        “Chill out before I Hulk out on you.” 

     “no, actually, she’s fucking not. she’s literally six years older than i am, i don’t see how that makes her the baby.” he’s closing the space between them, the smell of alcohol heavy on his breath. he’ll regret this in the morning, but right now his only concern is getting elena to back the hell of and let him sleep. vocal inflection rises steadily until he’s practically yelling at her: “WHO CARES what i do. she’s an adult. i’m an adult. we can both make our own decisions, you fucking cabrona.” 

                     “What is wrong with both of you!”

    ‘  are you… okay?  ’

              “I’m fine. Seriously. I just feel bad for her.” 

     “Lo necesitoooo, Nina.”  That’s not even the episode they’re watching  ( krusty krab pizza, anyone? ) but he’s already grinning like an idiot. It’s not entirely representative of his personality, but life with his sisters has taught him to make quick changes for their benefit. “C’mon, you looove this.”

       “Shut up.” The tears have already stopped. See, this is why she loves her siblings-- they’re not afraid to make the extra effort for her. She’ll do the same for them, of course. Wouldn’t even have to think twice about it. “I’m just glad we missed the opening credits. I don’t need to listen to you sing.” 

                 gee, johanna, you’re really selling your point.

                “Okay, I just mean-- I’m sorry, let me try that again.” 

He plops down next to her  ( ever so careful not to make contact )  and picks up the remote, flipping through a few channels before finally deciding. “Let’s watch Bob Esponja.”

       “Bob Esponja? What am I, six?” She’s still crying, but at least now she’s got that judgmental frown thing going for her as well. She knows he likes it though, so hopefully he’ll be laughing hard enough that it rubs off on her. “Fine. No talking along with it, though. That’s so--” Pause for sniffles. “Weird.”

“no sabes nada !!” he’s definitely not pouting, huffing quietly as he waits for her to stop dying. “i swear, if i wasn’t trying to get right with the lord… “

       “Get right with the lord? After the story you just told me? Yeah, right.” She’s only just managed to stop laughing, but it’s obvious she’s almost ready to start up again. “Remind me not to ask how your week’s been next time, I’m not sure I’ll survive it.” 

“he almost CAME in my eye, how the fuck is that funny?” this is totally the LAST time he divulges his sexual experiences. “i’m fuckin’ traumatized,” 

       “Please!!! Stop, oh my god!!!” She does this weird screech thing, then actually laughs so hard she stops making any kind of noise. This is awful. “That’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard!”

        “Yeah, like--” Oh, god. Nina doesn’t need to see the look on her face to know how she’s feeling. Luckily for her, none of it is strong enough to really take its toll on her. Yet. There’s no saying that she won’t start angry yelling in about five seconds’ time. Or maybe crying. She does that a lot. “You give some major vibes. I’m not wording this very well, I’m sorry. --Are you okay?”
