They silently each took a seat on one of the outdoor recliners and laid back, letting the late afternoon New England sun cast its warm glow over their skin. The air was a little sticky, as it usually got in the summer, and Will loved it. Mack stripped off the hoodie he’d been wearing on the plane and tossed it in the grass. Rigney plopped on top of it, laying alongside the boys. Will handed the second Diet Coke to Mack, who promptly popped it open and took a sip. Will couldn’t help but stare when a drop of the brown liquid got caught on Mack’s bottom lip and dribbled down to his chin, where he promptly wiped it with the back of his hand before it fell on his white t-shirt. Will averted his gaze. He laid back on the recliner and stared up at the sky. This was going to be a long week. A good week, a test of Will’s own discipline. He could handle it. He could control himself.
