The Gauntlet

    All good things must come to an end.   Through the past we have posted and written, typed and edited as The Aerie Press. We at SHIELD University believe in new beginnings even for our trusty school paper and pr accounts. We are thrilled to begin this new chapter, and hope to live up to all of the moments of the past and the press that came with it. We hope that in our transition to The Gauntlet you will all stay avid and faithful readers.

Tuesday night explosions were detonated in several buildings across campus as students and staff celebrated the holiday. After attending the annual Madison County Fair, students and staff all dressed in retro clothes attended a decades dance before a fireworks show in honor of the nation’s birthday.

Among the targeted buildings were the Ballroom where the dance was being held. Festivities had been in full swing for over an hour when first explosion went off. Followed by two more in the coming minutes, compromising the structure of the building and collapsing on those inside.

Few made it out despite injuries but the rest remained inside as rubble from the floors above barricaded the door. Sources say the falling debris also trapped multiple persons inside as well as outside the building.

Those who could sprung into action immediately. Ushering people towards exits, freeing those trapped, and guiding those who were too stunned to move. Amidst the chaos, people were helping each other and banding together.

Coinciding with the explosions in the ballroom, blasts shook the professor housing. Most of the rooms were vacant as the residents were out celebrating. Those inside were subjected to the same three explosions and reports say a flash of green that has yet to be identified light up the third floor. 

Debris was cleared from the ballroom. Allowing crews access to the injured and expediting the process. All buildings affected in the attacks are closed off. “Under no circumstances are any persons allowed to try and gain access to these buildings,” comes the official word from SHIELD.

Again, those involved rose to the challenge and brought out the injured, escorting all involved to nearby SHIELD agents for medical attention. Exact numbers on the injured are still undetermined as explosions went off in five other buildings which appear to have been empty at the time. SHIELD’s first priority is to take care of those injured in the attacks.

At press time two professor’s remain unaccounted for. The Rec Center has been set up as temporary housing for those who’s homes were affected. Shield and residents alike are looking into the source of this incident. Captain America had this to say to those responsible.

The devastation of the recent bombing strike within SHILED University shook the campus to its core. There’s been a great deal of destruction and death and many demands for answers and justice. However, in the face off all this darkness there shines an unsung hero of the ground. A quite literal golden beacon.

Joshua Foley (18, Sigma Kappa, pictured) proved to be an invaluable force to combat the destruction that tragic night. As a golden-coloured healing mutant he took charge of the injured, saving the lives of many students who otherwise would have succumbed to their wounds before medical help arrived.

One such student had this to say:

“I was so terrified! I knew I was dying, and then he was there, a shining ball of gold. And I just knew everything was going to be alright.”

Several others have come forward with similar stories, wanting the exploits of this extraordinary young man told. While there’s no official number, it’s been claimed he healed hundreds of victims in the course of that night.

One bystander claims Mr. Foley saved the life of resident teacher Peter Quill who appeared to have been dead mid-way through treatment. “It was a miracle how he managed to do it. A damn miracle!” We were told.

As if all that weren’t enough, witnesses report that as the SHILED Med-Team hit the scene the golden hero began issuing orders and overseeing the healing efforts throughout the campus, continuing to do in the days after within the campus med-bay.

This reporter was lucky enough to get into the med-bay and grab a few words from the hero of the attack.

“I- I just did what anyone else in my position would have done… Now please excuse me, I have patients to treat.”

                                                                                         July 5, 2017    The campus makes its recovery today after bombs shook many of the buildings last night. At various times during the seven o’clock hour explosions were reported in several buildings including the Ballroom and professor housing. Students and staff alike were inside the ballroom as they celebrated the Fourth of July with a decades dance.

All persons on campus are asked to remain where they are, provided the location is safe, and allow crews to work. Those wishing to offer help are asked to speak with an agent before they do anything.

Shield University’s top priority now is the safety of all involved. As information is made available we will get it to you. Until such time, take care of yourselves.
