For years, artists have been using GIFs in mind blowing ways to bring their visions to life. Native American GIF artist George Redhawk aka DarkAngel0ne, who is blind, uses them to “see” art. Through the use of visual aids and photo manipulation software designed for the visually impaired, Redhawk creates eerily captivating versions of his favorite paintings and photographs. He doesn’t call himself an “artist” but tell that to the more than seven million people who have viewed his work online.

Bestiary Cometh!
Solo exhibition at the Benaki museum in Athens, opening on June 3, part of the legendary Athens Photo Festival. And to make a long story short, the opening of Bestiary will be the first full bodied show premiere after Dark Peculiar Toys in Berlin, 2006. Yes, there have been many things in between, but there is something about a series taking so long to be done, editioned and exhibited that you forget how it started. Only this time it was simple - just the urge to make monsters that could remain timelessly relevant. And what better place to find such beast prototypes than Greek mythology as nothing surpasses Greece in its ability to birth monsters. Monsters and heroes.

Thirty years ago the UK miners’ strike of 1984–85 ended. On 3 March 1985, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) decided by 98 votes to 91 to end the dispute and call for an organised return to work.
One of the abiding images of the year-long strike was Guardian photographer Don McPhee’s picture of a picketing miner facing up to an officer, taken at Orgreave cokeworks, South Yorkshire, in June 1984. Photo: Don McPhee

“Certainly, you can see a birthday coming from many miles away, and it should not be a shock or a surprise when it happens.”
Happy birthday, David Cronenberg. Read his introduction to a new translation of The Metamorphosis.
Cezanne produced precarious little worlds that almost, almost, almost lose their balance, but somehow hold themselves together, creating tension, beauty and danger all at once.
