacting at all, and what happened next was too fast for anyone to prevent...
Cobalt blue followed by the infected Sunset and Aqua fell into the lava pit.
Everyone watched in horror, Black included, she just watched her closest friend die and for what? She shouldn't have walked away, but how could Black have possibly known about this? She felt so guilty that she just stood there and her tears (which were blood like her fathers) started to fall. She thought of Oasis and Callie, both kids were orphans now with no parents to look after them, the three year olds had no idea that their parents just died. White eventually hugged her and it snapped her out of her daze, she hugged him back and started to cry even harder. Indigo too knew the pain of loss, perhaps too late but he decided to apologize. He said "Black for what its worth, I'm sorry" and she didn't even respond. Somehow the silence was louder than anything she could've ever said.
After everyone finally went inside they were talking about what life would be like now, until Indigo asked the big question.
"Who's going to look after their kids?"
Everybody remained silent, nobody knew. Not until Black said "I will" and everyone looked at her, then she continued by saying "I knew enough about them to know they had no extended family to look after the kids...". Nobody objected, Indigo did want to voice his doubt's but now was not the time so he kept his mouth shut. They set up memorials in Aqua's room and Cobalt Blue's one person shuttle, meanwhile Black had just printed out adoption papers. Life was going to be very different now without her best friend around, especially since she didn't even know what she wanted for her child.
But some part of Black knew deep down that Cobalt blue wouldn't want her child to be an orphan too.
Black's failed experiment Chapter 6: discovery
Indigo hadn't been aware of that, not yet anyway, that Black's smile and laugh was rarely ever seen or heard, and he could only assume that it was back when she was still suicidal. He started feeling a little guilty but he remained firm in his opinion that imposters were evil villains. But he also knew that calling Black a biological freak might just get his nose broken again. The men sat together in silence before White wandered off to find his wife, Black was in the lab taking the black blood out of her veins just to create more cures for the infected. He told her not to draw too much just for a cure and she seemed to ignore this until she started looking a little dizzy. He took the sample needle out of her hand when she tried to draw an eighth sample and told her to take it easy because she already looked weak from the big samples of blood she removed from her own veins. But that wasn't the only reason she was dizzy. White asked her when the last time she fed was, she didn't answer, he pressed again and said she couldn't recall, before she could stop him he slit his own arm. He did this on purpose because when she didn't feed and she smelled blood she always fed off of him, in the past when she tried to avoid feeding on blood he would do this so she didn't snap and go feral. Because if an imposter vampire went so long without blood they snapped and went feral to the point of draining several people, but only this time Black was just that caught up with her work. She fed for a few minutes until he was the one that was dizzy and she apologized for taking too much, White brushed it off and said that she needed it and not to worry about it at all. She patched up the slit on his arm and told him to be careful around the ship, everyone was now working together on plans to distribute this cure to all of the infected crewmates.
After awhile of Black being hunched over a microscope Cobalt blue told Black to go relax and that she would take over for awhile. So she picked up her ten kids from the ships temporary daycare center on board which was just the storage room cleared out. Marilyn and Michael just followed along with her steps while the octuplets crawled next to her, Xavier Jr, one of the octuplets stumbled and she picked him up by the scruff of his clothes. He giggled in response to this and clapped his hands against his moms face, the other octuplets mimicked his behavior until she picked them all up the same way. Xalia and Victor clung to her left shoulder while Victoria and Julien clung to her right shoulder, and Julius, Julia, and Arianna clung to her arms. Sometimes she forgot all about her failed experiment backfiring and causing this disaster but then she remembered whenever the octuplets asked her to play outside in the snow. She wanted so badly to say yes, she wanted to let them stay up past their bedtime playing with snow, but she sadly had to say no. That killed her inside because they were just kids...they wanted to play...
After awhile she went back to their living quarters and made them some lunch and wrapped them each in their favorite little blankets. They all snuggled up to her despite her saying that she should probably get back to doing her work. She could never say no to her kids when they wanted cuddles, not not anyway, she cherished these little moments that kept her sane and reminded that she had ten little reasons to keep going. Black did genuinely love her kids, but she couldn't keep them in the dark forever like someone else that may not know yet. But how do you tell your children that the mess you made was almost irreversible? Sure Black created a cure yes but would her kids be able to tell the difference? She wanted to be a good mom but doubt started to creep in like it always had in the past. It was an ugly thing, she used to always have self doubt back when she was still in the spiral of depression and suicidal thoughts.
But now wasn't a good time for doubt, especially not now. She had a cure to work on and kids to watch, but burnout was an even uglier monster considering Indigo's bias against imposters wasn't over yet. She tried to get up once her children were asleep to go off and shift in for Cobalt blue but her kids followed her all the way to the lab, they were clingy by all accounts. She had to work carefully considering her children wouldn't leave her side. But thankfully for her they soon fell asleep in a pile against the wall huddled in their blankets. Once she finished the final calculations for the current dosages of the cure she tested it on the four mechanics she infected, hours later they woke up confused. It worked, now she just needed a way to mass produce it without taking too much blood from herself to the point of falling unconscious with blood loss. She started to think up ideas for how to mass produce it without getting bitten herself, turning it into a firework would require time that they currently did not have. And besides, it had to go into the bloodstream to be effective. Trying to put it in the sedatives may not work properly because of an unbalanced chemical mixture with the sedative being a foreign addition. She certainly couldn't risk going out into the horde of the infecteds even with camouflage because they probably have her scent now from the first time that she was ever bitten. Then she remembered something, the infected were so used to the cold that they slowed down when introduced to heat so suddenly. Slow enough that she could probably inject them all one by one after sedation. It was still the best plan she had by far, and none of the others were going to work. She soon informed Cobalt Blue of this plan and she agreed, but first they had to buff out a few things so it wouldn't go wrong. Such as how much time they would need in between dropping an infected, and how long they would need to allow for dragging each infected person to quarantine. It was a long debate between both girls, like how you could talk to somebody for hours on end and not even realize, they only realized how much time it was going by when White came it to tell them it was suppertime. Cobalt Blue joined Black and her family for supper time and she sat her kids down with food, the scientist in her tracked her children's development while the mother part of her just wanted to hug them constantly. Children were cute to both Black and Cobalt blue, hence their desire to be parents. Cobalt blue asked Black what she would do if she ever lost a friend and Black just said that she'd probably be upset. She didn't see the worry behind her friends eyes...
Cobalt blue knew that Black was super intelligent yes but she was also super emotional whenever kids were almost put in danger. Sure the plan they made was sound but Cobalt blue noticed something that Black didn't, Sunset and Aqua were mutating beyond a stage three. And there was no stage four, Cobalt blue approached this subject with brutal honesty because Black didn't sugarcoat things either. She asked when Cobalt blue noticed this and she responded with "during your infected phase when I was alone in the lab, they were...different..." Nowadays different was a bad thing.
They started debating again and they were cut off a few minutes later when Indigo Jr ran over with her father to sit down for lunch, and he just sighed. Indigo Jr wasn't biased against imposters, partially because she was nonverbal and partially because she didn't understand the truth. That her real mother didn't disappear suddenly, that she died because of a shape shifting imposter. Indigo Jr kept prodding at Blacks teeth and Black responded by gently pushing the kids hand away. But the kid kept at it, Black wasn't so much annoyed as she was worried for the kid to get pricked by the sharp point of her tooth. She told Indigo Jr to back off and surprisingly she did, Indigo still never said anything to Black, things were still tense between them.
After eating and then later putting her kids to bed they helped everyone else put their kids to bed so the adults could stand in and interfere if something went wrong with the plan. It was solid, Black and Cobalt blue would take sedatives and inject them into the infected and then inject the cure. But what Black didn't realize was that Sunset and Aqua wouldn't be able to be saved. Because what Cobalt blue said about her findings during her shift at the lab was that Sunset and Aqua evolved past stage three. Meaning that even if they could be cured it was past that point, but they both agreed that they had to cure everyone as soon as possible. They had enough samples for everyone to have one. But they couldn't afford to make any mistakes. Especially not when the situation was this dire. Black and Cobalt Blue briefed everybody on the plan one last time before both girls suited up in protective gear and went outside. One by one they started sedating and dragging the infected inside to quarantine, it was working, everybody was being cured! But wait...

Black's failed experiment Chapter 5: Black gets bitten...
Black went outside to observe the infected and she first observed from above in bat form, then she decided to observe from a distance by sitting in a tree. She took out binoculars and noticed that the infected were evolving, some of them were denting the doors and others were grabbing things at random. She wanted to get a closer look, if your familiar with that subconscious pull of curiosity then you'll understand why she's not cautious this time. Black got down from the tree and started getting closer to the infected joy monsters subconsciously to observe more, and she did get really close. This was a huge mistake as Black got distracted by her notebook, she ignored the hostile snarling of the joy zombie nearby because they often did that when bumping into something. When Black was writing down her observations that was when she felt the teeth sinking into her forearm...
She shoved the infected Grey off of her and shape shifted to get away by flying, when she got back to her lab she looked at the damage. She was devastated when she saw the bite...infact, she was almost crying.
Black saw that it was already starting to turn rainbow and calculated how much time she would have left, estimated that it was about seven hours because she had no idea how long it took for imposters to turn. That would be around breakfast time, meanwhile while she was in the lab White woke up and noticed that she wasn't there. He had a feeling that he knew where she was and went over to the lab, he knocked and asked her why she was in there so late, and her response was hasty. Black usually couldn't lie but this time she had to, she said "because I'm so close to finding a cure! I just need a few days!" And surprisingly enough White bought it. He was a little suspicious about her shaky tone but she always had a shaky voice for afew different feelings like being scared or nervous and even excited. He brushed it off as her being excited and Black started to desperately research after a half baked job of treating her arm...
She had to find a cure now.
Because her time was limited...
Or so she thought it was...
Because she got so caught up in following her notes to make a cure that she didn't even realize that she burned out and fell asleep...
By the time she woke up it was hours later, past eight hours actually, and she looked at the clock with one thought.
"Was I wrong about the infection time?"
Well she was half right, but also half wrong, she was right in the sense that it took three minutes to eight hours, but she was wrong that she thought she was wrong about the infection timeframe. Black kept thinking about the fact that she should've turned in her sleep, but she didn't, was her biology fighting against it? The answer was yes, because she was half human but she had more of the imposter genetics in her. White Noticed that she was acting off, swiping at her mouth and eyes quite frequently like she was sad or hungry and salivating, he asked her what was wrong and she brushed it off as allergies. But White knew better. He knew that in all the years since they've first met that there have never been allergies on any of her records. Then he recalled what she said about needing a few days because of a potential cure. He pulled her off to the medbay where nobody was around and asked her "alright Black what the actual h#ll is going on?." And refused to let her back out. Her eyes kept scanning for exits before she told him this.
"I think I'm immune..."
White froze. "What?" Black met his eyes and said "yeah, I haven't turned yet and I was bitten before midnight...". White said "but that was eleven hours ago..." And she said "exactly, which is why I have to look into it, my human half is infected but my imposter biology is keeping it at bay." White told her to take all the time she needed in the lab and then she told him to speed dial her only other scientist friend who was currently stationed at Mira HQ. Cobalt Blue, she was a scientist for Mira HQ that specialized in viral infections and diseases, the only difference between her and Black is that Black was the experimenting kind, Cobalt blue was the researching kind. Once the call was made Black just sat in medbay and waited. And waited...and waited. Until finally cobalt blue arrived in her one person space shuttle. The two of them high fived and fist bumped before getting onto the urgent business, black recapped everything and didn't skip over a single detail, and her friend just...stood there. Almost as if she was zoned out when she was just shocked, and she said "if your immune them maybe we could find out which part of your blood is stopping it...".
Black didn't argue, and soon enough both girls were back in the lab. Blood samples were drawn from black, observed, and its effect on the infected blood, then they found which part of her imposter blood stooped the infection...
In shape shifting imposters that were also vampires there is one vein in each of their arms that produces black blood instead of the traditional red. When the girls put the black blood onto a microscope of infected blood they observed its effects, and its been two hours, the infection was slowly vanishing!
But there was one problem, every time they drew too much blood Black seemed to get a little worse. They couldn't mass produce a cure immediately but they could do it one by one, they now had one viable sample to try out on an infected. Black suggested they preserve it until she could capture an infected person and Cobalt Blue pointed out how after a certain stage the infected might not be save-able.
They debated until Black started coughing up rainbow fluids, and it was an alarming amount, Cobalt blue suggested a quarantine for her and Black made no effort to argue because she didn't want to infect anybody on accident. She sterilized her entire person and everything that she was bringing into the quarantine room with herself and then told Cobalt blue to lock the door behind her. The door was then locked and not even ten minutes later Black's fully infected human half took over for a terrifying thirty seconds as she started laughing uncontrollably and coughing up rainbow fluids. After thirty seconds her imposter side took back control and she was normal, but the sight of Cobalt blue terrified but unharmed was enough to reinforce her will to remain in there for awhile. If the infection could temporarily make her lose control completely then she was a walking biohazard...
Cobalt blue with in the middle of writing down notes when her three year old daughter Callie walked in, the girl was an exact copy of her mother. Callie asked Cobalt blue why Black was in the quarantine area and Cobalt blue said that it was for everyone's safety. Little Callie pressed curious little hands against the glass and Black warned the kid to step away before something happened, but Callie didn't listen. She was instead staring at Black like she was a particularly fascinating toy with glitter on it, Black asked the child what was so interesting and Callie said "pointies...". Cobalt blue and Black both raised their eyebrows until Black clued in that the child was staring at her sharp teeth. Black still told the child to step away when she felt her arm throbbing again, because that meant one of two things now, either that she was about to temporarily be infected or that her arm was healing. Being a vampire imposter allowed her body to super heal but her infection from the bite didn't allow it to heal in seconds. There was no telling how long that it would actually take, but when White walked in the quarantine glass was so clear that when White ran in to give her a hug he collided with the glass. This made Black snicker because the glass was that transparent that he did not see it at all, he asked her how she was and Black said that she was alright considering. He asked what that meant and soon he got a glimpse of that, because for five terrifying seconds her human biology took control and she started laughing while rainbow fluid leaked from her eye sockets. "Okay, that's terrifying..." She rolled her eyes and said "yeah I know..." And little Callie saw the laughing fit, she didn't see the potential danger it posed. This would prove to be the worst possible thing later on.
Because later on during the night when Black was awake and checking her bite wound it was only healed by a fraction. And that was when her laughing fit started...Callie had wandered in late at night because she wasn't sleepy and she saw Black in a temporarily infected phase. She hit the release latch and this would prove to be a mistake, but Callie wouldn't understand the fatality behind this choice. Alarms started going off not because Callie released black from containment, but because her clumsy little hands accidentally tore the panelling loose. Mechanics showed up to repair the panelling unaware of how fast they were about to be infected...
Tan, light brown, Olive green, and Sand yellow appeared. They saw the infected Black but in seconds she bit them all so badly that they turned in just over three minutes. Callie got so terrified that she ran out of the lab during the attack and warned her mom, who then sedated the infected and put them in a separate quarantine from Black's. When her imposter DNA took back control she was devastated that she had lost control and bit four people, at this rate everyone was dropping like flies.
With days of rigid scheduling and constant treatment the wound on her arm got better until the bite wound left just a scar. But Black wanted to stay in quarantine for an extra day just to she if she would still be affected by the virus. After she showed no signs of her DNA fighting against itself she went back to her normal life, but she also avoided everyone now. Tan and Light Brown were two of captain Indigo's closest friends, she knew he would be p!ssed off at her. Especially finding out they were infected. When she crossed paths with Indigo in the hallway the coldness was practically radiating off of him, he didn't understand her biology. All he understood was that his friends were dead because the virus temporarily took over. Black wanted to explain it to him but she didn't really feel like being around somebody who could call her a biological freak again. It wasn't that part that bothered her, but rather the fact that he hates imposters regardless of good status. Later that day she did try to explain it to him but he just told her that he didn't want to hear it, meanwhile White was walking by. He stopped to listen and Indigo cut her off right as she was about to try and explain her biology, Indigo was furious about his friends dead and he called her a biological freak because she didn't fully turn. This time White and Indigo both went at it because White was fed up with jerks like Indigo insulting his wife for what she was. Black tried to step in but neither guy let up, not until they were both in medbay with broken noses...
She wanted to laugh at their miserable faces so when Indigo said "take a picture it'll last longer!" Black actually did. She looked at the picture and didn't even make it around the corner of the doorway before she started to laugh, and Indigo rolled his eyes. He asked White if his wife enjoyed other peoples misery and White's response to that was "just shut the f##k up Indigo, everything would be fine if you weren't such an @$$ to imposters!" And both men just stayed silent. Black did return to check in on the guys but mostly to shut Indigo up by reminding him that she was their only shot at getting out of this bad situation alive. They were still glaring daggers at each other but they were not grabbing any weapons to go into a worse fight, not after they broke each others noses because Indigo insulted White's wife again.
Black just grinned when she told the guys to pose because the next picture was going on her Christmas cards. They looked miserable and after she left Indigo asked White why he let Black humiliate him sometimes, and his response left Indigo thinking.
"Because her smile is everything, it used to be so rare and her laugh rarer, so I sometimes embarrassed myself to coax a laugh from her...even if it was only for a little while..."
Black's failed experiment Chapter 4: sudden guilt
After Black had finished eating she tucked her kids into bed earlier than usual, and White noticed that she was feeling guilty after years of trying to help her get better self confidence and stop the unneeded guilt. White asked her after catching her alone what was up this time and she had no choice but to tell him, he could see right through her by now. Black told him about how she was worried about how the other crew would react when they found out that her experiment was the very thing that was slowly killing them. White told her not to worry about it and that they'd figure something out if they did react badly to the news, he knew how bad the guilt of certain things still impacted her.
Try as she might to relax she just couldn't, no matter what she tried, the guilt was keeping her awake despite her best efforts to relax and go to sleep, so she eventually gave up and went to the one place where she could truly feel at peace.
The science lab.
She was up for so long that by the time she realized what time it is White was waiting by the door with her breakfast because she had worked overnight again. She got up and put her notes, experiment, microscope slides, and all away, then she began to eat her breakfast and asked how everyone was doing. White said that everyone was as okay as to be expected considering the situation they were all in, and he asked her if she wanted him to tell the other crew the news for her, she said yes because the thought of having to explain herself to people still twisted her stomach into knots, especially considering that not everybody would react well to the news. That she was the one who caused it, and no matter what she still knew that they would probably be mad.
That entire day the crews were both stuck, nobody knew how to counteract this virus, and they only had one scientist, Black. She was observing the infected and suddenly it started to look like they were changing...not growing super huge immediately changing, but changing like a slow and just as deadly evolution. This wasn't good...
As the crews were both chatting Indigo remembered something, there was one of them missing.
"Where's Black?"
White responded to Indigo by telling him that she was in the lab, and when Indigo said "all day?." White said "yeah because she's working on something in there!" When Indigo asked what was so important that she was working on White recalled Black's response. The one she gave him when he asked her if she wanted him to tell them for her, so he exhaled and said this.
"She's working on a cure for her experiment, it turned everyone into those things outside..."
The room went silent. Black? The bringer of destruction? No way, White's crew knew that she would never deliberately do this, but Indigo and his crew didn't know that. Indigo got quiet and he said "so your telling me your wife caused all of this?." And White said "not intentionally..." Before explaining that she had good intentions by her experiment. He also went further by explaining what it was supposed to be for, helping other with depressive and suicidal thoughts, even that she had tested it out on herself before she started giving it a trial run. Indigo wasn't as understanding as White was, not yet anyway, and that was what changed the atmosphere of the room. So he said something that made White want to punch him.
"So she's a biological freak then? She didn't turn like everyone else."
Both men got in eachothers faces and White said "I'm sorry what did you just say about my wife?." And indigo said "you heard me, she's not even human White! What could you possibly see in her?!".
White was about to punch the guy until his kids walked in and even then it took every single inch of his self control to not knock him flat. He shoved Indigo aside and said "your not worth the energy to hate, @$$hole." And he walked away. Indigo didn't like imposters because they were deadly, normally they ate people and killed crewmates, especially the vampire variety. But Indigo didn't regret his words, not until he saw her come out of the lab to greet her kids and her husband, he noticed White's visible agitation when he hugged his wife. He walked away before saying something he would earn a punch with and walked away.
Meanwhile back in their living quarters Black was sitting down on the couch next to White with her notebook and she asked him what was wrong. He denied anything being wrong and then she turned to him, she said "White your tense, what did Indigo say this time?" And he sighed before recapping everything Indigo said. He mentioned everything from how the meeting went all the way to him calling her a biological freak because she didn't turn from her original experiment. She didn't look the least bit upset and said "White look at this face, see how much I care? Besides he could call me names and get off Scott free, but if he ever insults our kids? Oh you'll have to lock my knives away from me!".
Well at least she wasn't upset, but the guilt started to hit her harder when she was alone again. Every time she looked outside she had to work faster on a cure, and every failed attempt seemed to only speed up the virus evolution process...
Black was starting to wonder if she was missing a core component for the cure because no matter what she seemed to be only accelerating the infecteds evolutionary process. So she went out of her lab in search of an infected to draw a sample from, she spotted Sunset, the first victim, and perhaps Black should've camouflaged herself before going out there, because what happened next looked like a death sentence...
When she got the needle into Sunset's arm the infected Sunset turned around and tried to crush Black in a hug, and when she said no and pushed Sunset off of her that was when more infected came up behind her. She was near the seismic stabilizer on the left and there was no vent hole, so she shape shifted into a bunny and ran past, then she shape shifted back to normal and tried again to get a sample from the first infected. But as two grabbed onto her she froze up, it was only for a second but one second was all they needed, Black pulled away but not soon enough, because an infected Aqua and Banana both grazed her arm with their nails. She hadn't noticed it yet but she was grazed, and some of the fluid seeped into her open wound...
She couldn't bring herself to kill the infected crewmates because if she could save all of them then she would try. She used the vampiric speed from her fathers side and drew the blood from an infected sunset and got a sample of the rainbow fluids, after that she ran back inside. Upon getting to her lab she was so exhausted that she didn't even know that she was grazed, it was only when she tripped on the floor in a puddle of her own blood that she noticed. She bandanged her left arm and got straight back to her research with studying those samples that she got, had she just stopped the bleeding and stitched the wound shut then she would've noticed part of her veins turning rainbow...
Her arm was starting to hurt from those graze wounds she obtained from the infected but she wasn't aware of what was currently happening within her own body, she just...kept working.
She heard a knock on the lab door and said "White if your here to lecture me on taking it easy I know, but this is important!" But instead of White she heard Indigo's voice. "Can you come to the electrical for a minute?" And she froze, she was trying to avoid the other crew unless she absolutely had to. But regardless she still said yes, so she pulled her labcoat sleeve down across her arm with bandages to cover them and avoid anyone being concerned. She stepped out of her lab and followed Indigo to the electrical and around a corner in the electrical, right there was a mess of complicated wiring.
He'd asked her if she could help him untangle these for regular ship maintenance reasons and then hesitantly agreed to help.
They started untangling the wires and Indigo tried to muster up an apology for his words but swallowing bias was easier said than done, and he knew that White more than likely told her what he said. They remained in silence for a moment before she said "sorry..." Out of the blue, she was aware that White decided to tell everyone during that meeting. Indigo said "look I know it wasn't your fault but I can't forgive you, not right away." And she just sighed, she knew he was probably mad about it. After the electrical wires were fixed Black retreated to her own lab yet again, but this time when it approached the night time he didn't let her stay in too late. Once it was 10:00 she and White settled into their bed but she couldn't sleep, she tossed and turned, she tried sleeping upside down, and even some relaxing tea, but despite all of that Black remained restless.
Black decided that a little bit of observation couldn't hurt and she got up to go outside. She put on her labcoat with observation tools seeing as she thought that she would never get caught by the infected.
Boy was she wrong...
