I THINK SOMEONE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THIS but it is Very Interesting to see the people Mob knows and cares about grow from being isolated to connected. Especially to mob himself.
Mob Psycho 100 is all about community, connection, and depending on each other, as much as it is realizing you are in charge of your own life. What makes the isolation of each character so interesting to me is not just how Mob teaches them to grow from it but also how he learns from it. The end goal of everyone's arcs is the same: the true self, and connection.
With Ritsu, for example, his character arc culminates in him relearning how to be brothers with Mob and how to reach out to him, and gets resolved when Ritsu is finally unafraid of Shigeo. With Teru, he has to learn to be authentic and depend on others (it goes more nuanced for this but for the sake of people reading this I won't go further LMAO). With Dimple, he has to face the fact that he was lonely, and that his quest for godhood was, in actuality, a bid for connection. And with Reigen, it meant having to come clean, and finally letting people into his life.
From all of these and from even more characters, like BIC, like Tome and the Telepathy Club, like Mezato, like Tsubomi, like the ghost family, like the yokai hunter, like the Scars, like Mogami, Shigeo /learns/. He learns what it means to be truly yourself, the good, the bad, and everything in between. He learns how your actions influence who you are at your core, he learns how your environment can change you, and most importantly, he learns how connections can make all the difference.
In the end, it was always going to be about Mob accepting who he is, as Shigeo. Never about getting the girl, never about becoming the greatest psychic in the world. It was always going to be Shigeo coming to terms with the simple fact that, if he wants to live authentically, if he wants to live a life of acceptance, of goodness, of /fullness/, he has to embrace who he is even at his worst.
Mob Psycho, in a world becoming even more and more divided and different and /diverse/, reminds us that, at the end of the day, what we all want, what we all /work towards/, is the same. /We are the same./
We are the protagonists of our own life. We need people.
